I love the fact that in empire the gates are patrolled by cops and customs ships. This certainly lends a hand to the feeling that there's someone out there. If you listen closely you can sometimes hear radio traffic. That's all cool
However...
There's those ad jumbo trons out there floating and it strikes me that while at first kinda cool, they now strike me as totally inadequete given the back story. Shouldn't these areas be crawling with advertising? I mean the gates are the equivalent of busy highway intersections right? Especially in Gallente, these areas should full of these ads and resemble Times square a la Bladerunner-like.
And if the ads were actually real, like I could take out an ad for my corp etc. than now we're talkin.
Finally a question? If there's customs agents and cops flying around gates should I not be spot checked for contraband? I know that I'm warned if I undock with contraband and I was kinda excited at the prospect of being pulled over by concord and searched. Why does this never happen? Why are there customs agents when I'm never charged customs? I know I'm asking for a level of detail that may seem ridiculous but I really like the Eve backstory and any little trick to convince me there's more going on than just flying around in a ship would go a long way.

signed, signed and signed again. I would definitely endorse this, especially being able to put out signs for your corp, or heres an even better idea, make a deployable sign so people stop can spamming to write messages. I like this idea, I like it a lot. Please visit your user settings to re-enable images.

That is an AWESOME idea.
Instead of a silly little billboard, have a massive projection of Quafe ads, corp recruitment blurbs, whatever. (If you report a spam ad, the corp loses the ad and gets reported when the GM removes it.)
CCP gets an ISK sink.
Corps get advertisement.
Outlaws get infamy.
All for the cost of programming and streaming pictures to clients. Text would be easy, small GIFs only slightly more so.

Heck, even CLICKABLE ads, for contracts, or corp info. A right-click or circle menu thing.
Click it, select "view ad" and up pops the corp info, or contract, or info on the bountied player...

I work in the gaming industry (and advertising) and one of the recent seminars I attended was 'real' advertising in games. The sports games have already started doing this. All those ads you see in the stadiums. Those have been payed for and deployed by region by real advertisers. MMOG ads are next frontier but a game like EVE could really have some fun with this (and make money too) by combining real ads form selected game appropriate advertisers such as 'steam' or 'say no to drugs' kinds of campaigns with player driven advertising as well. Voila! you've got an immersed experience, the feeling of backstory and CCP perhaps can make a few coins on the side.
It ain't that far fetched.

This is a really good idea. There are a number of immersion improvements they could make, and this would be a big one.
I can see Caldari and Gallente space particularly filled with this, Amarr less so (unless it's religious slogans) and the Minmatar...well, they can't read, so we'd need to put up pretty pictures only for them

good idea tbh... but might be kinda interesting when orbiting at 500 (or tryiong to decloak a covops by spamming the system gate with bilboards then camping it....
how would you filter language or offensive pictures if player driven and deployable?
though i like the idea of it in high sec aroudn main hubs....

Hey! We can read! We just consult the bones first and then write it out with primitive runes. Anyway, back on topic, Mimatar's can advertise tattoo parlours. Or maybe honest Akbar's Nomadic Yurt Deals will now have an intergalactic advertising medium.

Considering the weight of commercials in modern day life. The amounts of Money earned through it and the manipulation of the mind of masses by means of 'commercial advertising' ... yeah... it's weird there is so few annoying sh*t in eve. :P

Funny. But if you are serious, my advise is move to 0.0, you wont have the problem of finding entertainment between jumps.
Personally, i fly through high sec on autopilot or look for war targets. I don't need some noob corp advertising how they will teach me how to become a perfect carebear and some stupid AI attempting to contract for garbage hauling. Meanwhile, I cant tell whats going on because all the war targets are blending in with your your colorful advertisements and i get 'take a tour of our galaxy' messages appearing on my screen just as i am being decloaked.

Excellent idea! I was in Seoul plaza last weekend, big screens on the sides of every building. Imagine what another 20,000 years will do for advertising. I suppose this could be brought in along with ambulation, since there are supposed to be lots of new business opportunities there (including your tattoo parlours!).

Bigger billboards close to docks and gates, where you can rent advertising space for your corp or alliance, much like it is now only not restricted to global events and news - perhaps displaying local outlaws who earned the constallation top bounty in lowsec

Can you engage billboards in highsec without concord intervention? All I need is 125KM range to be safe from the sentries right? ç¦ |

The point i am trying to make is that gates are used by 2 types of people; those that have a need to read advertisements and those that occupy their time in other ways. Please keep gates clear of unnecessary destructions to a minimal. For example, give us ability to disable 'advertising'.

Not everyone is in this game to ice the other guy. My suggestion was merely to improve the immersion experience and support the back story. Half the game to me is the eye candy. Besides, one does not have to look at a billboard if one does not want to. I'd also envision this to mean that the uber billboards would be in high sec empire while the low sec areas not at all the lower you go. Who wants to pay the billboard repair man the danger pay to go into low sec to change a light bulb.

Then you would have to allow your "war targets" to disable pvp because they don't want to occupy their time in that way ----------------- Think of someone you consider of average intelligence... now realise this. Half the worlds population is dumber than that person. How does the world survive such stupidity? |

After 20 thousand years of living with advertising, most people should realistically have cheap implants that automatically filter all of it out. Or perhaps more commonly, filtering everything out except for a few whitelisted topics, such as cheap exotic dancers, happy hour at bars, and maybe discounted blasters?

I think the part that annoys me the most about EVE is lack of eye candy.
Oh, and having to read lore. I don't like reading on-screen. Reading is for paper books (or handheld ebook readers when they reach a decent display resolution), not for monitors. It'd be fun to get all lore read aloud.
But back to eye candy. There almost isn't any. CCP should do something about that.
