So I've just taken my laundry out, and found my new mobile phone, in pieces (battery, cover, etc) in amongst the clothes.
A quick Google revealed that immersing it in dry rice would be a good choice.
Has anyone else ever done this and fixed the problem?

Edited by: syphurous on 07/04/2008 02:22:24 I washed one of my old cellphones in the washing machine once.
Mate rang me up and asked why I wasn't answering my cell phone. I dropped the phone and ran into laundry and pulled my glowing ( backlight ) buzzin ( vibrater ) screeching ( Speaker ) phone out of the pants pocket I had left it in.
I immediatly pulled it to pieces and got a fine screw driver to pull the board away from the casing. And laid all the elements out and used a hair dryer to get all the moisture off them.
It sat in the hot water cupboard for about 4 weeks, over that period I would assemble it and test it out, charging the battery only a little before testing.
It still works, how ever I upgraded to a new shiny flip phone.
Luckily at the time I still had the old phone from before it stored away and just taped it back together ( broken aerial ) and used it for the month. Please visit your user settings to re-enable images.

LOL...
rice has very good absorbing characteristics. put a few grains of rice into a jar of salt and it (= the salt) will not get hard and lumpy. so getting water out of a phone will work. if the phone will work after the water is gone... maybe. the washing process uses temperature and washing stuff. and the it gets centrifuged... if i was a phone i would make some objections... Edited by: Gaiam on 07/04/2008 21:31:29 soak it in 99% isopropyl for like 5-10 minutes, it will drive the water out and when it drys it should work. make sure its totally dry before putting the battery back in. like give it a few hours in a nice warm spot.
i mean fully submerge the phone as well, not the battery.

while rice is good at draining moisture out of its surroundings thats not why you put your washed phone in.
your cell has a heavy trauma now, and putting it into rice will make it feel at home and comfortable, and thus its healing process will be quicker.
on a little sidenote, i only tend to wash my usb sticks. works fine ;)

I wouldnt go that far, but hitting it with a hair dryer and letting it sit for a day or two...you might bring it back from the dead....seriously I have saved laptops this way.
If the phone is toast, then get a GShock, that phone will survive the washer and the dryer I **** you not! _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped. depends on how long u have now left it, dont put the battery back on., put it in a warm and dry location, central heating tank, boiler, airing cupboard and let sit for a few days or over night at least (and make sure its on)
works with most electrical, done it for ,own laptop when a beer attacked it, and for several mobiles.

I accidentally put my phone in a chocolate pudding cup. I ran inside with it, dissambled and cleaned with a q-tip. Then let it sit for two days. It worked thankfully and smelled chocolatey for the rest of the time I had it.

Leave it in a dry place for a few days, dont heat it beyond 30 - 40 degrees (celcius) for any extended period of time though, let it dry in peace. Re-assemble and it should work again, more likely so if it was turned off when it got bathed.

I had to vacate a smelly drip from a friends place, put it in my pocket till I got down to the car, or so I thought. The day after the dip had leaked out into the pocket and soaked my Mp3 player which smellt south of cheese and never recovered.
