Edited by: UrsaeMajoris on 07/04/2008 04:40:08 Building a new computer so I can finally play EVE with trinity graphics. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I don't know where else to turn. I apologise in advance.
-Intel Q6600 2.4ghz quad core -2x2gig Geil 5-5-5-15 DDR2 ram -ABIT IP35-PRO motherboard -XFX GeForce 9800GTX XXX PCI-E 512MB -Antec ATX TruePower 650W TRio PSU OS will be Windows XP professional
Taking into account the display being used will be a 22" LCD with a maximum resolution of 1680x1050. Will this setup thus be able to run 3-5 instances of EVE simultaneously with Trinity graphics on max settings (not including Anti-aliasing)? I was thinking of maybe of having to add another 4 gigs of ram and upgrading to Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Or instead I should get an 8800 Ultra?
Lastly, what more on this setup would it take to run at least 3-instances of EVE and another game like Counter-Strike: Source? I run my instances windowed so the resolution displayed on each game will most likely be 1280x1024. Please, serious posts only, I don't want to hear why you think it's a bad idea to multitask 5 instances of EVE etc or "It'll take a $10000 system to run that!". Maybe I'd need a 9800GX2 for that last part?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Money is an object - so I can't really do something as massive as Quad SLI twin 9800GX2s, and I'm sure I wouldnt need such a powerful system to do what I asked.

Edited by: Lirezh on 07/04/2008 08:51:16 Your PSU as well as your motherboard are not relevant at all.
You will be able to run 1 eve premium graphics, and one with the classic engine. You can try running 2 classic + 1 premium but i bet you'll hit the framerate.
Especially windows does a bad job at multitasking, i'd suggest you a 2nd computer for more clients.
About the poster before me: you run them with premium or classic ^^ ?

I run 2 clients with premium on 2 screens windowed mode (22" 1600x900 - 17" 1280x...don't remember) both full details and effects without any problem with about the same setup as the second poster.
Note that the second screen is making a difference as if you open 2 clients on the same screen, you will indeed run into issues. But otherwise, his setup should be quite enough to forget what "classic" was and have 2 clients minimum. As for 3 or more... might as well just try it

I helped assemble a similar but lower end computer for a friend of mine - only difference is that it had 2 gigs of ram and and an 8800 GTX card. I've used his computer often and it is able to run 3 instances of EVE with trinity graphics at maximum detail, each windowed at a resolution of 1440x960 with max settings. It can run 4 instances smoothly too but that number has yet to be tested out in full combat. I'm not sure how you are underestimating the performance of the setups I've specified but you can rest assured, these are well above running 3 instances of trinity just fine.
Yes the PSU has no relevance to the performance of the computer but I put it there anyway in case someone would point out I didn't need that many watts to run the computer. Specifying the motherboard was to possibly get some feedback from users who have it already.
So anyway, we tried running the 3 instances of EVE along with Counter-Strike: Source simultaneously but the FPS was so horrible that all games were unplayable. Now since my setup will be at least 2 gigs of ram faster (not to mention my CPU will be the G0 stepping for overclockability as opposed to my friend's computer lacking that version) and I'll have a card that is more or less equal to the 8800 GTX, I'm hoping I'll be able to run 3 EVEs and 1 CSS at once.
Maybe someone here can tell me what it is I need more of to do this, more ram, a GX2 card maybe?
BTW: Sorry Lirezh, I accidentally clicked the button at the top right thinking it was "Reply" but it was actually "Report", I apologise if I've caused anyone any inconvinience.

I had that crap installed. Suffice it to say: consider it a downgrade, not an upgrade.
Windows 2008 Server now. Performance is around +30% than all the Vista crap, and still around 15% more than XP. "server", yes, but using it as a desktop, puts XP into shame. Seems 2008 is finally something good coming out of MS and their "Vista backend core".

I run 5-6 instances of the classic client @ 1280x1024 on a similar system but with a lower series graphics card. Mind you only 2-3 of them end up ontop at once, should be no problem with 3 of them. Dunno about the premium eve client as the performcance is more important to me when running that many instances :p
