Just what it says, is this skill worth training and what priority should it have? It is low on my list at the moment, and I am thinking of removing it all together.

The energy pulse weapons, aka "Smart Bombs" (SB) are Point-Blank Area Effect (PBAE) weapons. Within a relatively short distance (I want to say 5k, as I don't equip/use them all that often), the deal damage to all targets, friendly or hostile. This is why it's generally not a good idea to use them in highsec, since you may damage someone that will result in CONCORD spanking your butt.
Now, that being said, there are two main uses I've heard of for them.
1) Gate camps to get smaller ships and pods. A battleship, typically a Rokh or Armageddon, has 8 large SBs equipped and cycles them all at once. This does enough damage to kill pretty much and frigate or low HP vessel, and get the pod, as well. If done in highsec, you will lose your ship to CONCORD.
2) Equip one, maybe two small or medium SBs on a cruiser or BC for anti-drone defense. This way, you don't have to worry about targeting them, you simply cycle the SB(s) until the drones are dead. |

Anti: drones, missiles, bombs, warp disruption probes Often used on carriers, otherwise not so much. |

Useful for: Nullsec PVE (on carriers or certain battleships) for clearing frigs / cruisers in static spawns at point blank General PVP (on battleships with either 2x webs or warpstabs) for killing frigates by baiting them to smartbomb range. A 4-warpstabbed faction smartbomb battleship is fairly useful if you find out how and where to use it :) |

They are basicly not used in high sec at all, and rarly else where.
You cant activate them too close to certian things in space, for example you cant let one off wihtin5km of a station or stargate |

They are used on Carriers/Supers fairly regularly along side Nuets, Faction Large generally reach to 7.5k, T2 Large to 5k, Also good for clearing off drones from Logistics (God Damn EC-300s)
I believe you also need the skill to V for Doomsdays.
Also, Disco BS are a fairly hilarious answer to Frig Swarms.
They used to be used on Scorps etc in something called a Firewall, where basically they would make a wall of Smartbombing to eliminate missiles before they hit there target, as far as Im aware this no longer works as Missiles are no longer Physical objects. |

I see them used a lot on logis a lot, since such ships tend be swarmed by ECM drones on a regular basis. Caps frequently use smartbombs as well for drone / missile defense.
Once in a while a firewall fleet will use them for anti-missile defense.
One of my favorite lol things to do is load up a battleship with 8 large smartbombs and as many stabs as I can strap on and go looking for roaming frig gangs. This obviously isn't a regular occurrence. My killboard - http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/combat_record.php?type=player&name=Kessiaan |

I used to use a couple of them on a Moa for clearing the Guristas 3/10 DED plex. Those frigates swarm just close enough. The trouble of course if anyone warps in and approaches you, you get CONCORDed. |

The only time I really every put SBs on a ship is while flying a scorp. In the beginning I used to put some kind of weapons on it (cruise/torp) but I usually have enough just to keep people jammed without worrying about a dribble of DPS. I also noticed that I was attracting just about every drone on the battlefield especially ECM drones loved me for some reason... but one rack blast of the smartbombs soloved that problem quickly and efficiently :)
Since then I never fly scorps without smartbombs :D |

Look for a gate with a decent amount of activity preferably lowsec. Fit a Rokh or any decent BS with smart bombs and sit on said gate. Watch out for frigs, shuttles and pods as they warp in, Pulse smart bombs... profit? |

Well, if they are not physical objects then what are they? All I know is my torps seem to die from bombs(bomber) with no troubles. |

Still works.
That stunt was pulled on us from a carriers I know, who'd a thunk it, -A- using a heavy missile fleet. |

I fit one on my Paladin for L4 Missions. Great for killing the scram/web mission drones. I use a faction SB since it gives a 7500m area of effect. Just make sure your own drones are either in bay or outside that range. |

I fit them to jamming ships actually, it's not like you're there for your damage potential and often the first and biggest threat is that someone gets a lock and gets drones on you before they are jammed. Smartbomb clears them off and lets you stay on grid. |

I had a friend that did that with his Scorpion.... he ended up banned from high sec when he got attacked by a bunch of close range frigates.

Huh, firewalls still work, did not know that, however no they are not physical objects in space anymore , they are simply an effect backed up by a calculation of damage, akin to the other classes of weapon in the game.
