Anytime I try to bump somebody I go right through them.
Did CCP nerf bumping?

Bumping works as intended. Desynchs though, tend to happen more frequently.

Post with your main!
Also, how is "as intended" supposed to work?
Ship 1 approaches ship 2 and passes through it, as opposed to bumping it, on a 0 transversal.
That should result in a bump, but it does not.

I'll post with whatever character I feel like, thank you very much.
Also, I bumped ships with an inty as late as yesterday night (which is hard enough to correctly do considering the very small bounding box of an inty), so unless they hotpatched the game overnight, you are drunk.
My comment about desynch is that as soon as you start your MWD these days you seem to desynch, so, you're probably desynched and that's why your bumps don't work.
Dock or restart your client and it should be working, until next time you desynch.

Okay mister "works as intended," I had 4 different corp members test this out before I posted here. We even DID relog to make sure this worked.
So, I challenge you to go out right now in an interceptor and attempt to bump a battleship. Tell me if it works.
If it works and you fraps it I'll sit corrected. Otherwise, I'm right and CCP nerfed bumping.

Edited by: Bistot Kid on 07/04/2008 09:15:02 So you asked "Did CCP nerf bumping?" Then you tell people who tell you the answer, "no", that they are wrong.
If CCP took out collsion detection, these forums would be alight. These forums are not alight.
QED. Or more colloquially ... "Go figure".

I have no problem with bumping other ships.
But since you are rather vague on what you actually tried to accomplish my understanding of bumping differs from yours.

You are experiencing desync. It happens a lot when you bump, and I mean a lot. What happens is after you bump a few times either the server or something gets confused and you are not where your screen tells you, it is very strange.
My last great desynch was when I bumped this guy 20km+ off station and then set orbit @16km, yadda yadda, but then I kept going farther and farther away. My medium autocannons could still hit @55km (lolol) until I lost lock due to locking range. Took about a minute for everything to line up back again.
It is so easily replicated by bumping repeatedly that I am completely lost to why it isn't fixed.

Haha I recognize this. I bumped a Shadow Serp BS like 60km with my vaga by mistake, and after killing it I was like "wtf? where is my wreck?"
Turns out it spawned 50 km off from where I supposedly killed it. :P

Slightly off topic, but I still don't get how a small frigate "bumps" a freighter for example, it should go splat like you would expect from a fly hitting the windscreen of a truck, maybe bumping should be balanced/nerfed a little.

I bumped BSs (and lots of other things) with my inty yesterday night (12hrs ago), so I think that's sufficient evidence for myself to believe bumping works "as intended".
Maybe you have misunderstood how to bump? You will just fly through ships that undock until their undock timer is out (30secs). After that they become real objects in space that you can bump.
The other plausible reason it doesn't work, is that you're trying to approach wrongly. Fail-safe bumping is done by use of the approach and keep at range buttons and getting a decent line of movement as well as distance (20+km) towards the ship - if the other ship is moving, you often miss it.

I think its that you just fail at bumping and at life.(jk)((or am i?))
Also a lil tip when trying to bump someone the best bet is to once ur inline for the bump hit the full speed button. Works aswell when the target is moving just make sure u hit the full speed button half a second before you collide with said person about too be ganked.

If it went 'splat' I'd expect some damage from, you know, all the highly explosive stuff on a frig + high speed impact, etc, which would make it *really* fun literally suiciding haulers in a Rifter ;)

I woudnt miss bumping if they removed it seem a strange game mechanic to ram a ship over and over again with no damage to anyone, yet you can move the ship you hit to stop it from warping. They have a game mechanic to stop warping this one shoudnt be around, but thats just a personal opinion.

Are you trying to push someone off of the undock point? IIRC, you cannot bump while they have undock invulnerability.

Edited by: Siigari Kitawa on 07/04/2008 12:10:24 No, I was trying to bump my freighter pilot.
Basically here's what happened:
Freighter (Obelisk) jumped into system, I attempted to web into warp. It failed (wtf, right). So I unwebbed and waited for about 5 seconds, then webbed again (her speed was at 35m/s). Fail.
Now I'm in a hurry because there's a Phobos inbound. So I back up, stop my ship completely, then go full-throttle into her rear. I went RIGHT THROUGH HER.
A freighter doesn't even go that fast. Considering I was stopped and she was moving like, 50m/s, I was expecting a bump to knock her into warp. Nope, I wound up on the other side of her.
So... that's where this came from. Notice also that there have been other times recently where I have attempted bumping and it has failed too. We tested it a bit before downtime and I was having issues bumping my corpmates around.
Sort of odd.

Yea, something is wrong with bumping at times, you pass right through the targeted ship

Bump a ship whilst it is still in its invunerable undocking phase, and you will pass right through it
Bump a ship whilst desynched and you will pass right through it
Bump a ship ever now and then you will pass right through it for no reason.
It was mooted in another thread that the prescence of a corpse near where the bump was gogin to take place somehow borked the bump (as you can fly throug corpses). I havent tested this though.
