I don't really get what highways have to do whit market. Or rather the destruction of smaller markets. Becus ppl will alwasy come together to in one place rather than going looking at 10 diffrent ones.
It's why we have capitols. So in the end, just make more central markets if that is the problem. you allready have lum, pator, yulai, amarr. Whit this new system you only change where those markets lies and the travel time between them. You don't really change the way the market operates.
So to me this latest development is pointless. And as I've said before. I think CCP miss read the intentions whit this new development.
But you can't really get rid of the highway system. Becus it's what links the empire together. It promotes movement and promotes access, and is what makes empire space diffrent from deep space.. Where you can't really get a hold of anything. And you travel forever to get to nothing.
Just limiting the highways isn't synonyminus whit getting rid of centraliced markets.
Highways = Good
I'll leave it whit that. If you want me to elavorate on that. PM me. I've voiced my opinion now and is donw whit it. SoonÖ

Edited by: Pleasure Prude on 21/04/2004 23:10:43 it was fine as it was before, why change.
You pvp's can still have your fun, why change the life styles of those that don't want.

well.. i am a fulltime Trader/Researcher... still i vote for REMOVE the HIGHWAYS so as Trading is once again a vialable profession that can make some profit. i never fired a shot at a player so far, so i guess your (rather simplificating and downright unappropriate) statement is wrong. its not just the "pvp's" that call for removal of the highways, but rather these calls also come from people who think the trader profession should be reintroduced again...

That's the point. Lum, Pator, Yulai, Amarr... all of them should be central markets. But since they were(are) all tied together, they weren't centrals markets. It was all just one central market.

This comment really makes me LOL.
A PvP'er in empire is there cause he's passing between two areas where he can PvP. Or because he's buying a ship. He BENEFITS from the highways.
A producer/researcher in empire has a very small margin, due to the highways. Trading in empire is dead, because of the highways.
The difference is that some people care about the game, and sees the bigger picture. To remove the highways would in NO way do me any good. But if I'm looking 6 months into the future, it would be a better game without the highways, and who knows, one day I maybe would like to try life in empire.

The highways will stay, the devs have made this very clear.
The question is in reality when, if and how much will the toll be.
Personally I like the highways, they are designed wrong as they force all trafic into extreme chokepoints however if you make it a ring leading round that will become less of a problem.

I like the highways. Of course, I make most of my money in the trade channel so flying around the galaxy as quickly as possible is very important to me.
Of course, I do understand the arguments for removing the highways and do see them as legitimate arguments. If you remove the highway system, then you make traveling mean more right b/c it it will take longer.
Well, this is probably true but I don't really like having to make 30 jumps just to go do whatever it is that I want to do. I mean, at the moment, if you want to do different sorts of things, then you(usually) have to go to a lot of different places in the galaxy. If I log on and want to go NPC mining/hunting/trading/PC hunting then I have to spend 30 to 45 minutes getting all the appropriate gear, meet up with people etc. before I actually start DOING the activity that I was planning on doing. While I understand that this is par for the course in MMORPGs, I think that anything that reduces the amount of time that I have to sit in front of the computer screen with a glazed look in my eye is a good thing. This, in my opinion, is a good rule for ANY game not just this game.
The amount of time that is spent AFK on autopilot is one of my biggest peeves with this game. I understand conceptually why distance is a good thing, but I really don't think that it should have to be any more of a pain that it is right now.

The highways are fine. I liked them more before, but if this helps with the flow then a few extra jumps doesn't bother me.
Most people that dislike the highways, new theory, they are just lying to make friends. They are trying to fit in with a certain crowd or something.

I thought the highway's were to make us jump less over longer distances, at least it was a revolution when the highway system was implanted, but now CCP has even made it worse than it was. A route that used to be 8 jumps is now 12 jumps, they say this new system is going to make busy systems less laggy. Atleast it's not working that way for me, I have to jump more jumps and I get stuck as well, I haven't been stuck since beta !!! CCP is that the best you can do to serve happy customers?

Remove them, single biggest thing destroying any atmosphere and large scope in EVE.
Think of how boring Everquest (back before they ruined it with the Nexus and the books) would have been if ever city was connected to eachother from the start. The Wahoo Shock Project |

Edited by: Balsak on 22/04/2004 05:16:37 Edited by: Balsak on 22/04/2004 05:15:05 Personally I want to see the highway gates gone but a high toll would be acceptable. Ill just paste some edited comments I made in a seperate thread for those that didnt read it.
Removing the highway gates makes every region have its own relatively distinct economy. This would make being a dedicated trader/hauler more profitable therefore more inviting. This would make people move out of empire space a little. More stations would be utilized, especially the ones near the region borders. This would give pirates more targets to attack making pirating more exciting again. Give need for escort services making a new profession.
The Eve population is getting big enough now that each region should be seperated somehow. Getting rid of the highway gates is obviously going to annoy alot of people so thats why the tolls should be good enough if set to a high enough price. You can still then travel quickly but your trips would have to be planned and you would have to make sure its worth the toll.
