What is small corporations (less tahn 50 members) role in EvE these days. What can they do other than run mission and mine in empire, ..maybe try random pirating in lewsec. Theres a lot of talking about alliances and their interraction on these forums. Also most if not all changes usually proposed and most of those implemented too are directed to big alliances. So my question is this ... what can small corporations do in EvE these days?

We do a wide variety of activities, from trading/piracy/mining/missions and everything in between. If the corp needs more numbers we have blue alliances and corporations with very good relations. We have have quite an effect on certain markets in eve and for a corp of 9 it is quite impressive. Corp size is not really a factor, it's what your members are capable of and their cohesion that matters.

some time ago I was a member of a relatively small corp - Devil's Brigade. 17 members. We took an Omist region under our control. Nowadays however the role of small corps diminished greatly due to gameplay innovations (outpost building, jump array networks etc etc.)
Hear my words though - it's not the number of members that matters but number of pilots you have in gang on daily basis.

I see a lot of smaller groups have a huge ambition to break into the mining/production field but ultimately end up having to focus on one or the other until they grow enough to support it. -----

Like others have posted there might be some limitations to what smaller corps can do in EVE. General speaking I am sure we can do what bigger corps do, but maybe not in big scale.
Recently we made a deal with a corp to supply them with equipment and thus our current focus have shifted. But we are able to do what others do. Mining, mission, pvp, explore, haul and play the market. Along with research and manufacturing. ----------------------------------------------- Recruiting manager. Non-combat stuff aside any well-skilled 50-100 man combat oriented corp can easily shut down the largest of alliances in any constellation for as long as they choose to do so.
Examples:
Burn Eden Early TRI BOS Whoever it was from PL/Goon that shut down Rise operations.
OP--the alliances like to talk ****, boast and point to kb stats, have buckets of members and so on. The reality is most (there are exceptions-BoB, RA, PL, Insurgency, and so on) will reflect EvE demographics in makeup (mostly carebear types with a couple decent combat corps) and generally **** pants when given the slightest shove. It's easy to spot the straw-men alliances as well...they will usually crow about kb stats that are actually just well padded garbage kills with 100 man fleets parked on an 0.0 access point popping shuttles.
Yes it may seem as though CCP caters more to the large 0.0 alliances with all the POS/Sov malarky and cookies. Best you can do is play YOUR game and ignore everyone else. Determine what you want to achieve (hopefully having fun is good enough ) and work towards it. Even the biggest alliances out there started with 1 player .

I think it doesn't matter if the corp is small or not. What matters is the leadership. If the corp leader thinks only about improving and growing his corp, the corp can be effective. If the leader only thinks about what makes him happy, yea, the small corp has no chance EveMag:Download Location 2 EveMag:Download Location 3 |

Our corp isn't one that is intent on gaining mass numbers, in fact we have less than 20. Our goal isn't dominance, however, just fun and learning.
Different corps fill different niches based on the players' game preference. Each corp's individuality makes for a different experience. though many themes are prevalent (i.e. mining, missioning, piracy, et.al.) The whole of which makes our community. Agreed! Its not really the number that makes the corp its the high standard of player you have like Kr0m in the old days! I know some corp that friendly and work on project and make it fun as possable but tend not to care so much for alliance because they have fun! Leadershiop is everything without it its dead!

Your role is either stay in Empire and be free or go to 0.0 and be a pet.

It is certainly possible for even very small corporations to have a massive impact on the game. Our corporation usually has about 10 people at any given period, yet our impact on the game has been massive. It all depends what you want out of your eve experience. But do not for a second let anyone tell you that you cannot do something because your not in a large alliance.

most alliances in eve, are in a constant state of internal turmoil, a lot of eve players over estimate them.

Someone forgot to send me the memo on being incapable of doing anything because of our numbers. Maybe its time to get a hold of Molle and become a pet.
A successful corp can be any size, just depends on the members. If you have one leader and a bunch of followers you join an alliance and mine. If you have a group of free thinking individuals you move to that alliances space and farm them like sheep.
Burn Eden has never had more than 15 active pilots, and probably never will. Not because we do not have willing candidates but because 1/20 gets kicked or leaves after a few days.

TBH running a big (50+) corp is a pain in the butt. The way you get big is by saying 'we welcome all professions' and trying to be all things to everybody. But then you wind up with a corp scattered all over space and you suddenly have to be dealing with political issues as the friction between PVP and PVE, teenagers and older members, grows exponentially. It's a good way to go for your very first corp, and one of the benefits seems to be that you attract a large pool of friends and experience, which must be a help when you create your second, more focused corp. That's been my experience, anyway.

Lot's of stuff..
You can go to 0.0, fight your way in, set up a pos, and claim sov.
Not very difficult to do, just have to look at the region to invade.
