Although the Iteron V looks very nice, it would take me a week to get in a IV, and get about 500 m3 more cargo space than my Badger II - not even enough to fit another GSC. It'd then be another 30+ days to get into a V, which seems like a hell of a lot of training time just for the sake of doubling my cargo capacity. In the meantime I'm still training towards a Covetor and, ultimately, a Hulk, which has already got my skill queue backed up nicely as it is...

Copied from another of my posts
'As for haulers, dont let the basic ship info fool you, the iteron V is the best industrial bar none, and is well worth the time investment. It's strength lies not in its base cargo, but it's 5 low slots for expanders. If we compare the badger mark 2 and an iteron 5 fully skilled and expanded with T2 expanders, it's 13600m3 vs 25270m3, thats a big difference, and you'll really notice it once you add rigs, and can fill a jet can in less than 15 mins mining. Bear in mind tho that a fully expanded itty V is a slow beast, not for afk low sec (but then again neither is a badger)'
If you're really serious you can also fit 3 cargo rigs, bringing it up to over 38000 m3 of space, which is pretty mental.
Also, afaik, if you're gonna put any time into industrials badgers isn't the way to go
It's really a matter of opinion tbh, If you're getting a covetor/hulk i'd seriously consider training for an iteron V afterwards. If you're hauling for yourself the iteron V will more than half your haul time (maxed out it carries nearly a jet can and a half in one go, even with just expanders it nearly takes a whole can) and as I'm sure you'll learn, self hauling for a well skilled hulk is a pain in the ***.

Another thing you need to look at is how fast can you warp in, pick up the can, turn around, then warp out again. Remember bigger isnt alwasy better in all situations... My mammoth has served me well with 5 larg containers in it when doing mining ops with my corp as i can warp in, fill up, and turn around realitivly quickly and warp out again to drop off the load. An iteron V literaly is a flying sausage.. it takes that beast ages to turn around, specialy if your set up for maximum cargo (as your inerta multiplyer will be pittiful.. my mamoth could fly circles around you in the time it'd take you to turn that beast around)
Being in High securty areas mining plag, veld and scordite then biger is almost always better.. but when you start getting into the lower security areas, you need to balance speed with capasity. --------------------------------------------- "Only two great species on this planet take part in massive, organized warfare. Badger 2 with caldari industrial at 4 is better than itty 4,

If you want lots of cargo, and you aren't sure about iterons, then consider Caldari Transports, training time will be similar. Bustard can load about 30.000 m3 (not the best, but still no problem with cans), fit MWD and could survive quite beating. Crane has biggest cargo of all blokade runners, and very nice agility. Charon and Rhea are also biggest in their classes.

You have pretty much 3 options.
1. Stick with the Badger Mk II. Advantages: You don't have to do anything! Plus, the badger can mount some excuse for a shield tank in those 6 midslots so you can tank the random rat spawn that shows up while you're collecting the can. Disadvantages: 3 lowslots means your cargo capacity is quite poor compared to the competition. Even a Tier 1 Bestower with Industrial IV will best you.
2. Go for the Iteron Mk V Advantages: Truly insane hauling ability. The best subcapital hauler, period. Once you have this, it's just a few days to step into an Obelisk as well. You can also use the somewhat superior Iteron Mk IV while you wait. Disadvantage: In the time it takes to get it, you could train Mining Barge V for that Covetor/Hulk.
3. Get a Mammoth Advantages: Second best T1 hauler available. Gets 17.8k space expanded on Industrial IV. Much faster train than the Iteron V. With rigs it can almost fit a full jetcan (27,129m3), if you use even 1 GSC it will fit the whole can. It's also, as the previous poster said, more agile than the competition, especially if you fit it out with Inertia stabs for smaller loads. Disadvantages: It's not the Iteron V, it gets about 25% less cargo space than that beast.
From experience, I can tell you that the difference between an expended Badger II and an expanded Mammoth is night and day when you have a shedload of stuff to haul. Especially once you add rigs to the equation. -------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. Never such a thing as a "last chance". ;) -Rauth |

Hm, I think I'll do absolutely nothing for the time being and continue training for my Covetor :)
I also need to keep half a mind on what I'm training for next - training Gallente industrials will be kind of pointless if I need to go back and train Caldari industrials for the next tier of ships. Ultimately I suppose I need to be looking at transport ships and freighters, and although a lot of the skills seem to be transferrable I'd still need racial industrial ships at 5 for whatever I want to fly...

My rigged occator has 35k cargo and without any kind of tank can take quite a bit of dps. It's also slower than a dump truck

A Hulk with 2x expanded cargo IIs and 3x GCS can haul for itself. its far more efficient than any hauler that cant haul a full jet can in one trip. (even moreso if you put rigs on it... but who's gonna pay 400mil each for cargo opti IIs?)
Of course this is an interim until you can get your Iteron V. I'm just letting the OP know that its far better to grind skills up to the hulk and not dally around trying to get a bigger industrial to haul cans for a slow retriever.
So, yeah... if your a miner, Hulk should be your one and only concern in the whole universe. Once you get it you can decide where to go from there.
One other note on self-hauling hulk: You don't have to worry about pesky can flipping newbs at all since your cans are in your cargo hold ... Just keep an eye out for jihadswarm ::insert witty signature here:: |

Thanks to the guy who suggested a Mammoth; I worked out that I can get a new character on my other account up to a Mammoth, with T2 cargo expanders and shield upgrades, in about a week. So I'm doing that, which will only put a bit of a dent in my other account's main's training time, meanwhile I can carry on working towards what's important on the mining character. Plus, this way if I happen to not be using my main account at the time (such as the frequent occasions when I get bored of running mission), I can fleet up with myself and haul my own cans as I go, instead of being at the mercy of ore thieves.

An Iteron V with 3 cargo rigs hauls over 38k without a single can. With cans....I'll let you guys do the math, eh? _______________________________

Industrials aren't designed for mining; none of them can fit more than one mining laser. Your Bantam will outmine it easily, so it is only viable for afk mining (which will likely get you swarmed as well).

GSC stands for Giant Secure Canister.
Basically its a magical item that takes up 3000 m3 of space in your hold but allows you to fit 3900m3 of stuff inside of it. They see a lot of use in mining operations and such where the items hauled are small in m3 but moved in large quantities. You can buy them from stations for a few hundred thousand a piece.
