Okay.. Maybe this isn't the right place for this thread, but the best I could see. I started a new account via "Steam". Built a new character, was having lots of fun. Then, amazingly to me the account ended even though I had plenty of money on my card. Humm I thought to myself and brought up eve-online to renew the account. Under the account it said "30 day steam cd-key account". Which I payed for.. but I thought well maybe after the first 30 days I have to go through ccp directly. Opened account info for subscription.. went through the whole credit card ordeal and click the "yes take my money" button. It came up with an error in red letters. Now mind you I have another account not through "Steam" that is still up, and working fine. I think going through Steam for an eve account is a mistake. 1. it wants to run in the background. 2. you have to turn it off forcibly with the task manager if you want it off after you load eve. 3. I cant seem to reactivate my account because I used friggan STEAM!
Steam bad.

Yeah, i have seen a couple threads around complaining of the same issue. End result is...use CCP (the official organization running EvE). You still get a free 14-day trial, so its not all bad. Please visit your user settings to re-enable images. Faction Store |

I'm pretty bummed though. Just got my battlecruisers learned. Not sure I want to do this all over again. Wouldn't really call it a good selling point for Eve.

It seems like a good idea, however I would always say go with the actual company that hosts the game.

Try going to your steam "my games" list, right click on eve and go to properties. Then go to the "Visit EVE online account web site". Then go to the existing eve user button and enter in your info, should be able to renew it after you do that.
Also, you can delete EVE off steam and never use it to run it if you don't like having the steam app running in the background.

I had tried to go through the Steam/Eve account initially but it kept refreshing the same page not going anywhere. Thats why I thought maybe I had to go to ccp directly but to no avail. Three cheers for Eve GM's! I made a petition about the problem and they promptly fixed it. Apparently there's an account info glitch that they adjusted so I can re-open my account. Thank you!!

Glad you got it fixed. I personally HATE Steam, especially on my Vista box. Buggy piece of junk IMO.

Thanks for the heads up on the glitch. I was getting ready to start up a trial on steam for my son, as he has been showing some interest in EVE lately and was going to use steam to get the longer trial period. Now that I know about the steam problems I think he can make due with a 14 day trial

I've been using steam to pay counter-strike for a few years now and let me tell you:
If you can avoid using steam at all costs, DO IT! Steam has got to be the worst POS software out there to host games on... Especially those that can be played single-player.

no no just go through steam to make the account
then download the cilnet form here on the eve site.
21 days of free time.
