So I was selling a Snake Epsilon in Jita earlier this afternoon, and ran across an awesome new exploit you guys might want to watch out for.
Guy convos me and says he wants to buy, trade window opens and 560,000,000ISK shows up under money offered. I put the implant in and hit accept, check mark shows up. At this point, the window is showing 560,000,000, implant, and check mark.
Next thing I know, the price drops to 560,000, check mark is still there, and trade goes through.
The only thing I can figure is that the lag in Jita lets the unscrupulous scammer update his price on the server, and I clicked accept in between the time it was updated on the server and my client.
I petitioned it, but I'm expecting the usual "lol, sucks to be you" reply from CCP.
Watch your asses, use contracts, the only way around this is to hope that your timing is luckier than his.

It's a known exploit and subject to an immediate ban. You should get your implant back pretty quickly.

Not a new exploit, and classified as exploit iirc. Petition it, you should get it back, and the guy banned. -- My Sig got pwnt by Cortes :( |

Aww, Draken Hunt....
First of all posting Exploits on forums is a bad idea.
Second, this is not new
Third, why would you do a direct trade?
Fourth, what are you doing these days, I haven't talked to you in a while? :P
Fifth, I think CCP deemed this an exploit, and announced it as such a while ago.

Edited by: Dirk Magnum on 07/04/2008 23:04:07 Why are trades even still in the game, when contracts are so easy to make? I was selling some faction mod once in Jita and this person was offering me a good 40 mil or so for it, but refused to accept it through contracts, and kept insisting on using the trade window. I sensed something was suspicious about that and moved along to the next customer. Please visit your user settings to re-enable images. |

hehe, someone tried to do this to me the other day, a lot of the people who tries to scam all seem to fall into about the same catagory.
1. They reside in or near Jita. 2. They don't have the guts to face up to what they're doing and will likely dive out the conversation early, or generally try and send you a contract or open a trade first without beginning a conversation.

This is not possible. If the amount changed the check mark goes off.

Edited by: Draken Hunt on 08/04/2008 03:16:58 You can think I'm lying if you want to, and if the GMs decide not to reimburse than oh well, it's what I get for trying to avoid the market/contract sales tax.
However, I'm not, I accepted on 560,000,000, and watched 3 zeroes drop off after I accepted, I started frantically spamming the cancel button, but to no avail.

If the amount of isk is changed once the other party has hit accept the accept is canceled no amount of lag can change that.

Depending on how it's coded, lag could most definately change that.
I'm not going to go into details, but if I was coding a trade system, for ease of coding I would probably do it in a way that massive lag could negatively influence. IE. One player changes somthing and clicks accept, server registers that accept. The other player, whose client hasn't yet been updated to the change clicks accept, the server registers the second. Server reads 2 "accept" clicks and the trade is completed.
But whatever, I'm sure you're right, and that you're actually a dev alt who coded the trade system and know how the client handshakes with the server, right?

try it, try to change the amount of isk after the other party has hit accept. fraps the results.

Actually, he would've had to change it right *before* I hit accept, as if his client had registered the accept it wouldn't work.
Basically, it's lucky timing on their part, that the server registers their accept and I hit accept before it updates my client.
The key here is that my client had not updated when I hit accept.
Also, I have to ask, what about THIS thread made you drag out the alt you havn't used since 2006? Abuse bugs much?

If someone used an exploit on you then that's unfortunate but I have to ask, is 10k isk really too much of a fee to set up a contract for?
.... sig goes here!

You still have to pay a % fee for contracts, I was trying to save 8 mil or so. On the plus side, I didn't have pay any sales tax!
