Hi there,
I'm seeing a lot of offlined/abandoned towers in highsec, that don't seem to be used, or even belong to corps that seem to be inactive. If I wanted to remove one of them to set up my own tower, would this work:
1) Wardec the corp that owns the idle tower 2) Wait 24h 3) Blow up their tower 4) Set up my own tower
If that is correct, how long does it approximately take to destroy a large tower with a few BS (assuming noone comes to defend it)? I haven't found any info on the structure hitpoints of towers, only shield (which would be down anyways) and armor are mentioned in the attributes ... So how long does it take?

Edited by: Arous Drephius on 16/03/2008 12:14:14 Your method is correct, however, the tower will still have ALL of it's shield HP (and it will still regenerate iirc). The only thing that it will not have is the forcefield. Since there won't be a forcefield, you are free to get right up next to it with your BS fleet and pew pew the tower.
The time depends entirely on what race it is (for resists), and if it is a faction tower or not. Expect to be there for several boring hours though, unless you can field a huge BS blob to take it out.
Edited for moar reading comprehension.

1- Open petition to GM asking for them to remove the shield HP - since it is offlined (they will do this i have had it done) 2- Armor HP is quite alot 4mil+ and 1mil+ for structure i believe.
Make sure u do point 1 or you will be there for hours.

And what was the reason the GM gave for giving this big gift?
Unless the tower was the property of a corporation inactive for years (and that is hard to prove) it seem really a dubious decision.
If I forgot to fuel my tower and some GM was so kind to remove the shield so some player can kill it faster I would be very cross.

Well, there might be a bug that causes shields to remain in place when a tower runs out of fuel, and if so, it would be appropriate for a GM to fix it. My research services Spreadsheets: Top speed calculation - Halo Implant stats |

They will only do that if the corp that owns the POS is closed.

The towers shield still stays up even when it is offline, but the "bubble" goes down.
Overall you will need quite a few ships to kill a large pos, it took my old alliance a carrier, and 4 battleships to kill a small offline POS and that still took 4 hours. Teamspeak Hosting

If the corporation is closed all its assets will vanish from what I know.

5 BS's were enough to take down a medium faction tower with hardeners. Took them..6 hours? queue up a good movie and have at it!

I have seen quiet a few BS attack a tower of ours before and the sheilds were actually recharging faster than they could dmg it so you will need more than 10 battleships to take one down.
But yeah you should expect it to take atleast a good few hours.

An offline tower will not have its forcefield. It will have its shields and I do not believe they recharge while offline.
Since its offline it will not have shield hardeners and I will assume your going to attack it on its 0% damage resists.
Worst case would be a Dread Guristas large tower, with 60million shield.
I'm not sure on the numbers for a fully gank Raven, but I think its over 1000dps If I haven't did something totally wrong it would take 1 gank raven 16 and 2/3 hours to get the towers shields down.
If the shields do indeed recharge then it would take longer. ----

For sanity sake this is an ideal job for drones and amarr BS's. T1 crystals never break so you just get up close, press fire and walk away. Missiles and guns you have to press fire after every reload.

IMO, this is the best advice yet :) It preserves your sanity and your wallet (who wants to spend a fortune on ammo when you dont have to).
Of course if all you can fly is ravens you're sort of out of luck. Still I would suggest to get the cheapest ammo you can find or get a few friends with dominixes.

I suggest Ravens as they can change their damage type 100%. Lasers would be nice, it just depends on the tower. How does a gank laser battleship's cap hold up? ----

Holds up just fine, you can fit some cap mods, and permarun the guns on a geddon easily. -------------------------- Research & Trade |

Why not offer the lazy/busy pos manager/ceo some money to buy the corp with the tower and structures? You will probably get fire sale prices since they are too busy to manage it.
