OK
So if I'm docked (premium graphics) the temp on my graphics card sky rockets to 90+ which seems a touch overboard...
This happens even with the station environment box un-checked... Also note that temp drops under 60 when I'm out in space.
Before the patch my cards temp never went above 60 no matter where I was in eve.
Anyone else noticed this? Anyone know a way to work around it? I really dont want to switch back to classic :(

Station enviroment usualy heats up my card more then in space, try enabling "intervall default" in the advanced graphics settings to put a 60fps cap on your framerate, that will cool it down a _lot_. _

90 c degress is far from high for a Video Card. GPUs are not tightly packed and scrutinized for minimal space as CPU are. So they have internal dissipation of heat much better (at cost of higher production cost). Most video cards can operate pretty well up to 120 c degress. ------------------------------------------------- If brute force doesn't solve your problem... you are not using enough

The inside of stations are heated but outside in space it is a lot colder so your system will run at a lower temperature.

Yeah if its a newer nVidia you're looking at a burnout temp of 140 C. Mine run at 90 regularly.

As everyone else has said, and the guy above me, nVidia cards are rated to run up to 140oC, so you're well within parameters for a GPU. __________________

EVE has been setting my graphics card on fire ever since Trinity, and I'm not even running on the Premium engine. Temperature just rises steadily until the card starts producing "artifacts" and eventually locks up. I have an ATI Radeon X1400 Mobility, and it used to run fine, even when running 2 or 3 accounts, before Trinity. Now just 1 account is needed to give the graphics card trouble. I wonder if anyone else has similar problems?

My biggest problem is that login screen heats up my card more than the game itself. ----------------------

try enabling v-sync ("interval one" in EVE), that will restrict the FPS to 60 and should cool the card down considerably. (since 100+ FPS isn't uncommon docked, especially in classic)
Trinity has been doing that since it was first launched, EVE has very high FPS, and since it now uses the GPU instead of just running of the CPU it will affect the graphicscard a great deal.

Edited by: Mysterlee on 13/03/2008 12:56:57 I've also noticed that this latest patch causes my graphics card to heat up to 90C in stations, it used to sit around 70C before the patch.
I have an nvidia geforce 7900gs.

Thanks have set this for now.
As for the max temp of cards, well I'm no hardware guru. I am not actually sure how far it would go, It was up to 98 when I noticed it and it just seemed so odd to have a 50%+ increase over normal temp that I asked.
I guess its time to check the temp guidelines for my card and keep an eye on it for a few days, haven't had chance to play more than 10 mins or so today.
Thanks for replys :) <3

I had a videocard that used to heat up to around 100, and within a few months my memory died, even with halfdecent case fans.
The videocard may be able to handle it, but it can lead to a heat build up in the case which can damage other components.

Funny how peoplecome up with this after every patch. It`s been like this from day 1 on. Limiting yourself to 60 FPS does help somewhat but doesn`t really solve the issue. That being said any decently cooled system should have no issues at all with the heat.

Not sure, but...If you type your password and click on that button there, that should solve your problem. I even heard that there is a game after it.
Hope it helps

Same here. Fan on my 8800GTX has highest rpm when playing EVE. Not even Crysis makes it that hot. I'll try vsync on.

Not related to the patch, but if I run max shadows while undocked my card resets every 10 seconds. Shadows at low it resets every couple hours (which is still bad if I'm in pvp).
Who would have thought that EVE is the most graphically intense game I own (or maybe just graphically buggy). I play all my other games at max graphics (such as Call of Duty 4) and never have problems.

Yeah they can operate "pretty" well up to 120'c. You don't want to go near there though. I found out my old video card was running at about 116'c. Once I cleaned out the crap that was obstructing flow over my heat sink fins it dropped down to about 80 when running intensive games. It died a few weeks after.

my nvidia card runs around 82-85 normally :) so 90+ means you just dont have good enough ventilation in your computer case ---------------------------------- This is Me, fighting stupidity one post at a time. PS: There are no computer BUGs, there is stuff called "Random Features"
