I noticed many guys pick female avatars and feminine names to go with them. Why do you guys do this?
Don't give me the lame excuse of I don't want to stare at a guy's face or it doesn't matter. When you choose a character's sex it's permanent. You can't change the sex character or even the name.
Do you regret choosing your name or gender?

I didn't realize at the time that I could minimize my character on screen, and only look at the face on the forums.

Ed: But no, I have no particular desire to change my character's sex to male or whatever. I don't really regret making "her" female. It's not like people are trying to gender swap in the days of Ventrilo. -- Naturally, I do not in any way speak for my corp or alliance. |

The only problem is people who think theres something wrong with it or people who judge males who pick female characters. I personally chose female characters because I like them I see them as a person that I have a bond with. It's as simple as that really. It's like what do you think when you look at your character? I don't feel a bond with my male characters I don't really like them much but with my female characters I really like them I care about them. I know that probably sounds strange but that's just the way it is.

Edited by: sg3s on 15/04/2008 00:08:28 yep, being Achura is definitly an excuse to choose a female, even if you are male.
I can remember one of the devs saying that "half of us" choose female avatars... And having that said, both my alts are female.

Edited by: Isobe Mitsu on 15/04/2008 00:15:48 Also I chose the female name for my female characters because it suits them and adds to their character and personality. And think about games where the main character is female like Tomb Raider it's similar to that except with Tomb raider you don't have a choice, the thing is it really bothers me when people judge guys who play female chars it really does bother me because theres nothing wrong with it.

A mate of mine once said he played females in MMO's, DAoC, because if he had to look at an arse all day it may as well be female. After he told me that I started playing female characters.
Now I know it doesn't count in EVE but I still do it. And no I do not regret either of the characters I use daily (both female).

I created mine as a paper topic.
I looked at genders of avatars in MMORPGs, and somewhat unsurprisingly equally skilled and identically equipped female avatars tended to get more guild invites and free stuff than their male counterparts.

There's other reasons too like the lame excuse you mentioned and the character creation process, you're making the character you mess around with the different options you find one you like and you want to preserve your creation you know? Another reason I chose female in other MMO's was because I perceived the class to be feminine. So based on all of these factors and maybe a few more I can't think of at this moment that's the reason I chose female characters with the ratio being about 3 females to 1 male.

Hmm... let's see. The main schools of thought: A) you ARE your character or B) you CONTROL your character
People from the "B" train of thought would never have a problem with their avatar being a different gender.
