Everyone is flying them, they're easy as hell to replace and you can lose 3 of them in the same day and still log off in the possession of a BS.
So why don't you just make the battleship construction take 2 weeks minimum, with PE of 0 being about 3 weeks? I mean these are behemots no? Only used for fleet combat? Few corps can afford them? (hah, yeah right)
Well you don't wanna increase their cost, so why just not simply and very easily increase their production time?
Then people won't use them as an everyday ship and cruiser and frigate popularity will explode, as it should be. ------------------------------------------- If you kill them, they will die!

there's so many things wrong with this idea I can barely begin. Increased production times would just be a pain, it wouldn't reduce battleship popularity at all. Battleship pilots would still have a huge, unfair advantage over frigate pilots in this system, and they would still be used as much as they are now. What's more, this would cause huge reprecussions on the economy. Small to medium sized corps would be unable to keep up with battleship production, while megacorps could keep spares battleships around and still replace them almost instantly. The change you propose is in no way simple nor easy.

Nice idea Hippey. I think it is too easy, but I like the idea of making Battleships more scarce. I think that balancing ship types (way back before release) would have been a better idea, but it is too late to point out that having a design system where every ship is the same for the most part, just some have more/bigger weapons was not the best plan.
On the other hand, it appears that they are coming up with several ideas to redress this.
Personally I think that commercial use ships (hauling and mining) should have been done in an entirely seperate class from combat vessels, including not being able to fit the same equipment. But that is water under the bridge now...

Agreed with athule. The damage has been done.
not to mention you have to have six of them now to do any decent mining.

yeah... sorry man, but in any persistent world time only writes a post-dated check for trouble, doesn't prevent it. If it took a week to build a battleship then large corps would have a steady stream of them building all the time. After the initial 2-4 weeks, during which bship replacements would in fact be scarcer, it would be back to business as usual excepting that newer corps getting their first battleship BS would go "i have to wait for WHAT??!"
Scarcity of them wouldn't be bad if it was across the board, but the scarcity would be entirely borne by the small, new corps, and this would shift further imbalance to favor large alliances

I always thought maybe make them so you can't fully insure them might help a little. Make them only insurable to 75% or something. Less people would probably use them, plus they'd more than likely need frig/cruiser escorts to help them. Then again, it might kill the BS, or make it so nobody wants to fight in them. --

Uterly stupid idea. If something similar had been done at launch then maybee. But i worked hard to come where i am, and are still puttng allot off gaming hours too keep my self inn a BS.
And with the upcomming patches and new ships smaler ships will bee quite effective inn batlle. -------------------------------------------------> What I look forward to is continued immaturity followed by death.

At the very least, take away the free 40% insurance on battleships. Sorry but if u cant afford to lose a bs then u cant afford to fly one.

Who is actually stupid enough to run around with only 40 percent of their BS insured? Why are some people so caught up on this free insurance? Really, shake yourself and move on please, 40 percent of the value is nothing compared to actual replacement cost including cost of modules.

Edited by: Grey Area on 15/04/2004 09:09:51 Second suggestion to reduce the number of BS's in game - hangar rental costs. Each player gets allocated a hangar for free, which can hold 20 Noob Ships, 10 Frigates, 5 Cruisers or 1 Battleship. Any ships more than that require a second hangar, which would incur a hangar rental cost (which should be pretty steep, say 1 mill per day)
Obviously the hangar could hold say 2 Cruisers and 5 frigates (someone else could work out the math, maybe just assign a hangar size based on mass).
At least it would stop people holding "spare" BS's. Some similar restriction would have to be placed on corp hangars too - maybe reflecting the number of members in the corp, with larger corps getting more "free" space.
I don't see why this couldn't be applied. Space in a space station must be at a premium anyway, it's ridiculous to assume the owners would allow you to garage ten massive Battleships and not charge you for it.
Maybe apply the same rule to Items as well?

