Hey guys real new to the whole Megathron Sniper here and i was wondering... Even with all these set-ups that i have encountered and my skills basically maxed in all the gunnery skills, i can't seem to get the DPS i have seen countless times before inflicted on me. I was just wondering , am i missing something? why can i only inflict 30dmg/gun and i saw a guy two weeks ago pwn me with 200?
I realize also that my two subjects were an Absolution and a Drake, but i should still be doing some killer damage no?

train bs to 5, and surgical strike to 5. There are also two seperate 5% attribute hardwiring implants you can plug in that will help your damage mod on large hybrids. Beyond that, not much else.

Besides the damage increasing skills, you may want to have the capacitor skills as high as possible, the big rails suck a lot of power.
That other guy may have been "cheating" and used three locus rigs (optimal range), allowing him to use higher damage faction ammo instead of the T2 variant.
You were shooting at resist bonus ships, one a T2 no less. If they knew they were facing snipers chances are they used Kin/Them hardeners since the Mega is very popular which might explain the poorly damage you quoted.

Because bunch of sabres will bubble you in no time if your support just leave one of them. And it will happen in 50% of fights.
Fleet BS will need large rem rep in last high, and your setups sucks cause you will be out of cap in less than 2 minutes - fleet battles last a bit more. [/url] "What is funnier ? 20 Matari slaves pinned to one tree or 1 Matari slave pin |

Edited by: Ajenia on 17/03/2008 12:06:12 Your setup is pretty normal. What kind of ammo are you using? What ranges were the engagements at? Also both ships you listed could have had pretty solid resists, so don't expect to hit them as hard as say, another fleet sniper that isn't tanked, etc..
Maxing out your skills will obviously help, but from all 4's and relevant 5's for T2 guns, it's certainly not going to quadruple your damage, so I'd guess it was a resistances factor.
Quick Edit: For normal fleet use you will have cap issues with your current setup. Consider dropping the plate for a cpr. MWD is usually required in 0.0 as well, to get through bubbles while traveling. -- It's a pleasure to burn. |

Agreed that the ships i hit of High resists but against a TPed no tank Caracal i still only hit striking 166dmg was the highest. I am not sure if this is high or not?

A caracal? You're talking 145 sig radius vs 400 on ship and gun, let alone if it was moving. If you were fighting the Mega 1on1, he might've shot a resist hole, might've had insane skills, some lucky critical shots, might've shot you sitting still.

Well, I'm guessing "Null" was a typo, yes?
Right, so assuming that was the case, my first suggestion would be for swapping to antimatter for your close range rail ammo (ie while moving with fleet, shooting a pos, etc.). I hit some "wreckings" up in the 1200 range using cheapy t1 AM the other day while shooting a pos at close range. Of course you need to consider certain things. It was a really big target, and it wasn't one of those nano'd matari pos's either . The point is, I was using AM because certain factors that are not common for a sniperthron came into play.
Now, for actual ship engagements, that basic t1 AM ammo is generally going to do more for your rails at close range than using Jav. The primary reason is tracking. Inspection of both ammo types will show you why.
However, I think that you may not be using the sniperthron in the manner that is most common. Long range engagements, in groups with other snipers, with the expectation of being as far as you possibly can be, while still inflicting decent damage.
The thron just isn't a mid range boat, so to speak, and as such, your basic snipe ammo will be spike, and your range of preference will be 160-249km from the target.
If you want massive dps from your thron, it's certainly capable. Train up blasters, and t2 heavy drones, and charge in close. -- It's a pleasure to burn. |
