As to what you said BIG has expanded EVE in interesting directions. But as I noted before it did so entirely for its own benefit. That is 100% fine and cool. EVE as a whole benefitted from what BIG does but it is not altruism that drives BIG.
TornSoul as a CSM candidate is a different matter. While pointing to what you did with BIG is worth noting it is not the whole answer. TornSoul is not a BIG representative in CSM. TornSoul is supposed to be a representative of all the players of EVE on the CSM.
What happens if an idea comes before the CSM to propose to CCP that is contrary to BIG's interests?
As a hypothesis... Say BIG was making most/all of it's ISK from T2 prints.
Say a game change was suggested, that would render T2 prints nearly worthless (comparatively), but would benefit EVE overall.
I'd back it in a hearth beat.
To even have a chance of you believing that, apart from believing that I generally don't go around telling lies , I'd have to tell you a bit about BIG
BIG as a corp is extremely adaptive, we don't put all our egg's in one basket (goes abit against the hypothesis about making most ISK of T2 prints - But follow me here...), so any game change, regardless what CCP might throw at us, would not hurt us much.
And we're the kind of corp that thrives on a challenge, there's simply *so* many ways in EVE to "have your fun"/"make your ISK", that I honestly don't fear ever hitting that "BIG over EVE, or EVE over BIG" dillemma.
Because should it come, I know what I'd choose already.
Yes, I also have a (BIG) obligation towards the well beeing of my corp and it's members as well, but trying to influence EVE simply for the sake of a personal (or proxy via my corp) advantage simply won't happen.
I'm simply not wired that way...
You can believe that or not - It won't change a thing. It's simply how I've always run my (and BIGs) affairs.
The only example I can give of this, that's remotely relevant, is all the times the BIG Lottery have paid out prizes to ingame enemies. Not excactly helping BIG supplying our enemies with ISK is it? It's not the best example, so no reason to knit-pick at it, but it's the best I can think of atm.

I also noted before there are some others running who are equally lacking in this department so I'll have to wait and see (and I do mean to point this out in the CSM candidate thread when I get some time). I know it looks like I am here to bust your balls but that really is not my intent.
Like I said earlier, I'm honestly looking forward to seeing your analysis of the other canditates. So don't worry.

Honestly?
Already answered once in this thread...
But I'll quote...
Originally by: TornSoul
Free trip to Iceland... Tbh it's an inconvinience for me, as, if elected, I'd have to take some days of work. And I've been to Iceland already (FF¦06 & FF¦07) so the free trip is more in the con than the pro category for me unfortunatly.
What I forgot to mention in the above quote, but which is noted on my campaign website, is that I'm also going to FF'08 this year (I assume there'll be a FF'08 ofc )
The free trip to Iceland for CSM members really isn't a lure for me - Due to the timing of it (having to take days of work) And come FF'08, I can easily afford to pay my own way to Iceland (I got a well paid job...) - So *shrug*.

Guys seriously those are damn cheap shots. Not even i would go to those lows. I personally can't imagine for a minute anyone who would go to those lengths to get a free trip to iceland.
The application process, setting up a website, making stuff up to get people to vote you and finally releasing your real name to the whole of eve just for a holiday that you spend with some internet geeks discussing the future of a game of internet spaceships? Alrighty... get a grip!

And when I say "give incentive" I dont only mean positive incentives... Sometimes you need to "force" (or rather coerce) certain groups of peoples behavior, in order to obtain whats best for all in the long run.[/quote
I don't like PVP. Can't stand it. I have no skill at PVP and have no desire whatsoever to spend my game time practising or doing something I don['t want to do. I don't take the death of my character well, even at the hands of NPCs, never mind griefers & gankers. (My average at the moment is 1 death every 3.5 jumps in low sec, based on 4 griefer deaths to date.)
Yes, I am an Empire carebear - I like running missions, I like killing NPCs and building standings and skills (33 mil SPs and counting). Sometimes I even like mining, trade, and industry as well. There are a lot of us Empire players about, but we rarely pipe up on boards because of the inevitable flames.
The moment I am forced out of high sec 'for my own good' is the moment I cancel my subscription. |

And nothing wrong with that what so ever. And I definatly would not want to force you to live your life in EVE differently.
As I said :
Originally by: TornSoul be able to have a living to your liking in other parts of EVE
Notice the orange bits from in the two quotes above?
The only thing that's "wrong" with "empire carebears" is the word "empire", ie. the location. In my opinion it should be possible to have the sort of living you describe in "other parts of EVE" as well!
That's the point I was trying to make.
-----
To further clarify, I don't mean to get rid of 0.0, and have "empire" all over EVE. But I would like to see a better distribution of people in EVE in general, and believe having "pockets" (for lack of a better word) of non 0.0 in other parts of EVE than whats currently refered to as "empire" would be one way of achieving this.
It'll require a major re-structuring of EVE as we know it today to make this happen, so I'm honestly not very optimistic with regards to it happening. However factional warfare *just might* be a tool that could be used to move towards this goal. Note that factional warfare doesnt necessarily have to be all PvP oriented. Running missions, or clearing out (NPC) pirates etc. for a faction is also a way to "serve" your chosen faction.
And who knows, this just might give you "empire safety" in that factions area - Meaning you'd no longer be restricted to just empire to live the life you prefer in EVE.
(all of the above about factional warfare is pure speculation of course, and just my view on how it *could* be used as a tool towards this goal)
It's all about "The BIG picture".

