I've heard that there is considerable profit to be made simply by trading the market. Looking around the forums, I see a lot of posts with instructions that I just do not understand, as they seem to assume that the person reading knows a little bit about trading the market. I do not. So, I was wondering if there were any good step-by-step guides, that are easy to understand, that can get me started. Thanks for any info |

Look for stuff where high buy orders are as far away from low sell orders as possible. Place a higher buy order yourself, sell slightly lower than the other sell orders. Profit.
That's as plain as possible. Everything else is just details.

Some guides are listed here, read and then ask questions if you don't understand something.

Read the guides, then use eve-search and/or google if you still have questions and then in the extremely unlikely event that your question hasn't already been asked and answered, ask it. Seriously, the absolute last thing you should do as a noob is post a bunch of question on this forum. The answers are out there, find them yourself rather than filling our forum with requests to do it for you. This is Market Discussion, not Market Noob Help.

I don't mind answering his questions if they don't require 10 pages long essay. If you are bothered by newbie questions, don't read them. Search in Eve forums is completly useless and sometimes even Eve Search fails (common words often timeouts), so it is not easy to find answers.

The most profitable way to approach this is to start knowing this and only this: Buy low sell high. Sure, you can read up guides and get a feel for how others are approaching the market, but do you think they tell you exactly how they made that 40 billion? Of course not. What i'm saying is learn it mostly by yourself. With the knowledge you will recieve from doing this, you'll begin to find certain "trends" and be able to easily capitalize on that. All the guides do is give you a VERY basic overview of what the person is doing. Most of the guides are just an insanely long, drawn out statement that just says "Buy low sell high"

Actually the secret is to buy high and sell low but that's a bit too subtle for some people

If you're told how to trade by someone else, especially on the forums, you will never do very well.
The only way to truly make a lot of money trading is to come up with your own strategy.
All you'll get here is advice from people you don't want it from, ie the small fries who don't know enough themselves, as the big time traders aren't going to give you the real gems you are looking for.

Edited by: Ghengis Tia on 26/03/2008 19:19:16 Find the trade hub in your area. Go to maps and check "ships docked in the last 24 hours". The big yellow balls are the busiest, most likely trade hubs.
Click on "market" and then select any item. The first screen will give you sellers quantities, prices, etc., below are the buy orders (what people will pay immediately for an item. This is lower than the sellers prices usually).
Click on the next tab next to market info (I think its called Item Data or something) and you will see the volume being traded of that item. Another tab will get you a pretty graph of the price history. Play with this until you get a good sense of all the information provided.
Hone in on a dozen items that sell in quantity and you can afford. Go to Eve-Central.com and check prices in Jita. If they are 25%+ lower, go to Jita (Caldari Navy Assembly Plant Jita IV Moon IV) and buy them, bring them back to your trading hub and sell them. Do this over and over and over and over until you get a stash and can move on to better things. Or just continue and watch your wallet balance climb.
Always keep your price the lowest in the station. Do not undercut other sellers drastically, you just lose Isk. You are providing a convenience to the buyer and the going prices are more or less fair. To check this, open your wallet to "orders". Right click on an item and click "View Market Details". Check to see if your price is the lowest. If not, right click again and click "modify order". Reduce your price. This costs 100 Isk each time, a pittance. Do this over and over and over and over.......

Not to derail the thread or anything, but with the price history and qty's sold I'm gathering that the amount shown is for the entire region not any particular station even if you have selected to view items in station only?
If so is there anyway to see the movement of items from a particular station only?

Who ever it was who told you that was just taking the ****. You can make a lot more ISK running missions and ratting. I wouldnt bother with trading its too much effort for too little rewards - and very boring.
Hope that helps...
