I respect that X is a hard letter to come up with a word for, but "cnuts"? Come one! We aren't cnuts. I am just amazed you didn't use (the more accurate) popular bashing-bat "carebear"

Me, and as it looks like you too, have to live with it. Alliances are part of the game and are not going to dissapear.
Alliances makes the game. Trudging around in Empires space is fine and so, but it's when you get yourself out in the cutting edge politics of the alliances that you are truely playing the game to it's full potential and beyond (alliances are player initiative, and will be getting game feature support soonÖ)
Some alliances aren't quite as evil as some people wish to make them look like. The same is true for some corporations. Only problem some of the non-alliance players have is that they aren't taking the right things into consideration. When you are in an alliance claiming space there are several issues that arise when a pilot enters that space, whatever his buisiness is there, some of these questions arise: * is he preparing bookmarks for hostile invasion? * is he looking for industrials to shoot down? * will he try to disrupt mining operations? * is he scouting weaknessess? * will he attack one of our neighbours, who expect us to guard their back via a diplomatic agreement with us? * will he and his friends come down here and reap our asteroid fields?
Some alliances accept payment for mining/hunting passes, but what these are in reality is a way of keeping the control over a region. And keeping that region safe.
Some alliances are not accepting payments for passes and are killing people on sight, this is mostly due to other corporations/alliances hostilities towards that alliance, and they cannot take chances.
Originally by: Ravenhair Wich alliances are there? and what do they stand for
Hard to say. Alliances change over time, with the flow of diplomacy. I can only speak for what Xetic Alliance stand for, and then I am only an officer in a corporation of Xetic Immensea Federation, not a diplomat (i.e. what I say is my oppinion, not XIF's)
Our alliance is a mostly peaceful industrial alliance, with keen intrests in keeping good diplomatic connections and relations with our neighbors. We are wedged between Curse Aliiance and Stain Alliance (and lately C4), which are fiercly at war with each other. Due to this war, one of the initial goals of our alliance, to provide a safe and friendly region for Empires corporations to mine in, has been shredded. We are struggling with keeping our own members safe. A great thank you goes out to Arcane Technologies for the most recent incursion into our space. The fighting was good, the experience apreciated, and the after-combat talk was open minded and honourable. Xetic Alliance tolerate no piracy among it's ranks, and we are one of the few alliances with no rogue corporations (or indeed players). Our relations with Curse Alliance has always been good, inspite of some corporations open claim to be rogue of CA agreements. Relations with Stain Alliance is a touchy subject at the moment, so I can't tell anything there.
Hope this answers your question on the Xetic Immensea Alliance --
