i did an experiment a few days ago. i put a route through 0.0 with an alt in a cheap frig. the route was on over 400 jumps all over 0.0 and then i started autopilot and went to bed. when i got up i was back where i stared, sitting in the same ship at the gate.
0.0 dangerous? i hardly think so... Playing minmatar is "like going down a flight of stairs in a office chair firing an Uzi". |

If you had tried the same in a larger ship, or had plotted a course that took you through station systems, or 0.0 entry systems, i'm quite sure the outcome would have been quite different
Though yes, a sizeable majority of 0.0 is actually empty and unused, and any locals that you pass would be likely to assume that you are a scout for someones fleet, and thus not put much effort into engaging you.

sure this is fully possible but considering tha amount of gates i passed you think i would have run into atleast 1 gate camp if 0.0 was as dangerous as most carebears think... Playing minmatar is "like going down a flight of stairs in a office chair firing an Uzi". |

Oh i agree, Traveling in 0.0 isn’t usually that dangerous unless your in something slow, and your not at all likely to run into "random" camps once your past the first few 0.0 systems, camps are usually only placed near the entry points, outpost systems, or unavoidable bottlenecks between two warring alliances, people in 0.0 don't just decide "we're gonna camp XXX system just in case something comes through", they'd be waiting forever. -

Edited by: Leandro Salazar on 18/03/2008 16:11:15 0.0 is not really all that dangerous, especially for small cheap ships. Thing is, if you are in a bigger ship, avoiding the dangers can be inconvenient and sometimes quite boring, which is probably what turns more carebears off than the dangers themselves. That is certainly the reason for the breaks I take from 0.0 from time to time.

As such gate camps only exist two places. Either at high traffic system like the choke points to and from empire and camps defending operations for the alliance. Now most outposts, that normally have various activities ongoing, have been built are in places were it's easy to defend from normal gang attacks. So defensive camps are in dead end systesm/constellations since outposts are around there. When you plot a route going around 0.0 you won't visit any of those since they are dead end areas.
Anyways, you pose no threat in a small ship and you can't really do anything worthwhile in 0.0 with, thus you don't really prove the risk of 0.0. Go to 0.0 in at least a BC and start ratting for a few days and say it's still easy ride. Or try coming in a mackinaw/hulk and try your luck.
E-Peen or lack of it. Something about pew pew, I think.

I started 0.0 As a noob. TBH I agree with the OP
People only try to make you believe 0.0 is dangerous. Only thing dangerous about 0.0 is bringing goods back to Empire.
BTW Most people just live out a can and cloak. Then bring the good back when the camp die. This is the main reason why I believe cloaking should never be removed from game. Its only because (people in 0.0 don't like you being there) Its totally about control and territory. But CCP Might gank cloaking because it make people ISK!

Nothings harmless in 0.0, all small ships are obviously alt scouts/spies and must be dealt with accordingly -------------------------------------------

If you look at the map empire actualy has 1000s more ship losses per day than 0.0, as said tho once you actualy start some work out there someone will bother with dealing with you.
0.0 is a boring place unless doing the allince thing, ccp should boost it heavy & low sec both are close to worthless for most systems but 0.0 should be decent in ever system.

Lowsec has you run into -more- pirates, but lowsec gives you a better chance of getting past them if you're smart.
