And the fact that I, for some ungodly reason, can not catch a wink of sleep tonight, I figure I'll write up a short blurb that will probably get me called a fanboy.
In my time as a gamer, I have played more MMO's than most people on this board probably know exist. Ranging from very early MUDs to the modern grind-fest Korean cookie-cutters everyone seems so fond of, I've (nearly) played them all. And I have to admit, post-beta EVE just didn't impress me at all. So you'll understand my skepticism when a friend of mine from college got on MSN a little over a year ago and told my bored lazy rear to download EVE. Eventually I did.
And you know what? It was, and is, bloody brilliant. I have to congratulate CCP on taking that lump of...game that EVE used to be and molding it into the only game that's ever held my interest for an entire year. I certainly don't agree with everything you do. I even find some aspects of the game utterly irritating. But as a whole, you've made one hell of a game guys, and I tip my hat to you.
And of course we can't forget the obligatory demand that every forum thread requires: Fix my UI! We need this. Badly. |

Edited by: Hasak Rain on 13/04/2008 11:13:07 This is quite a contrast to all the whining that the jaded vets do about how the game "was so much better in 2004".....rabble, rabble.
People are also convinced that bringing up an issue here and whining about it is "a vote" towards getting their way and actually seeing whatever they are moaning about being put into/taken out of the game.
Maybe I am being naive but I really believe the devs have more common sense than that and don't make changes based upon a bunch of forum lifers {and their multiple alts} crying about it. If they did, consensual pvp would have been put in a long time ago.
The Devs will make changes which brings in the most customers period but I think there is a line in which they won't cross where this game will nver become another WoW clone no matter how much the crybabies insist that the game is being dumbed down.

I'd agree with you. Alot of what I 'hated' I stopped trying to change and just gave a try. It has made me far more destructive and I don't know if that's a good thing but it is somewhat fun. Alot of stuff, I simply can't bring myself to do. I have kill rights on a guy and poof, there he is in an Indy.. I couldn't pop him. It just didn't feel right to pop an Indy. But the willingness to bust up a gate camp or put the run to a red is a much bigger part of my game now than what it was.
Eve is unique. I have always said that. |

Edited by: Trathen on 13/04/2008 11:33:11 I agree with you but I have to say your experience in gaming would make you a rule rather than an exception.
I'm beginning to notice one of the large "problems" (I am using this term very loosely) with EvE is that it bears resemblance to what a certain artist called "Muso Music" (in reference to Muso Awards). That is to say this "Muso Music" can be very technically proficient but doesn't necessarily appeal to the untrained ear. In the same vein, I think anyone who has played enough games in general can appreciate just how brilliant EvE's game design is. The truly casual gamer, however, just finds it boring. Hence the phrase, "goback2wow."

I agree CCP have done an amazing job. The thing is people are never satisfied with what they have. The reason there are so many whines is because there are no other eve like games to go to and they know it

I could. I could for instance say that the community makes up for all the small annoying things in the game, and that getting to talk to so many different people and helping them with stuff is the most worthwhile and fun thing.
But really, thats just cheesy to say!
