hiho,
I run lvl 4 missions for isks mostly. Now naturally I try to optimize isk/h as much as possible. I am not exactly very far in this process as I still get my selfed somewhat used to the genre. (I can solo all missions though without warping out and the like, so i am not a total mission noob)
At this point in time i am using a t2 fit Raven. Where I live there are many em/therm heavy missions so at some point in time I plan on changing to an abaddon to run the missions faster. For now I will stick to my raven as it works okay and my skills in gunnery are not on par.
Now to my questions to the more experienced missioners out in space:
1) looting I do not loot. I have done it a few times and drop is mostly oversized crap. Do any of you think looting can be worthwile from an isk/h pov? I do not have any use for the dropped modules. So they will either end up being reprocessed for minerals or if best named sold on the market. Selling minerals and loot and the process or sorting it out costs further time which has to be taken into account.
Do you see any difference with drone missions on this point?
2) salvage I don't salvage either. I only have a single account. I know salvage can be worth a good amount of money but again the salvaging and the selling do cost a lot of time in which I am not running missions.
So do you feel salvaging improves the isk/h? How does this change or depend on having a second account to salvage on the fly?
3) agents I have a q15 agent now. I am working towards getting high enough faction standing to use two agents (3-4 jumps away from this one) with q16/17. There is no noticeable lag or other inconvenience factors connected to the place where i live, so i pretty much like it.
Do you feel running for more than 1 agent helps your isk/h? How big (qualitatively) is the difference in isk/h between say a q15 and q20 agent? How much do you have to travel between your agents? Is it a problem if agents are in different corps?
4) the lp I have found some nice things in my lp that I use to convert between lp and isk. I need to buy tags so I often cannot convert all lp at one time. On the other hand my items are all low lp offers so I do not need to run missions for weeks to cash in. I get about 1200-1400 isk/lp. I don't want to ask you for the items you sell as every pro likes his secrets.
But how much isk/lp do you make usually? How much time does it cost you to do so? Are there people who toally disregard loot/salvage/bounty and run for lp mostly?
5) the big isk missions In my perception (remember I do not loot/salvage) some missions are relatively crappy in rewards. Tbh most of them seem to be. Here are some missions that i particularly like to run:
wc, ae, vengeance, pirate invasion, the blockade, the assault
Most others don't seem to be very lucrative at all. I admit again though that I am still new and I do not have very detailed statistics yet. So my question is:
What are your big isk missions? Do you try to blitz all the others? Which missions do you not accept?
Okay thats it for now. Thank you in advance for input either constructive or inflamatory in nature. |

I salvage all missions except for Guristas ones in fast ships and usually only check the BS/named wrecks for any worthwhile loot or tags. I don't accept missions where you have to shoot another faction's navy, such as EA.
I loot drone missions mostly because I make my own ammo from the reprocessed stuff. |

1. IF you use a dedicated salvaging ship. Then yes. Looting is very much worth it against anything but Guristas (and perhaps serpentis and/or mercs). It generally doesn't take too long and if you've downed more than 10 battleship then it's usually another 5-10 million in your wallet after you've sold everything. If you're lucky it can be as much as 30 mil (A few times I've been really lucky with plenty of meta 4 drops)
So far my ratio has been that for every 100 mil I make in bounties/rewards I make another 150 mil in salvage/minerals/modules. However you need a dedicated salvager. The salvager that I'm running right now is an Omen with 2x tractor beams, 3xSalvagers, MWD and 5x cargo expander IIs. Can probably salvage any mission in 20 minutes or less.
As for "I don't sell. I could be running missions". In my experience you can't run missions forever. Salvaging and selling gives a bit of a break in the routine. But that's just me. |

I am a casual lev 4 runner, only really do them if I want some fun or standings, have other things I do that keep me busy such as invention exploration manufacturing and mining. But that said, when I do run lev 4's:
1) I loot everything, with luck some nice mods can sell for 10 mill more per mission plus the reprocessing of the crap loot helps me build ships to sell. I'd guess 5-15 mill extra from loot on average.
2) I salvage everything, some rigs are incredible cash, and considering I salvage as I kill, the extra time is pretty small. have a tractor too which helps a ton on speed. I am gall though, so not as dependant on gun/missle damage as a raven user might be....sentries knock the bs' out pretty quick, and my tank can stand any mission without worry. I'd guess 5-15 mill extra from salvage per mission.
3) I personally don't see how 2 agents could be better, besides maybe more options on which missions to pick from. So I run 1 at a time. the difference in the qual 15-qual 20's really arent too much overall I dont think anyhow. Seems to make more sense to focus on one agent and not divide more time away to travelling between them ect.
4) I honestly dont even consider lp/isk. When I get enough lp for things I look at the auction/contracts for the best buy at that moment, but usually just use lp for things I may want for myself. Really cant guess the lp-isk ratio I get, since I dont pay much attention to it...its extra and thats good enough for me :) 5) all in all its not about each mission but the average to me, so I don't bother skipping any. Generally the fast ones will be lower isk overall in loot salvage and bounties, but not too much lower than the long ones in time spent. ie. run 2 missions for 20 mill each in approximately the same time a 40 million mission takes.
In short, the salvage and the loot can nearly double the returns, and if done right doesn't take much extra time. Then again I have a heavy industry set to support the justification of the profits, manufacturing ships and rigs efficiently adds even more benefits. hope that helps some and gl

I was also wondering a bit ago what could I do to make my isk/h better. Discussion was quite fruitful and can be found here. Altho it's mostly about the most efficent hardware for the job and to minor extent about most effective tackiks.
Missions I decline are (1) low sec ones (i run them next to low sec system) (2) Enemies abound series (I need to drive freighter sometimes thru gallente space).
Missions I loot are (1) worlds collide (2 and 3 stage) (2) attack of drones (3) damsel in distress (4) gone berzek (5) right hand of zassamass (6) stop the thief on assumtion that they are in same system or 1j out (missions 1,3 and 4). When I loot I also salvage (golem with salvage rigs and implant) altho those particular missions drop very crap salvage and good loot (up to ~3200 m3 of loot per mission). Reason for salvaging is, that it's easier to salvage those wrecks than unlock them maually to tractor in rest of the wrecks.
Most of the drone missions are just timesinks and have crap isk/h (due to not looting them), but as they have many small drones it's not reasonable usually to loot/salvage them either.
If you can use second account you would get better isk/h using it as second damage dealer in mission than dedicated salvager.
Running more than 1 agent (in same area) can improve your isk/h a lot as you can get to pick only profitable missions (like worlds collide) and ignore crap ones (like massive attack).
Your isk/LP conversion ratio is pretty reasonable. I do also approx 1200 - 1500 isk/LP when dealing with bigger LP volumes (it's possible to get a bit better on small scale, but those offers are not suitable for cashing in say ... 800 k LP as you would sit on the goods for half a year to sell them at decent isk/LP ratio). |

Edited by: Scout McAlt on 24/04/2008 07:41:27 Vir Hoon, the q18 lvl4 agent for Minmatar, gives out almost 9klp for each mission and you can build Republic scrams and MWD's which got for 150-200mil each! Around 7000isk/lp which is around 60mil per mission!
As for salvage, use maurader and salvage BS's as you fight. BS's drop best loot/salvage anyway so its not wasted time. Mauraders help you make more lp/hour since you are focused on 100% productivity insted ot switching to alt. Also, those with second account can also maurader it up for even more isk/lp insted of having 1 combat ship doing all the work. |

If your only concern is isk/hr:
Sansha and Angels: Loot and salvage Mercs: Loot only Guristas/Serpentis: Waste of time Drones: Waste of time
