Any news on when we're likely to see a new export?

Hello,
I would like to be added on to the list of "pro new data export".
I really don't care in what format it is coming, as long as I have the correct data.
Cheers

Any specific reason why this is taking so long? If I remember correctly, it only took a couple of days to produce a data export in the previous patches... ________ Invention profit calculator |

Guess again ... anyways, PrismX and I will be working together on delivering this data export to you all, it's just that we want to put in an effort to make this process as transparent as possible. If you read Lingorm's replies you'll get a fairly clear idea that this is not a one or two day task.
Lots has changed behind the scenes and it's needless to say that with a patch coming up, this comes second as to where developing the new features come first. The question I cannot give you an answer to is when, but you'll get the data export and you'll get it fresh.

You mean 'are working together', right?
Originally by: CCP t20 this is not a one or two day task
Hopefully because you are taking the time to automate the process so in future the dump is generated and published to the web as part of the server update process? (yes, I'm an optimistic software engineer. such things do exist.)

Ooo, so we get insight into the process too? Cool. Dev blog on how to write sql exports coming SOON(tm) then?

Fresh? The 1.2 patch was out a week ago. The one before that was 6 weeks ago. Still no dump for either of them. Perhaps you mean the one for Trinity 1.3 will be out on the same day as the patch? |

So why not push out an export in the old fashion for now and then make the polished thingy between now and next time a patch require a new export? ----- http://games.chruker.dk/eve_online ----- Top wishes: - No daily downtime - Faster training on sisi - Speedup IGB table rendering |

The old method of doing the static data was very very manual and not the best.
Prism X and T20 are working on a new methodology for this so it can be generated automatically. They are also looking into what is included so as to make sure that none of the reference tables are excluded.
We are hoping to have the static data ready soon after the Next Expansion with all the new data from that expansion available.

Good good, was just about to ask about that, getting the Trinity export would kind of suck now. -----

PrismX, t20
How is the new database export mechanism shaping up? Now that the release date for the expansion is public, can you say when you expect the data export to be released?
Thanks

Hi,
Doesn't the SQL Server Management Studio come with a export to text file tool?

Even if CCP is using a Windows-based server software, which is probably not the case since Windows doesn't scale very well in large clusters, the data export won't just be some point-and-click procedure. I suppose the databse contains a lot more tables, columns, foreign keys, views and such than necessary for a static data dump, and the database layout will also change betweeen the expansions. As I'm a software developer myself, I know that exporting a particlar set of data from a database into a usable form is not something which can be done by just clicking on "Export".
Next, we should be happy that CCP provides us with these dumps, as they doesn't have to do that. It is a present to the community, so stay calm and wait for the devs to release the next dump.

Afaik they DO use MS SQL Server and that obviously only runs under Windows, too...

I shall say this in a calmly way: YOU'RE NOT THE ONLY SOFTWARE DEVELOPER IN THIS THREAD.
I find it very unlikely that there's only one db deployed. I find it more likely there are several db deployed, probably on each developer pc, and only one (or more) accurately updated to the server's version. That's the one we are all calmly waiting for.
As for scripting a db to a text file it can be done in a click. Problem again is knowing which version to use, and what updates where made to tables, columns, foreign keys, views and such. |
