Various game mechanics as well as offers such as power of two and recent wingman offer seem to be encouraging subscription growth by way of increasing number of alt accounts per actual gamer.
Whether it be isk farming accounts, both as personal vehicles for enterprising players or those selling isk for real money, R&D alt accounts, mining and manufacture accounts and various other ventures that rely on a separate account for making isk will one day reach a limit, a point where account numbers are saturated in terms of alts/accounts per gamer
At this point, we will see the number of new accounts as alts tail off and the real growth of actual numbers of gamers become clear.

I agree, this model is not sustainable, however trying suggesting to the forum community that training multiple characters per account, and see what a negative reaction you get.
There is, of course, a relationship between the policy of encouraging gamers to purchase additional accounts, and the cap of one character training per account.

The main reason to train all learning branch for do it all in a unique player. I created a player for waste time mining in the Navitas and when i saw that it was unable to train skills... i play with her when i'm bored with my main mining but without any plan to do skills with her.
I don't waste my money for have an 'alt'. ------ Skills |

1. What exactly is the problem? At any given moment there are 20-40 thousand players on the server with no wait time I might add.
2. Do you have an alternative that will not shock the system to the point of a mass exodus of the player base, that wont cause CCP to perform a major overhaul to the code to prevent multi accounts and that the player base will generall accept?
Its easy to point out a "problem", its hard to come up with a solution.

I think the OP is just saying that if CCP wants to continue to expand (in terms of # of accounts), it will eventually have to focus more on getting new people, instead of just having the same people get more accounts.
This is a good point.. although if GTC prices fall I would certainly consider getting a 3rd or 4th account and other people might.

The most effective way to discourage the creation of alts is to stop making two players more effective than one. As long as two players are more effective than one, two characters will be more effective than one. As this is a multiplayer game, I don't foresee that ever changing.
As for making ISK using alts, there is already practical limitations for real players. Those who use macro's to increase the effectiveness of multiple accounts are already in violation of the EULA/ToS and will be delt with accordingly as descovered.
Citing a couple of your examples:
Mining alts are limited by profitablity. It takes somewhere in the area of 50 hours of mining per month to maintain your character. So if you want to mine like it is a part time job, then go to it.
R&D alt accounts: I know a thing or two about this. It is not worth it any more. Hasn't been for several months now. You can make more ISK with less effort trading NPC goods than by maintaining R&D alts.

10-20k players you mean, 20-40k accounts might be more realistic. I've been in a couple large allainces and I've been around. Almost EVERYONE in LowSec and 0.0 seems to have dual accounts at the least, and probably a fair number in Empire.
I dunno how to deal with the prob, I doubt CCP even sees it as a problem, but if they did wtf would they do about it? But if you ask me dual boxing/alting is weaksauce. Unfortunately, many aspects of the game seem to reward alting over grouping. It's often just...easier.

And the better skilled ones survive to send back intel on the camp and system in general so whats your point? CCP gave us three slots on each account for a reason left up to us to decide. |

And some alts are made just for the purpose of posting on the forums. (CAOD readers will know exactly what I mean)
And that's just the point, CCP gave us 3 character slots per account to play with, people will just use them in any way they find useful. Whether you like it or not this was intended by the developers, and it's a bit late to be changing it now.

Actually, with current prices, 350mill per 90d GTC, 30mill/h mining in 0.0, it takes about 4h per month or 1h per week to maintain the alt account. |

To be fair, neither you or I know how many actual players are on at any one time with alts because CCP wont release that information, 90% of all statistics can be made to say anything 50% of the time I guess would be a good thing to say here. The population of 0.0 could very well all use alt accounts, but if I recall, thats only 7% of the entire eve population.
To think something is weaksause is really just your opinion. It cant nor wont stop someone from using multiple accounts when its clearly benifitial to do so. I play with multiple accounts and your opinion wont mean anything to me when playing as I am paying for that, either by paying an additional 15 dollars a month or by paying 200 million isk a month to purchase a GTC for the account and there is nothing stoping you or anyone else from doing so besides your opinion and when it comes down to it your opinion doesnt matter unless you can back it up with a blastor or missile.
To borrow a phrase loved by many in EvE, Adapt or Die.
Im not trying to be an ass here but im stating the facts. Nothing is stopping anyone from procuring another account at some point in their time in EvE. |
