I wasn't real sure where to post this, but...
I have a 19" LCD, and will soon be getting a 2nd one. I've been dreaming of playing EVE on dual monitors so that I can play both my characters side by side. However, I was wondering, for most of the time I will only be on one account at a time, is it possible to play EVE in a resolution that will take up the entire 2 monitors?

Well you can if you want to (at least on ATI). I myself have 2x19" CRT's and once tried for fun to set them up as one very wide screen. EVE worked just fine on 2560x960 resolution. But the problem is that your ship and the status meter etc. are just where the screens split so it's quite annoying to look at. I prefer to use the second screen to just watch irc, tv, etc. But I must confess that for once there was enough screenspace for all the windows and i still could see where my ship was going. :)

So, what really is needed is a three monitor setup. Then the ship will be seen as a whole object, and not split on two. Also, you get a whole two nice monitors to have everything else on. Though, what could be really useful is to set where the center of the view is. That way you could have the ship on one monitor, as you normally have and have one extra monitor for extra windows and such.

it would be handly if 1st monitor would stay the way it is, yet the bar on the left, the bar wich contains market, corporation, browser, etc, etc, that that one is moved to 2nd monitor if dual monitor is selected, and stuff like the "fleet" screen that that one is moved to 2nd screen too
background on 2nd monitor can be just black so ship+status monitor will stay on "primary" monitor...
that way with dual screen u can just have a clear main nav monitor and a 2nd monitor were all the "hassle" is on.

lol, well... aside from the fact that I cant reall afford a 3rd monitor, my desk isnt big enough to hold 3 monitors, but if it were possible you can bet your ass i'd have 3 monitors instead of 2.
This monitor im getting is a hand me down, so im not even paying for it. Not to mention its a diffrent brand monitor which might be a problem in it self, what with diffrent heights and all.
If you wanted to REALLY fix the problem, just just but 1 32" wide screen monitor and play on the highest possible resolution lol. THAT would be better then 3 monitors hehe

The answer is to take the outer case off the LCD monitors, both of them... or all three of them ::drools::, and use some sort of fine cutting tool to remove the "inner" sides of the cases so that the two LCD units can mate up (with some electrical tape insulation... shorts are bad!) with very little gap in viewable area between. Ive seen this done before i just cant find the link now (if anyone finds something similar please post the link)
imagine a 3 screen seamless display... ::drools more:: ::insert witty signature here:: |

well I got my 2nd monitor all hooked up, and the game has a big problem running in windowed mode now. Full screen is perfect, but windowed the FPS goes so bad its unplayable.
Now when using classic graphics its a lil better, but not much. In short, if I can play in windowed mode, having 2 monitors is useless to me. Some one said to set my settings to horizontal span, but I dont know how to do that. Anyone have any ideas?

Are you running the client on the second monitor? If so you need to alter the adapter in the EVE display settings, otherwise you will experience much lower fps.

Does CCP have any plans regarding dual monitor setups anyways? Like have any Devs mentioned it part of a expansion?
The suggestion for having all the windows on a 2nd monitor would be excellent (market/chat/etc), but ideally have 2nd account on 2nd monitor with ease would be better.
Many games have came out this year with adding parts of game to 2nd monitors, I played Supreme Commander with 2 monitors and that was awesome having map on one screen.
Im also getting a 2nd monitor next week for 2nd account, I hope it works out "ok".

Well I fixed the problem by eventually figuring out how to set my computer to horizontal span. It was a little confusing in the ATI control center but that DEFINITELY fixed the problem, runs perfect. But to answer your question, I was primarily useing monitor #1 (primary) but it ran the same way no matter which one the window was on.
But for future reference to anyone else with my same problem, if your unsure what "Horizontal span" is, basicly its more then just a 2nd monitor its essentialy making both monitors act like they are 1. The easiest way to tell the diffrence is if your background wallpaper and/or your windows task bar are NOT spread across both monitors then you DONT have it set to horizontal span.
Hope that helps anyone.

Have you tried some KVM switches Imax? I was thinking of getting a 2nd PC but using 1 monitor and use switch to get between them fast.
The only problem I found with that is no USB KVM provide that high rez for 24 inch monitors.
They do offer HDMI/DVI switchers..but not sure if you can use it in conjunction with a KVM switch for just keyboard/mouse function.

I did a quick google search and found this...
These have USB cables included, but I think they are just for audio, not video. I myself have no expirence with these type of switchers. Please visit your user settings to re-enable images. |
