First time I got podded in a non upgrade clone. Reward: not being able to fly t2 cruisers anymore. Seriously there is nothing more retarted than punishing people for forgetting to update your clone. If you can't remove the losing of skillpoints then for the love of god atleast add a warning if u are about to undock in a nonupdated clone. ---------------------------------------

I can understand this rant tbh. CCP adds alot of noob friendly stuff and carebear protective tweaks but the pvpers cant even get a simple warning for a forgotten clone update. Lets face it, its just the pvpers that need to know this.
CCP either make it hardcore for carebears too by removing all the probe nerfs and alike or give us pvpers a warning system. -------------------------------------- [Video]Skirmish Warfare |

Duh, thats not te issue. The issue is when you get podded and have to remember to buy a new one before undocking. -------------------------------------- [Video]Skirmish Warfare |

I PvP-ed in noob clones while drunk
Just forgot to get a new one after getting podded, went back to base, jumped in a new ship, and went berserk again. Fortunately, I didn't get podded again ;) Sig removed, inappropriate link. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |

You should ask yourself, how many more buttons, interfaces and third party softwares will it take for you become responsibile for the choices you made.
You are not being punished. It's not like clone upgrades are new. Checking your clone before you undock is easy and basic. I'm sure there is a ingame tutorial on how and why. Medical is open to you 23/7 and the User Interface works. You had oppurtunity to do it.
What really is going on is that you had forgot.
So rather than asking for more code and dollars spent to add it, just simply remind yourself to check before you undock.
That can't be too hard to do right?
An added line code shouldn't even compare to cognitive reasoning. Come'on people, we are a species capable of wiping our own arses.

It's not that hard to forget when u have multiple accounts. It should not be too hard to either a) just remove the whole clone thing b) add a reminder when u undock in a noob clone. ---------------------------------------

I've been training and trading multiple characters for years now. I know about upgrading clones and waking up at 3am to switch a skill.
I still do not see it as a difficult thing to remember.

Well maybe you are one of the few who have never done it. I have flown around in a non-upgraded clone a few times and just today was the first time I got podded while doing so. It's just a stupid punishment because losing your ship should be enough. ---------------------------------------

i dont agree with this. it basically comes down to personal responsibility. everytime you get podded, the very first thing you do is open up the medical, buy a new clone. get into the habit of it and you'll never ever have a problem.
And yes, for the record, i have been podded on a 900k clone and lost a decent amount of training time. and i was very angry and frustrated etc, but you've gotta take responsibility for it yourself, not try and blame ccp.

Entirely your fault, i'm afraid. Just because it's been "safe" to fly around a few times, it doesn't mean it will be safe "today"

I can think of something it takes away!
Seriously... Well you see, if there weren't a clone sitting in goo, when you died you'd need to start over. A clone keeps you 'alive' through the use of another body, but with your previous body's consciousness transplanted.

I remember there being a warning from Aura if you left the station without an updated clone when you started, after you managed to get more SP up than the noob clone would cover. Like the rest of us, as with most/all of the tutorials, you turned it off. Been a while since I started, but can't see CCP removing that little feature. |

Why is it so hard to remember to just upgrade your clone every time you die? I've played this game for about 4 years now and have not lost a skill due to forgetting to upgrade my clone. It should just be reflex. As soon as you get podded you upgrade. Unless of course your clone is set to a non clone station, in which case you're dumb.

As a long time player I think the "death penalty" is rediculous at best...
1. you never want to not have an upgraded clone 2. almost no one forgets so whats the point?
Implants introduced a new kind of ISK-relate death (pod) penalty, so we dont really need the clone/skillpoint penalty any more.
I support removing the need to buy a new clone after being podded. There are so many other areas that delivers, but clones are just a minor neusance and something most (but not all I see) never forget.

If CCP tried to "fix" the clone system I could totally see people losing millions upon millions of skill points due to random bugs/oversight. Really, I've grown that weary of their patches; I can't remember a major one yet that hasn't caused all sorts of issues and this is the sort of stuff people would actually quit the game over.

I lost some SP due to learning more skills tha my clone could cope with, as a result I lost some Not many, but some
My reaction was to call myself a noob and move on.
I like the clone system, it all adds to eve having a real sense of possible loss. ------ This is a signature, no?

Because when you do forget it hurts. I know people that have lost T2 Large Turrets because of non-updated clones. It's fine.

Clonebays force certain hubs where medical bays exist and make it so that moving a clone to a station without a medical center is a dangerous idea. I think that does add to the game.
It also punishes stupid people even more. Nothing more satisfying than knowing your target has lost the ability to fly capital ships because he could not bother to update his clone before racing to his death again.

It adds a real death penalty to the game, somethnig very few other games have. Several people in this thread have said "it punishes the pvpers only" - if you said this, you are not a "pvper". You dont appear to want to actually inflict potential damage to the enemy.
Its not possible to forget to update your clone after being podded, unless you somehow also forget to get into a new ship? Theyre the same thing - you go out to fight in a ship that exists and a clone thats up to date. In any other case, you're a collosal moron, your enemy was not (he beat you) and therefore, you deserved your SP loss. You in fact, deserved more.
They ought to make it tougher actually, by having less available medical stations, but buff clone vat bays so they can be used for normal clones not just jump clones, and introduce a clone bay pos array. _______________________________________________ Mercenary Forces |

I don't really care about fixing this problem because it's hardly a problem at all. Nevertheless, if I were to suggest a fix I'd say do away with buying clones in general - charge people the appropiate costs upon death and be done with it.
I do at times forget to upgrade my clones. Back when I first started and I was upgrading them frequently it didn't bother me. Now I buy clones every three months or so and more than once I've undocked then opened my charcter sheet only to notice my error. It makes a somewhat nail biting trip to the nearest clone vat, especially if you have to travel through lowsec to do it.

Not to nitpick but there is a fantastic death penalty in the form of losing your ship. Sure insurance will help with t1 ships but those t2 ships. . .

Edited by: Vizhonia on 26/03/2008 18:31:54 Totally disagree with original post... Eve is set up in a way that experience is purely based on the time you've been playing... How long you been training. Not a bit on what you've done. A noob can NEVER catch up with an old timer.
Clones and SP loss is the ONLY thing on EVE even resembling a balancer in that area.
If they removed it from the game, I'd quit.

I agree, you should just turn into a wisp and then be able to fly back to your ship, and ressurect, all this losing of stuff, and ships and gear, and and and...
oops sorry, that was just a flashback from some other game I once played, maybe you should try it, it's called WOW.