Just gonna quote that bit abit BS having unfair advantage vs Frigate, here's why that statement seems abit off.
You seem to be saying the 500k Frigate should be able to go toe to toe with the 100m BS hhhmmmmmmmmmm, that doesnt seem right to me, if anything frigates are over powered, brining the turret nerf into game will only make frigates even more powerfull.
What CCP needs to be doing rather than nerf the turret tracking is fix the bug where drones can shoot you at 80km (know this first hand) then the problem would be fixed as BS hardly if ever hit a frigate anyway. But instead of going one step at a time, due to the constant whineing of people who dont know how to fight properly yet, they have to go heavy handed.

Terrible Idea. The cat has already been let out of the bag. If it were more difficult in the beginning of the game it might work but you can't change it now it would screw over so many people.

Sorry if I came across that way, but I still feel the ISK argument isn't exactly valid. True, a single frigate should have little to no chance against a battleship, and a single cruiser has no business trying to attack one. However battleships have only 1 vulnerability: A bigger battleship. With the exception of a PT-boat style kestrel, almost no number of frigates/cruisers can provide a credible threat to a battleship, even if the battleship is optimized for a "capital ship" style bombardment. This is largely due to the drones having infinite tracking and range, and the random wrecking shots that can quickly rip a frigate in half. I feel a well organized frigate strike force (costing 2 to 4 million) should be able to take out a 100m battleship that's not prepared to handle such a force (i.e. a tempest with 6 1400mm guns and torpedos). Battleships should have to deal with multiple forms of threats, either with escorts, or actually start using those dual barrel modules.

Funny you should say that, as that's exactly what we did last night. A gang of about 8 frigs and 3 cruisers took out 2 megathrons and made a 3rd enemy bship run for it. ____________________________________

I'm legitimately impressed. There's very few stories like this out there. Not to ask you to give away your military secrets, but how did you pull that off?

Noob. Complete noob. Two well-equipped Blackbirds with torps can take out any battleship in the game if they're good players with good skills. A bunch of kestrels and a griffin can blast most BSs to smithereens. And Interceptors make it that much easier. For just 2 million ISK worth and 5 decent pilots, you can take any battleship in the game. 'nuff said.

Try this fix:

Damage done. There are players with bazillions of ISK, no changes to production, cost or anything will help small corps or new players, the changes would take so long to trickle through to the super-rich that they'd never take.
Silverlancer is right on the money again, battleships are very very easy to lose. People who are repeatedly owned by them are either a) foolish or b) unlucky.
Everything has its weakness. Most new players naturally exhibit "Experience, lack of" as theirs and proceed to hit the forums.
Drones, yes, definately need fixing but it's a tough one. If drones are smaller than frigates, which they are, they shouldn't be able to put out more damage than a fully tooled up frigate with, say, railguns. Fit drones with appropriately sized weaponry that, huh, MISSES OCCASIONALLY, and things would improve immeasurably.

WTH!?! Is there something wrong with Battleships? Seems to me you are playing a different game than I am. What will a 3 week build time even do? Corps will just put ships in que and wait, after 3 weeks there will again be a stream of BS flowing out.
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH HAVING A BATTLESHIP
This idea is so stupid I can't even begin to understand.

I have a great idea for all you ppl who hate/lothe/dispise battleships, go and play Earth and Beyond. There you will find peace and harmony with no pvp to be scared off and no player battleships to give "unfair" advantage to you in your fighter/frigates. It would also give us a break from your moaning. Get this into your heads Eve is a massive game set in real time, it is supposed to reflect a future reality, frigates and cruisers are not ment to go 1 vs 1 on anything approaching equal terms with a battleship. Read the historic account of the hunt for the Bismarck. Lots of ships and aircraft and eventually after some luck they bring her down. Eve will never be the balanced eutopia you want, Eve is about taking a ship and finding a job for it using tactics and different combinations of mods. We at RKK us frigs and cruisers all the time in PVP mounting ecm, jammers, missle tubes what ever. Like life stop f@cking moaning and live it!
Sorry to be rude but this whole nerf bs so a frig can take it sort of "discussion" pees me off no end.
