Do you guys play this game? Do you realize it takes upwards of an hour or two of mindless work to set these up again?
How many times do you guys plan on deleting these?
Stop it.
Thanks.

Are you using /end /LUA:OFF command in your shortcut for eve?

I use 'eve.exe /end /LUA:OFF' option and found that settings were moved form 'eve\cache\Settings' to 'eve\settings' so 'd:\eve\cache\Settings' became 'd:\eve\settings\' just copy files from 'eve\cache\Settings' to 'eve\settings' and most of the things will be fine (like overview)

I dont use the lua option, and my options are still there.
I think people who use lua hit this when they install the patch, and then hit the "run eve now" on the patch is finished installing dialog. This runs EVE WITHOUT the LUA option, which can mess your options up.

Me too. Someone bring in the Mythbusters, as the /end /LUA:OFF is a myth.

Yes, but from what I've read above it doesn't matter.

Remove the LUA arguement from the commandline, and copy / paste your EVE\cache\settings folder to EVE\settings. This will restore old options.

This is a worrying post it does sort of imply that left and right hand don't know what each other are doing.
Just give us a facility to export the settings to a file that can be restored and mailed.

All info about joining testservers is obsolete, and the command line is never explained. TBH, the "Play EVE" shortcut in my startmenu does not have these command line parameters.
Can we have a GM respond if the windows-pos is a bug, or a feature ? :P

I use /end /LUA:OFF and sometimes my settings are gone and sometimes not. With this patch the overview settings are there, but EVERY other setting got reseted.
sound on/off, trails, explosions, language, low sec warning, agression etc. and the most important my market quickbar (besides the quickbar has gotten worse with your *update*) and naturally my BM-folders are gone (again)

It reset my settings too, I've been told that just the folder moved...
Anyway, I reconfigured my overview from scratch so I would fully take advantage of the overview tabs so each can have an overview list and a brackets configuration... My old overview configurations wouldn't have helped too much on this, just because I divided the stuff I had before in the overview in several tabs...
Anyway, it would be cool that for future patches, the people using the lua option doesn't get the settings busted, moved, corrupted or something like that... This command line switch is very useful for people going to sisi, and not to bust the settings with sisi patches, we need to use it on all clients...
So, please, for the next patch, take a look at what happens to clients using this switch. -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

I checked, it has nothing to do with shortcuts.
When you dock/undock, the drone window goes back to righ bottom, when you join a fleet it starts top right, over the overview.
Only when you use default window settings (which suck because many are on top of each other) nothing changes, so don't join fleets, and dont drag drone window to another place. Esp. the drone window f*cks things up, because it pushes the overview window up (I always extend it fully).
Looks like the client presses "reset default window positions" every time you dock.

Yes.. exactly the same here.. i have the overview across the whole right side and its pushed up every time i undock so i cant get to my selected items window anymore cause it is pushed up above the window itself.. and that happens every time i dock/undock/connect...
same with broadcast, fleet and inventory windows.. they mess around too

LUA:OFF was disabled in this patch since people who didn't know what it did used it and this caused issues when clearing cache out. This feature was never officially supported and shouldn't have been used for anything else than testing purposes. If your settings got "deleted" this is why. They are probably still in your client folder. Copy them and paste them into the correct cache folder to solve this issue.

My current setup:
- One client with a RAM disk cache. It only ever runs a single concurrent character (and always the same one)
- One client that I use to run all my other characters, and
- One test server install
I don't think this is absurdly atypical. How do I keep these from overwriting one another's settings without /end /LUA:OFF?

OK, is this actually true? Are you really saying that multiple clients on one machine is now not possible? |

no, he is saying that it works without the switch, as i read somewhere that they changed something with storing settings data, and multiple accounts/servers dont get in the way of each other.
at least mine still work, so no problem.

Exactly. Settings are now stored PER INSTALLATION of Eve. So if you have two folders, eve_classic and eve_premium, and start both, they will use two different folders in documents&settings/lokalwhateverthepathwas/CCP/EVE with a folder for each path. Works well.

Okay, try this.
For some particular reason the location of the settings was changed. Before, they were in CCP/EVE/cache/settings -folder. Now they are in CCP/EVE/settings -folder. Just copy everything and you're ready to go.
CCP, could you please tell the people who compile patches to either:
a) make a note where the settings files will be located post-patch and let us know about this in the patch notes,
or
b) make it so that the patch actually takes backups of our settings, saves them somewhere and then puts them back in the right directory?

Works is not what I would call it, I used LUA because eve from accessing that harddrive as much as possible to keep system performance up while eve is running. ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

Edited by: Stoffl on 17/03/2008 15:17:18 :( Looks like we need to mess up our filesystem with NTFS-junctions to keep Eve's Settings & Cache out of the Windows user-profile.
Edit: just tried it with the ntfslink tool. If combining junctions and hardlinks someone could even move all the cache to a ramdrive and keep the preferences + overview-settings files in a directory on the harddrive....nasty setup though.
