Hi.
To solve this issue you need to clear your cache folder.
On a default install it is located here: C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE
1. Under there you will find a folder named: "c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility" 2. Delete or rename that folder 3. Restart the client

Hi There
Also having the same issue with starting EvE after downloading the new patch seperatly and then installing - Thanks for the advice, but unfortunatly, did not work for me, i have removed the cache folder's as you explained, but no joy. Still have the splash screen show of a instant, and then nothong more
Have tried to download the full premier client once again, but the download screen just locks up on me.. I will have to try again tomorrow i think.. All the best and good luck with your patching

So... Vista deffinatly doesn't have a Documents and Settings folder, but we do have a documents folder... so i checked there and... went to the eve folder... and all there is are logs for portraits/chat/market/etc
everything that the person from CCP said to do, dosent even exist
uninstallled and reinstalled and it still dosent work
This is so stupid tbh, so anyone figured out how to actually fix it yet?

I'm glad that the customer service at CCP is top of the line, seems like a lot are having this problem and the only answer we get is somthing that dosent even exist
might as well just said
"to fix it, the answer is 42"
prolly would have helped more tbh =[

I have a fix to the problem. THIS is for all vista users. this has been confirmed with 3 other people who run vista. you will need to run eve in windows xp sp2 capability mode.

Edited by: el M on 16/04/2008 03:54:27 same problem here ..... uninstall // download full version ... waiting for a two hour download with no skill training .... another great achievement CCP style..
all that the game log says after the application quietly fades away is "session started .."

Hello Again
Update on previous post
Managed to download the full client.. and installed, and lo and behold, all went smoothly, well all with a standard layout, which will have to be modified to suit again.. if i can remember them all, and how i did it, but at least we are back up and running again.
be well all and fly safe

I wish my attempts to fix things were ass successful as yours... Running XP media center with SP2 and premium content
Same issue with the splash window appearing for a little under a second and then the process dying with no error message. I opted for a full uninstall/reinstall first. Ran the uninstaller, downloaded a new installer, went to install and it said that it couldn't write about half of the required files, so I aborted the install. I checked the directory and sure enough all the files it tried to install were already there, so I tried to manually delete them. The files were in use, so I *****ed open the process list in the task manager and saw that Exe_file was still running, which apparently is one of the EVE process names. Killed the process and manually deleted the files. Ok, clean install folder ready I ran the installer again and installed everything just fine. No change with the problem. Moved the cache folder to the desktop. No change. Deleted the cache folder. No change. Downloaded the EVE cache cleaner program from a different thread. Ran it, checked the files to see that they were empty. No change. Repented and rebooted just for good measure. No change.
Is there a plan B?
tl;dr The fixes reported earlier in the thread haven't worked for me.

Thanks for the attempt Doc, but still no solution for me.
To recap: I've cleared the cache both manually and with the EVE Tool. I've done a full uninstall/reinstall with a fresh download of the client. I've turned off every firewall between myself and the server. I rebooted after every attempted fix. |