as this seems to be your [CSM Candidate:Torn Soul] post...
I have several questions, and taking a page out of Talkuth RelĘs book, I decided to ask each candidate in their own threadą
1) Invention ū A good idea that still needs worką a. Have you ever tried invention? b. What ideas do you have to improve invention?
2) Pilot Security Level ū Should it be more important? a. (In High Sec) ū Should Concord react faster if the victim has a higher security level? If the attacker has a lower rating? b. Should the Security Level of a system affect changes to Pilot Security level changes? c. Should the Security Level of a Targeted Pilot have more of an effect on the security change of the attacker?
3) Industry ū The Creators of Eve a. Do you regularly build anything? b. Do you regularly mine? c. What do you think could be done to improve industry in Eve? d. You have been asked to help with new ships for industrial characters, describe a few ideasą

Edited by: TornSoul on 03/05/2008 20:38:22 1a: Nope, I personally haven't tried my hand at it. Doesnt mean I dont know about it and how it works
1b: I basically agree with your "headline" : "A good idea that still needs work..." Currently I think the system works pretty smoothly. One can always argue for/against tweaking various parameters of the process (time/cost/print stats)
But overall I'm not aware of any issues that are dramatically skewed, and as such it's rather low on my list of "things to improve".
2a: Yes on both accounts. I think that would be a nice addition, that I would back. As with invention however, it's currently not really a major issue that needs adressing...
2b: As 2a.
2c: I dont know if "more" is the correct way of putting it. But some sort of combination of the two would be nice. Face it, in RL some targets of crimes changes peoples view of the agressor (sec rate) differently than others.
But again... Not really high on the list of things that needs fixing...
2d: I'd also like to see that people can have "individual system security" in a given system (not quite sure how to label this though - Read on)
By that I mean, If you work hard for a given faction (increase standing) they would be more likely to come to your help in their home region. This ofc requires all sorts of other changes. Just thought I'd put it out there as well - As it's in line with your other questions
3a: Nope (I have people doing that )
3b: Nope (I have people doing that )
3c: Boy... Thats a BIG, BIG can of worms. Lots and lots and lots can be done (and should be done) It's a *very* broad question to ask, and as such I really cant give a full answer. Where to start... - The whole POS/moon mining (inluding distribution of moon materials) needs looking at - Mineral price cap needs (more) looking at - Transportation needs looking at - Ore distribution / re-growth needs looking at (this is more specifically about mining, but that influences industry as well) - Insurrance needs looking at (again a special area, but influences industry as well)
The list simply goes on and on...
I think you need to narrow down the question a bit - It's simply to broad (at least for someone thinking of "The BIG Picture )
3d: Hmmm.... Nothing really groundbreaking springs to mind... Perhaps some improved transport ships... (would then need to be nerfed in other aspects...)

You might have my votes, I don't know many of the other candidates, but the way you valiantly used to moderate the FA yawnfests (I mean weekly meetings) on IRC remains strong in my mind. As I remember you were always willing to listen to all sides of an argument and made your mind up based on evidence and information put forward, and I think that might be good for a CSM representative, not too hasty to make decisions.

Edited by: Archa on 10/05/2008 21:12:53 Tornsoul surely has my vote. Big has been around in eve since BETA and they have always tried to improve the eve universe.
Visable examples are the Big lottery and Big bank.
I still get payouts from my bigbank shares and that is after 2 years? all other share oppertunies are long gone.
If Tornsoul can keep some bankloan thing running for 2 years in a row, he can defeatnely take on this role.
Big corp is one of few corps in this game that made a difference and tornsoul has always been in the middle of BIG.
Good luck tornsoul, you have my 3 votes.

@Drahcir Nasom
You pretty much nailed my philosophy on most things in that one sentence.
"As I remember you were always willing to listen to all sides of an argument and made your mind up based on evidence and information put forward, and I think that might be good for a CSM representative, not too hasty to make decisions."
Quite an accomplishment really
And yeah - It did indeed come in extremely handy at them FA meetings
@Baun You gotta come to CPH one day again - You know we have the good beer afterall
@Archa "Big has been around in eve since BETA and they have always tried to improve the eve universe."
We try - One bit at a time But yes - That's part of the BIG Picture. Trying to add to and improve EVE for everyone, as that'll benefit all in the end.
(Re: BMBE : Dont forget Ray McCormack! )
