When you think about it, its actually more odd that males pick male avatars!..

My character is female because I sold my original character then when I got frustrated with training learning skills I went looking for a character to buy with isk and found this one met my criteria for skills, learning, gunnery and missile skills all trained up. Scored this for 700m, hated the face so I paid ccp the required isk, made a new face to look as much like my wife as possible and here we are.

I don¦t do much community running business nowadays, I¦m fully on game design now (for better or worse). But I imagine it¦s nice to see some old and familiar faces around, I know I appreciate the old school players who pop up now and again

Nick Yee is doin a research in the mmo theme long ago, in the gender bending theme too (when players choose opposite gender avatars).

Anyway, when i started to play mmos, i tended to make female chars (they looked better), but later i found it bothers me "my" body is female, and i really hated when ppl mentioned me as she, so long ago i make male chars now, i feel much comfortable to look a male body in the game as my representative.

Good stuff, nice to see your talents in the design arena really. As for me, Ah you know, causing trouble, starting revolutions and blowing up territorial NBSI empire builders trying to stop the heroic free-captains going where they want, that kind of thing :)
All the good stuff and now I'm throwing my hat into the ring for this CSM campaign, nice to be able to give something back to the game again after all these years. If I can give a bit of encouragement to pvp combat improvement and dynamism in space warfare that'll be about perfect.
Anyway, its great to be back and lovely to chat to you again.

Don't give me the lame excuse of I don't want to stare at a guy's face or it doesn't matter. When you choose a character's sex it's permanent. You can't change the sex character or even the name.

For those who get hung up on the subject, read some John Varley. In a future where a person's gender can be changed like their clothes, does physical appearance really matter anymore?

Playing opposite gender characters obviously isn't unheard of in RPGs, whether it's pen and paper or computer online RPG. I always thought it was an interesting idea, but it wasn't my cup of tea. I changed my mind when I started replaying Oblivion and tried a female char for a change, I noticed that I enjoyed it a lot. Not just creating a charming female character, but also staying in character (yes I do that, even in single player games).
Shortly after I found EVE. At first I intended to create a male Intaki, but character creation didn't work for me (in Linux). When I tried it again a while later, I noticed the Achura race (I did not pick them for the stats) and was intrigued by the idea of playing an Achura female character, so I went for it (and have only created female chars since).
It probably does fit my personality in more than one way and I am quite comfortable with that. Male and female stereotypes may be useful or not, but we should at least allow ourselves to escape from them once in a while.
As for all the talk about homophobia, etc... If I'd actually be homosexual I probably would be less comfortable doing this, as it might feel like I am fooling people in some way. Still I think it is sad that it is portrayed as something that is naturally bad and should be avoided (to give the impression). We should be past that in most parts of the world.
By the way, the only thing I could possibly regret would be to choose a name like "Everyone Dies" or a random combination of letters. But to each their own.

I'm male and picked a male for my first, a female for the second, a male for the third, a male for the fourth, male for the sixth, female for the seventh, eighth, ninth, male for the tenth.
Some of the names I wish I could change, but the avatars/genders are fine, I have so many that I think of them more as skillsets rather than their avatars. Tools that I use rather than someone who is really 'me'.
Would have to agree with some about the Achura, hard to pick a male there.
