Anyone had any problems running EVE on the 64bit version of Vista? I am thinking of installing that OS on my new PC and wanted to make sure everything would run smooth.

Running fine I just can't run premuim content as it will eat up all 4 gigs of ram :( BH can't find it yet
but ya I run 3-4 clients no prob
Windows VistaÖ Ultimate x64-based PC Gigabyte X38-DQ6 Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Extreme CPU Q6850 Memory 4,093.69 MB 2X Crossfire ASUS EAH3870/G/HTDI/512M Radeon HD 3870 512MB

Running Eve on my Vista 64-bit (Home Premium) box just fine with premium content enabled it's utilising around 350MB per client - not enough to max out my 2 gigs of ram even if I were to run 4 clients.
I do get occasional crash-to-desktop issues but I'm told that happens in XP and Vista 32-bit as well

probs i have are severe delays in login, logout, when i click on pilot info or try to open a chat with another player it takes up to 30 secs at times to load. Market loading times are excessive such as when selling something, the popup window appears black for up to 30 secs then loads properly. Real pain when selling loads of salvage/ore/minerals etc. Cache is clear, ram is 2gig, plenty HD space and virtual memory space too. No idea what prob is. This is evident on a clean install on another PC running just WinXP64 and EVE, no other software at all so no issues with other progs. Reckon i need to upgrade PC to something newer...??

No problems here:
Windows Vista Home Premium x64 4GB RAM 512MB Geforce 8800GT graphics Athlon X2 5000+ Processor
Runs Premium content, IE and a bunch of other stuff and barely goes over 40% memory/50% processor or below 50FPS with one client running in windowed mode with Aero enabled.

Edited by: Dr Kojak on 27/05/2008 08:00:39 I had some problems with memory handling to start with using 64 bit vista and only having 4 gigs of mem. The memory consumption for EvE went bananas and it crashed almost all the time.
My system is: xfx 780 sli MB 2,67 intel quad 8 gb ram 2 x asus 9800gx2 cards quad sli (yes my power-company loves me!) ++
Then I added another 4 gigs and with vista sp1, the newest drivers and setting my gfx to "only" target 60fps I have had no problems at all running 2 clients simultaneously. (when I did not limit to 60fps the system went haywire and although getting 200+ fps is cool, it was pretty unstable. I tried the limitation before installing the extra mem, it did not help me much unfortunately)
Vista 64 works like a charm for me at least, but if you do not have more than 3 gigs of mem, or using a lot of mem for the gfx cards, I would have sticked to xp really. |

formatted my Vista x 64 partition just now
XP sounds fine!
Vista is one piece of malfunctioning operating system, more pain that benefit to me, it also got destroyed by primitive virus attack.
XP uses less resources and runs much faster, Vista runs much slower on a high end PC. I am fed up with Microsoft OS, i want 2000 USD spent on Vista Ultimate crap-box back.

Short memories... People said the exact same when XP first arrived and stuck with 98SE.

it took them 3 years to release Service Pack one, then Service pack two for XP... 8 years later and they haven't fixed all the bugs with Service Pack 3. Vista is too 'fresh' to be called a stable operating system. Of course, reliable doesn't apply to Microsoft Operating Systems... but there is not much choice right now, not for gaming at least.
XP has seen 10 years of fixes and updates and No one knows for sure what bugs hide in Vista OS yet...
I like Mac OS, but it is not perfect either... they get a few bugs with every update, then new features turn out to be impractical, still we do get updates every week, albeit minor ones.
I am not self confident enough to try something like Linux.
Computer Consumer Industry is young... Software is even younger, let it 100 years and it will be alright.

I just setup my new pc with vista 64, old pc was xp. dual monitor setup. vista does not support horizontal span. This means you can't run full screen using both monitors with vista. My limited research says this is a known limitation to vista, not a bug.
you can get around it by using custom resolutions on my gforce card. currently messing around with 2400x1180 running in windowed mode.

not that my Vista x64 didn't run EvE for me...
it is just that XP runs EvE twice as fast, takes 10 minutes less to load up, can be fixed by the user.
Vista x64 requires digitally signed drivers, has some weird functions, such as application control, data execution prevention... all these features ruin a lot of programs' operation.
Vista needs a lot more and does a lot less... Setting it up is a complete pain, Microsoft needs to release another version or a major revamp.
If it is your first computer, then you might be liking Vista... you must have not tried anything else :P
You will like how your Vista gets demolished by simple viruses - it is even more vulnerable than XP... i know, since i've had it.

Looks more like u dont have the Skills to setup a Vista x64 PC...
My performance is exactly the same as under XP... with much faster loading it only takes 1-2 seconds for a jump etc.
Vista x64 is optimized to work with Multicore CPU¦s 4GB+ RAM etc. also DX10 is a favor for the eyes...
everytime i read ur posts i see the same smacktalking people did as vista was launched...
required WHQL driver... lol?! u can install every driver u want only thing needed is Admin rights...
And... the drivers are nowadays primary produced for vista... every new feature is a vista feature...
i got nearly 14000 points in 3dmark 06 with an OC 3850 512MB...
can run crysis in Ultrahigh mode... eve with 100fps+
and the vista Aero + optmized UI is a favor for everyone who works with his PC... XP is just so 2002...
right it takes a bit longer to set it up but after setting it up right u gonna love it...
every friend of mine i settet up a vista rig love it...
the only thing vista requires is a good pc 2006+ (Dualcore Core2Duo 4xxx+) and 2GB+ better Quadcore and 4gb or more RAM
and this was the same as XP was released... win 98 was faster with old pc¦s but new hardware profits from the new OS...

I buyed a new computer few weeks ago with following spec:
CPU: 2x Intel Xeon Quad Core 5430, Cache 12MB Motherboard: Intel In a Box, Dual Xeon, Model S5000XVN-SATA Chipset: Intel« S5000X (GreenCreek Workstation) Memory: 8 GB FB-DIMM, DDR2-667, ECC, Registred, Kingston KVR667D2D4F5/2G (4x 2GB) Graphic Card: MSI NX8800GTX 768M OC
And to be able to use all 8 Gb of memory i'm using 64 Bit version of Windows Vista Ultimate Edition.
And i have a lot of troubles to run more than one client of eve-online at same time.
With one client i can run eve-online for multiple hours without any trouble, but if i start a second client my machine die with a Blue Screen after a randon time from 1-10 minutes after second client launch.
This crash dosent occour if i use windows XP 32 bits in this machine, sad part are that it see machine with only 3.2 Gb of memory :\
I hope that you have a better luck than me

Since I upgraded from Vista 32bit to 64bit (and from 2gig memory to 6gig) Eve randomly shuts down ... back to desktop w/o any warning or freezing or bluescreen or anything.
Got all the latest drivers installed ... so I guess its something in the Eve Client. Might setup an XP 32bit system on my other hard drive, just for that reason lol.

Mayby you both need the Hotfixes for Vista... there are 3 hotfixes for GeForce cards...
Nvidia is guilty for over 40% of all vista crashes...
there are a few hotfixes to make a GeForce system more stable!
