...High Security Space. No Concord. EVE in all its size was totally 0.0 with pockets of low-sec. The empires still exist, npc corporations still exist, as do their stations. There simply isnt any concord and the space is rated as 0.0/Low.
Stop and just imagine it.
Note; I don't actually want this(not that fussed either way really). This isnt a discussion about the pros and cons of such an idea. Im asking, if high security suddenly dissapeared, what would it be like?
I imagine after the initial rush to kill certain targets and struggle to adapt it would eventually settle down. I believe that for this to be a viable system, newbie corps would have to be protected(by a less caring concord say) and that after a certain amount of time/ship class reached players pick an NPC/Player corp to join, that actually reflects what they want to do.
Now with the current number of players(though I expect a good portion might leave) this 0.0 universe might need to be expanded. It would definatly be a harsher universe but people would adapt, imagine emptiness, nomadic corps, alliances staking claim to large sections of territory. Really quite difficult to explain but it would certainly be a less boring place to live. The key with this I think is the size of the universe, people can be squashed in high sec, but in a 0.0 universe, being squashed is not where you want to be, vast tracks of emptiness would be needed so people could survive. Mobile outposts perhaps, a uber-rorqual that can refine? Research Towers that can be cloaked. Empire's at War and empire navy patrols traveling through systems(more beligerent ofc).
Anyways my imagination leaves a lot to be desired. I say again though, this isnt about actually applying this. This is about "what if" this was EVE. A cold, dark universe indeed. ----

originally, back in the "long long ago", i recall hearing rumors that there was no CONCORD. and it was chaos.
without some kind of order, progress is impossible. of course, huge alliances would emerge to take the place of the peace keepers, except it would all be run by players... and therefore nobody could be neutral and do anything worthwhile. so it would actually become quite dull for the mining and mission plebs, since it would not likely be safe to travel outside your controlled region, and everyone would be part of the same few alliances. if anything, a new "empire" mechanic would be needed to facilitate such a large association of alliances.
and of course the fleet battles would be epic. there would be true faction warfare indeed. imagine if BoB were to take over and control all of Caldari/Amarr space, and Goonswarm owned all of Gallente/Minmatar space, for example.
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |
It would be fun until the point when people started running out of larger ships, because people could not mine in relatively peace to create the ships, the modules and the other needed stuff to keep the PvPers happy.
Also after the good doctor at CCP, a lot of the players in EVE are empire bound.50 % or so never leaves empire. So we would soon see a huge drop of players. Maybe bringing CCP back to the time when they had echonomic troubles.
To be honest, I think the PvPers needs those "wuzzies" just as much as the "Wuzzies" needs the PvPers. Symbiosis 4TW I guess..
I see what you mean.
I included the ideas that the universe would be much more massive, making it really quite empty in certain unattractive areas. That players, after leaving the protected newbie corp could join a NPC corp of their choice, including Navies, where further progression in wars also includes the supplying of navy ships and equpipment for the war.
I fully expect it would be hard to adapt, but at the end of the day it would happen. However, it may need a gigantic universe and more subscripers than eve currently has to make it like a realistic cold universe. ----
Would have been a good idea at the birth of eve, but now.. useless idea that I dread.
First alliance to take key current empire systems would and could crash the market. No place for small corp's it's either join an alliance or leave the game. Roaming gangs get bigger due to alliance size rising. Server still lags and people still cry about it even if 90% of space is empty. Alliances become Empires, would have there own internal markets, very few outside deals. eve would become 2-4 massive power blocks, effectly they could steamroll anything smaller then another powerblock.
New players... yeah not going to happen, not everyone wants to look at the loadinggrid screen.
Nice idea tho..
Probably due to the max skills, have any ship/mod and that there wasnt a powerful enough server available for it at the time.
Ok, if we get more specific. Massive universe, all 0.0 Large subscriber base to draw from.
Will industry be able to function enough to supply the demand. I expect that a few well organised mega-alliances will form their own industrial backbone.
If the tools are available then roaming industrial fleets may become viable.
This 'idea' would probably apply easier to a fictional, more realistic universe than trying to imagine it on the current game >.< ----
i suggest the OP actually looks at the stupidity of the human race, add in no real phyicial concequences for acts and you have your answer, only the elite survive, so the top 1% take everything over and eve goes pop.
Human stupidity and greed is essentially self defeating, in a computer game it is multiplied to the extreme. ...... continues overleaf. |
Stop and just imagine it.
Now imagine if your maximum security prisons filled with homicidal bullies, rapists, cold blooded murderers or worse in whatever country you happen to live in let everyone out and gave them military grade weapons and transportation. On the way out they were all told it was a dog eat dog world now and they could do as they wished with no worries about the law or any consequence past surviving.
Thats what would happen if your let the low/no sec denizens into high sec with no concord or faction police protection. --------------------- Q: WTF! Why?! A: Because I can. --------------------- |
