A quick game mechanic question.
Situation:
Miners have access to a corp division where they place ore into a Station Container. The Container has a log so I or a Director can take the ore out and repay miners for the amount they put in.
Can I make it so people can only put ore into the container/warehouse and not be able to take anything out of the container? This is in order to limit risk and make it so only myself or a director could take out ore.
Also, can Station Warehouses or Containers be able to be locked down while still allowing people to put in ore and for directors to take it out to refine/sell? This would be in order to make it so no one can move it to their own personal hanger or do anything nefarious with it (if that is even possible :P).

cant you make it so when an item is added they are locked down inside the container and you need a PW to remove them, but you dont need the PW to put items in?

Haven't tested with station warehouse containers, but regular audit log container by default lock the items that are put in, this way noone can take stuff out without unlocking it. Then you can configure it so that it requires password to unlock.
The problem is: there is no way to prevent a director from just jacking the whole container, and you will have no trace of that == Above comments are my personal views Oveur >Local shouldn't be a tactical tool, it's for chat

Well, having a division set as Read Only for everyone except you and directors won't do the trick? that way people can put in containers and things into them but can't remove 'em...
You also can have one container per miner, they should be held by miners and deposited when there's something in (that way you won't have empty containers to check), so you won't have to check logs...
Do not try and find the signature... that's impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth... There is no signature. |

May i make the point that you could place contracts available to corp only for the total that the corp agrees on.
IE the miner sells his ore to you at a set price per unit via contract. If you buy raw ore then the math might require a decent spread sheet. If you buy minerals its easy.
Just a thought, this way you dont have to mess with all the mechanics of containers and all that.
Im an alt but this was a constructive reply and i am in a corp. *Who cares, i sure dont* |

dont need all this. you got a container history where you can see whoo took/placed what/how much in/out of the container. just monitor it freequently and you can have a nice list of the ore you got and which went away somehow. |

Thank you for the replies, it was quite helpful :)
I liked the suggestion to make one of the corp divisions read-only - I had forgotten that you could still add something to a read-only partition. Then the container, itself, can be opened by anyone and any items placed there will automatically be locked (as another person suggested). To unlock any items in the container you will need to have the password. I am not even sure if the password is necessary -- as in, I don't know if the "read-only" rules apply only to the container or all of the items within the container. I will have to test that out but I suspect the password is not necessary.
Cheers!

P.S. I had considered contracts before. That is how we used to do it but that process takes longer and is more cumbersome than a simple container with a log. The person's name, date, and number of minerals/ore are all there for you, or any director, to take and give the isk required. It is also easier to keep a record of weekly mineral totals for general interest.

This solution doesn't track what people have put in, though. That's where the tracking of a container comes in. Priority #1 - fix the lag |
