Hi.
Trinity 1.1 will amongst other things address the stability of the Linux client. I would like to gather your post-patch Linux experience in this thread.
I would like to know if you crash more often now, if you are crashing less often or if you are no longer crashing at all. In short, did this patch improve the stability of your client? What other issues got resolved? What is still, in your opinion, the number one issue? Did you discover any new issues?

Edited by: Nei Gong on 13/03/2008 04:06:40 good things:
overall performance seems better. client havent crashed while getting player info (yet). havent seen any of those rainbow textures (yet).
sad things:
no 1184x864 resolution. missing images on some icons - in my case undock, ships and items. the yellow capacitor thingy dissapears, i noticed it when requesting player info, but not every time. misterious black corners of a box in space. percentage bars on fitting screen are white rectangles. undocking progress bar is messed. channels arent blinking. some ships/parts of ships look so dark, they are like pure black. log off button logs of, 2 black windows remain, but the game never starts again.
thats what i noticed so far, have some screenshots too. is it ok to post links to them here?

Loads faster however, textures are not rendering correctly for me. Ships and my char portrait do not render properly. They are very dark almost all black. Have screenshots if you want.

Same issues as above, messed up icons, channels not blinking, progress bars missing, everything is pixelated like I was trying to run an 800x600 game at high resolutions

Did we get the wrong or incomplete patch? My test server client is running on eve-000082 engine, but there were NO cedega "updates" when applying the patch. Is that why things look so jacked up? (My test server experience as of 2 days ago had NONE of these issues.)

The linux client needs the 82 engine and updates. That is happening now. Restart client and try again folks. WE were too fast for em'.

The eve-000082 engine just installed for me when I restarted eve. I had to pull up the options and Clear all cache files, then restart eve. Once I did that the graphic issues disappeared.

Hi folks,
The engine update got overlooked somewhere along the lines, but it has now been made live as well. If you restart the client you should get the updated 000082 engine. If you still have graphics problems, you'll likely need to clear your cache.

That worked. I thought something was buggered up there when the engine didn't update, but the client did. Thanks booner and casquade(via irc) for the fast response.

Number one issue... directx? That darned black second window cedega spawns and the focus and window managing issues it creates?
Right now, it's me wondering whether I should post things here or file reports.

Here is how you clear your cache:
Delete all files and folder in: .cedega/EVE\ Online/c_drive/Documents\ and\ Settings/Local\ Settings/Application\ Data/CCP/EVE/
1. Open .Cedega 2. Open EVE Online 3. Open c_drive 4. Open Documents and Settings 5. Open Local Settings 6. Open Application Data 7. Open CCP 8. Open EVE 9. Delete the folders called "Cache" "Settings" and "c_programfiles_ccp_eve_tranquility" 10. Restart the client

That should work too, yes. But knowing what is behind the button might be interesting for some people :)

I tried that first and it cleared up the issues with ship shadows but left the icons messed up and still wouldn't go full screen. I thought I was doing something wrong so that's when I asked how to clear the cache.
Hand deleting the files fixed the remaining issues.

I did all of this and that seemed to the do the trick, but one thing is worth mentioning...
The first time I started it after removing all the cache/setting files, it started the intro movie. I hit escape after it started playing and logged in. There was still a ton of graphics corruption. After that I just closed the client and opened it back up, and everything was fine. I had noticed in the past that for some reason if you go through the movie or character creation instead of going directly into the game it was doing that, so I just tried it.
It would seem that there are still some pretty serious bugs, but at least it's working again. I didn't play long enough to see if it still randomly crashes or not. I will be sure to post more if it does.
Slightly OT, has the website's bug reporting system been fixed so it can accept gzipped text files in addition to plain text and images?

Fleet window issues. First, this is NOT occurring with either XP or the wine premium client, so this is a specific "official" client problem. As this is patch day, I'll post this here per request. If needed I will additionally bug report this. The screenshots:
Wine Premium client fleet view
CCP Client Pre fleet view
CCP Client POST fleet view
The shots are annotated with the issue with text and pointer to problem.

I was having same graphical problems as everyone else but after the cedega engine push and also clearing the cache through the reset screen fixed all the problems I saw immediately after logging in.
Will post again if I see anything else.

It seems a lot better. I played for at least an hour without EVE crashing, and several of the things I was unable to do (without crashing) since trinity was first deployed seem to be okay now. The new graphics look nice, too.
The only things that bug me are the things mentioned here about the overview/selected item windows, fleet windows, and drone windows pushing each other off the screen and popping up over/under each other, and the fact that I have to 'killall wine wineserver' every single time I quit the game (I AM using the 'official' client BTW).
I hope the non-crashing feature sticks around this time :)
Thanks

Logoff button (new one in the escape menu) returns the game to a black screen. My bet without really checking is that sound drivers are already initiated and the client hangs.

Only thing I've noticed that isn't working after clearing cache is that the filler bars like when opening a cargo container do not show percentage full.
The numbers above the filler bar (1000m3/3900m3) are correct but the filler bar is empty.
Here is an example with my Iteron IV's cargohold:

Edited by: Esme Nomarra on 14/03/2008 06:32:16 Seems more stable, and slightly smoother (maybe slightly better FPS?) but unfortunately the problem with the can/cargohold fill progress bars coupled with invisible and inaudible mining beams makes it less playable. :-(
With regard to the can fill progress bar, what I'm seeing appears to be one part of a multi-layered graphic that handles just the reflections from ambient lighting. The actual progress bar itself isn;t visible.
I'd also add that I noticed before that when I was having Black Screen Of Death problems immediately after Trinity was released that there seemed to be a connection with the sound; if I tried starting EVE too soon after I'd just fired up and logged into my PC, there'd be no sound AND I;d get teh BSOD problem. Leaving it 10-15 seconds before starting EVE ensured I got sound and ensured I didnt get teh BSOD problem on startup, at least.
A plea though CCP - what I require most of the UI is that it be functional and as easy to use as possible. Shinyness isn't necessary. And aside from the marvellously simple ship controls graphics the UI generally needs work on making it easier to use, particularly the Corporate stuff.
And speaking of shinyness - my eyesight doesn't handle high levels of contrast well. It'd be nice to have some means of reducing the overall level of contrast in the game, rather than having to muck about with my monitors controls each time I start/close EVE. Also, it beggars belief that they wouldn't have filters capable of blocking or reducing glare in the EVE universe. I'd very much like a 'reduce sun glare' option!
Final note - I have had a problems once since this latest patch with the main overview panel mysteriously expanding over the selected items and drones sub-panels. I had to resize the damned thing several times, the one playing session where that happened.

The game hangs on "Entering game as..." on both Linux and Windows.
