Edited by: Dotard on 23/04/2008 00:31:43 support for the idea.
Was a simple as posting ' /signed '. A simplistic reply that conveyed agreement with an idea without wasting/requiring lots of keystrokes.
Now since that is considered 'spam' are we to be required to type out the long version? i.e. "I agree with this idea and believe it should be implemented as it was well thought out." ?
(Sure I'll prob get a fan letter for pointing out the silliness of this new rule.)
Reminds me of when Homer got arrested for pointing out the stupidity of Police Chief Wiggum.

Build on it, post something nonsensical and technically not constructive but too nonsensical to delete outright, or STFU of course. CCP doesn't use the forums to take polls or get an idea of the majority anyway. They are smarter than that.
P.S. I think you're swell. |

I endorse this product and/or service?
Still, that IS much longer than /signed.
I think whatever noob mod is calling that spam needs to consult other mods before locking or cleaning any threads... forum mods need to be experienced, hardened forum warriors in their own right.
That is... I HOPE this was a noob mod that committed the offense in question.

I endorse this product and/or service really is no different than /signed. Is there a minimum number of characters required for it not to be considered spam?
Suggesting that I "STFU" violates forum rules # 5 and 6.

I wouldn't recommend STFU either. I'm sure my own post history can drum up some good nonsense as examples.
Try "I agree with this so intensely that I have nothing further to say."

Try this:
Your lack of participation in a thread is viewed as implied agreement. That is, if you agreed with the op, or dont care either way, then there's no need to post. If you dont think it's a good idea, and you're motivated to say something about it, then do so! "this idea is bad because of X reason" is what helps the devs when they read our ideas.
Replies are meant for disagreement, clarification, or building upon good ideas. This becomes extremely difficult when I have to wade through 5 pages of /signed just to find the one response I wished to address.
Your posts don't have any point and they stifle debate. If anything, /signed hurts the very idea you liked because it damages the discourse that could have improved it.

How about you don't add to the volume of posts without adding meaningful content or interaction, and instead only post if you have something more poignant that "i agree" to say. I don't need to read through fifty people saying /signed. In a forum with thousands of people in it, you need to start culling the chaff.

I don't think CCP have any problem with one or more occasional /signed.
My guess is that they just want to avoid that a thread is getting constantly bumped without adding any significant information to it.

You could also try distilling the idea into a catchy chant as a reply, like the one I see all the time!
"No insurance for CONCORDed ships!"* "No insurance for CONCORDed ships!"* "No insurance for CONCORDed ships!"* "No insurance for CONCORDed ships!"* "No insurance for CONCORDed ships!"* "No insurance for CONCORDed ships!"* "No insurance for CONCORDed ships!"* "No insurance for CONCORDed ships!"* "No insurance for CONCORDed ships!"* "No insurance for CONCORDed ships!"* "No insurance for CONCORDed ships!"* "No insurance for CONCORDed ships!"* "No insurance for CONCORDed ships!"* "No insurance for CONCORDed ships!"*
*Disclaimer: Poster does not really support this. You might after reading the chant though.

You aren't meant to agree with stuff. You gotta disagree, preferably in a really shouty way that has lots of insults and no valid constructive opinion.

You have been caught in the act of illegally bumping your own thread by prentending the need to edit it.

Spamming, bumping and pyramid quoting are prohibited. Spam is considered to be repetitive posting of the same topic or text or nonsensical posts that have no substance and are often designed to annoy other forum users. Bumping posts in order to keep them near the top of the list is also prohibited. Petitions or "/signed" posts are a version of bumping and likewise are not permitted. Pyramid quoting is a response to a forum thread which contains the quotes of four or more previous posters, sometimes with additional spaces added unnecessarily. Posts of this nature are not conducive to community spirit and are unwelcome.
I think that petitions or "/signed" posts are
**not**
a version of bumping. However, they could be used to bump a thread.
CCP should clarify this IMHO.

Please do not post /signed as stated in this thread it is considered spam. One of the reasons we'd like to do this is to lower the signal to noise ratio so that devs that want to read through, for example the 26 page thread on BACON, are not wading through /signed, first, ibtl etc.
If you agree or disagree for that matter on whatever subject, a post outlining your views on that subject will suffice. Mitnal, Community Representative

"First", I agree with. "IBTL", I agree with. /signed is a simple way for us, the community who ultimately make or break you (CCP hf) through our subscription fees and/or indirectly via purchasing GTCs from other players, can say "Yes, I agree word for word that BACON should be declared against the EULA." OP says BACON is bad. 100 people /sign that statement and argue with the 10 who say "no it's not". Devs see that we don't like BACON very quickly and very clearly by our /signatures.
In other words, /signed is often the best way for your customers to declare in no uncertain terms that they support the idea posed in a thread's OP without giving your devs a TL;DR response that would take them even longer to "wade through" (like this one you're reading now).
Banning /signed, of all things = fail on your part.

Here's an idea. I've seen some boards make use of a special feature, called a "poll". Basically, it allowys people to vote on questions, eliminating the need for a post limited to "me too" or "/signed".
Kidding aside, the usernames in here are already keyed to accounts - it shouldn't be too hard to implement some sort of polling mechanism that will only count accounts, so that you can't vote multiple times, or with (same account) alts. Of course, this might require an upgrade of the forum software - which might not be all that bad either... |

You could always fall back to the explanations given in the (in)famous Crumplecorn sigs:
I have carefully considered the proposal(s) outlined in the original post and i concur with the original poster's view(s) on the topic(s) at hand.
Or instead of IBTL: This thread does not conform to forum regulations and thus is soon to be locked. Due to this, in lieu of any significant contribution i shall simply note that i read this thread before the moderators and predicted the forthcoming lock.
Crumplecorn FTW.

Don't agree with it until you can eloquently say why you agree, in a way that it won't brush up against other people.
