Got a question..
I have been specializing in being a Command Ship Pilot. Training now to be able to use all the mind links under the Leadership tree.
However, I am in doubt if its really worth training Wing Command and Fleet Command as a Command Ship Pilot. Mainly because I am unsure if I will find use for it, but also because of the training time. Wing Command is Rank 8 and Fleet Command is Rank 12.. That is almost at Capital Ship level.
My question is, who will find the use to train those skills? And is it really worth it??
Thanks..

If you plan to fly in a fleet that's larger than just 10 people, and you want the others to get link bonuses... yes, somebody has to train some of them, according to needs (i.e. number of people in fleet).

Thanks! Guess I will have to train them :)

As a fleet commander, you can coneivably command vast numbers of people, depending on the skill of your subordinate wing commanders and squad leaders.
For example, I have Fleet Command 3 (Leadership 5, Wing Command 5 as pre-req). I can control 3 wings, and presuming my wing commanders are all top notch, they can each control a wing of 5 squads. Furthermore, if the squad leaders are all maxed in Leadership, they can command a squad of 10 pilots, each. My command structure could apply bonuses to a fleet of...
3 Wings * 5 Squads (ea.) * 10 pilots (ea.) = 150 total pilots
These skills are extremely important to apply bonuses to the massive fleets that clash in capsuleer wars, particularly in nullsec space, as only qualified leaders may pass on their leadership bonuses through the hierarchy.

if in a big alliance like myself, it is very important. but you do need others to have wc5 to pass on the bonuses.
i have fleet 4 and my gang members love me in my claymore with implants in, given them so sexy speed bonuses.
if you want to feel the love then get training

Normally what you'll see is the normal "group" cmdr will train wing command to 4 leaving wing command 5 for the guy who wants to run the fleet. Fleet cmd 3 (WC 5 / Lead 5) 3 commanders (WC 4 / Lead 5) 12 Squads (Leadership 5) 120 pilots not including the commanders
Thats a 136 man fleet, with fleet cmd 4 you'll add 45 pilots for 181 man fleet. All gaining bonuses from you.
Fleet cmd 4 (WC 5 / Lead 5) 4 commanders (WC 4 / Lead 5) 16 Squads (Leadership 5) 160 pilots not including the commanders

As I get it, in the above case it would be only a 124 man fleet, because the squad commander counts towards the 10 people in a squad. - Success=Achievements/Expectations Please visit your user settings to re-enable images. |

Not in any of the gangs I've run...

Epic gang sizes only need those skills, so unless your one of the leaders/FCs of an alliance you shouldn't need it.

You are mistaken, but just the last part. It is me that they love!

Don't forget. The chain is only as strong as the weakest link.
Your uber bonuses will not transfer down to people if:
1. They are trying to command more gang members/squads/wings than they have the skill to do so. Example:
You are have Fleet Command and one of your wing commanders has wing command 4 and has 5 squads. This means NO ONE in that wing gets any bonuses of any kind.
2. The commander is docked / not in same system / not in a ship.
So its a good idea to make sure the commanders have the right skills and stay out of harms way. If a commander goes down, promote a new one, if people don't get mad because of the 'gang smack' thingy. Which I don't know why they have that affect you jumping thru gates/docking.

actualy you dont need to have the skills req to create the squad.
if you have a squad booster in each squad you dont even need the wing & fleet command to have boost (tho the boost will most likely be reduced) yep you can just have 5 separate squads of 10 with leadership 5 for the comanders .
note i did not test if you could expand with more wings even whitout the skill but i suspect it would be possible then you would only be short of the comanders (25ppl)

Here is a question. If I'm running in a small group of 5 or so, do the other people in my "fleet" get the bonuses I've trained up?

yes if you're the squad commander, or the squad commander designates you as squad booster.
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |
