The CSM was created to act as a bridge between the community and CCP so please post your most pressing concerns in here and Ill be more than happy to comment on them. As this position is merely advisory. I will not say "oh ill fix this and that" purely because I do not have the power to do so, people will say yes, but as all politicians are, they lie to get votes (something I detest myself).
I will try to get votes through honesty and some hard graft as nothing is free .
Some of the most talked about topics I have came across have been about:
1) The Economy (Farmers and Bots especially) 2) Unfair Kills (Rookies being podded etc) 3) Jita (Lag and population)
I will post my proposed solutions to these problems as I come to them but in the mean time please ask questions.
Also visit my website (www.nickaelhoop.co.uk) from time to time, its usually the first place I update

1. Seeing as your a 'non-vet' do you think EVE should be dummed down or made somehow easier for new players?
2. Whats the biggest turn off for new players in your opinion and what would you suggest by means of encouraging new players to stick with the early weeks and months?
3. Considering your relative lack of experience do you think youre ready for the CSM role now?

1) To be totally honest EVE is very simple to use at the moment although I have noticed that a lot of new players have been asking me about the UI being difficult to understand and some what complicated to get used to.
I am considering putting across as one of my point that during the tutorials buttons that need to be clicked on by a player have a bright red border so they can easily be recognised and memorised for future use.
2) Simply people baiting the new players and destroying them for no reason at all would be the biggest turn off in my opinion, although there would be an evident lack of comments on the forum about this due to said players leaving the game for good. I would love to discuss this further with the community but my current idea employs new players not being able to go in lowsec and porably within 2 jumps of their home station for the first week until they get used to the game and its mechanics.
3) I would not say that I am clueless to the game, I know a lot and I would like to apply that in my campaign but I need input from players to make the right decisions to take forward to the first CSM meeting (providing of course a chair is won).
I feel that anyone can be ready for the CSM role, they dont need to be 3 years old and have x amount of level 5 skills. The only quality that I feel they should have is the ability to listen, communicate and learn as well as being able to stray away from their first opinions in favor of something more adequately suited.

Edited by: Nickaelhoop on 28/04/2008 23:09:56 Edited by: Nickaelhoop on 28/04/2008 23:09:11 I thank you for your comment although I feel that the grounds on which you are giving me a vote is slightly unfair.
I would love to gain votes through my campaign as well as gaining help from the community through ideas and general suggestions that I can mull over and think. I am also not doing this for the trip, I couldn't give a hoot if it was two minutes down the road, I am doing it for the chance to change the game for the better, helping the people that need it the most and working with the winning candidates would be more than enough for myself.
But if you want to give your vote to me then so be it, I'm not going to stop you
Thank you,

Check the new players missions, the string of 10 missions require to get to a station with inventing facilities and that is not generally feasible in 2 jumps.
Limiting the range of a new character to 2 jumps for a week can be a heavy limitations, it will make the game feel small and restricted and get a lot of new players in 4-5 systems, with problems of lag and heavily depleted belts. Not allowing them to enter low sec for the first week instead is a good idea I recall being pod killed the 3 day or so as a small trauma, especially as I wasn't getting why they were doing that.

Edited by: Nickaelhoop on 29/04/2008 16:27:43 It was merely a thought I had at the time, of course if it is decided that CCP will look into it they will find a nice solution but I'm sure suggestions will be appreciated

I have several questions, and taking a page out of Talkuth RelĘs book, I decided to ask each candidate in their own threadą
1)Invention ū A good idea that still needs worką a.Have you ever tried invention? b.What ideas do you have to improve invention?
2)Pilot Security Level ū Should it be more important? a.(In High Sec) ū Should Concord react faster if the victim has a higher security level? If the attacker has a lower rating? b.Should the Security Level of a system affect changes to Pilot Security level changes? c.Should the Security Level of a Targeted Pilot have more of an effect on the security change of the attacker?
3)Industry ū The Creators of Eve a.Do you regularly build anything? b.Do you regularly mine? c.What do you think could be done to improve industry in Eve? d.You have been asked to help with new ships for industrial characters, describe a few ideasą

Edited by: Nickaelhoop on 02/05/2008 18:47:43 1a) Unfortunately not, personally I do not have the budget nor the time for it when I can quickly access T2 items on the market albeit probably for a higher cost.
b) I have looked into the cost of it and it is very affordable until you have to purchase a decryptor, maybe a small market flood of them to drive the price down to a more affordable level?
2a) I find that an interesting idea and something I would like to bring forward with me if a seat is won, but that activity will some approval and disapproval from the various community members, perhaps mostly from the new players like myself who find it difficult to drive up their security standing without constantly grinding every mission their agent throws at them.
b) I don't beleive so, A pilot's security level should be the same regardless of where he/she is.
c) I don't beleive that this should be the case as well, I think the current system im place is sufficient.
My type of questions (hooray!) and my main concern as a candidate:
3a) Yes, everytime I am online I throw something in for manufacturing, mostly for personal stock but I do sell. I think it is an integral part of EVE as if you looked at the world today without all the factories the price of everything would rise and simple items would become something of a rarity.
b) I mine almost everyday, as I manufature everything from ships to modules resources are important to me in the highest of respects. Mining should be enjoyable and not as hostile as I beleive it is, everytime I go out to a belt within a few minutes of mining someone comes along I can only assume to wait for me to drop a can but alas that never happens as I pilot a hulk and my hold is pretty decent with T2 expanders and eventually they dissappear.
c) I think people should disown the mentality that all players who mine are automatically carebears, that may be the case in some circumstances but if it wasn't for them they would have no widowmakers in their heavy launchers or barrage in their T2 autocannons. These people are important and should be looked after and respected.
d) More low and mid slots to fit shield/armour resistance boosters to enable them to cope well under-fire, a drone bay able to hold a few medium scout drones would also be beneficial in my opinion. |

I will be addressing each candidate with the same questions ableit it might be a little late:
1) What do you think about more PVE scenarios, ones which would incorporate a large section of the EVE universe. Perhaps like a war between the races, or a war against a different race. Perhaps it would be a war against a pirate corp where PCs are encouraged to come help out the fleet. This could allow players to get more of a feel in some way fleet battles as well.
2) Along the lines of the above statement, how would you feel if the EVE universe had a vote in how their races interacted. Perhaps in order to get users more involved the races would submit 'Resolutions' to the players on actions they take. Perhaps the Gallente Federation gives some offense to the Caldari State or vice versa, maybe the resolution to those that are members of the Caldari State would say something like, "Should the Caldari State retaliate with military force against system XYZ for said offense?". Then there could be some possible PVE event taken in that sector of space. The Caldari State can then give real-time missions to players who wish to participate be it material gathering, intelligence, combat missions, mercenary action, etc.
3) How would you feel about opening Invention to invent new items that they design, potentially completely new items to the EVE universe? I believe giving the players the ability to customize items and perhaps make something completely new would greatly increase their involvement and enjoyment of the game. This would introduce even more learning skills for those that want to do industry and allow them to decide how and what will improve ships. Perhaps even allowing researchers to invent totally new kinds of ships.
4) How would you feel if the EVE universe could start impacting in some way on 0.0? Pirates and alliances in 0.0 often have influence in Empire space and low sec, what if the tables were reversed? What if players in empire space could pass resolutions for the races to clear out temporarily portions of low sec, perhaps even attempt to clear out portions of 0.0? The idea here would not to attact home systems, but perhaps fringe systems. This could help introduce empire players to 0.0 and pvp, it could also help keep in check mega alliances and factions. In addition this could allow empire players the 'occasional' chance to get some resources in 0.0 if they aid the initiative.
5) Finally how would you feel about creating and opening events to all players and not just the wealthiest alliances in EVE? There could be many talented pilots out there that want to compete for fame and glory, but may not have the ISK to do it. Perhaps if EVE provided weekly/monthly tournaments around the EVE universe and then allowed the winners to compete in a bracket system up to a finale, it would encourage even more interaction. Instead of just giving some enormous prize once/twice a year, they could give smaller prizes for each stage of the contest leading up to the ultimage prize. These could also include side contests like 1v1/2v2/etc frigate/cruiser fights. Find out who the best 1v1 player is, or who the best tandem team is, etc. |

1) I think that is a very good idea and I am going to note it as something to possibly take forward with me. A better storyline for these missions I would feel are essential, perhaps with some cinematic scenes but a vast amounts of ships in a war seems pretty interesting and will add further gameplay to this already wonderful game.
2) Again, I would fully back this as it adds a whole new element to the game that I think no other MMO has. It will add hours of interesting missions based on real-time events. An advance on this could be that empire corps would host these missions for all the new players to get involved without too much danger.
3) I give this my full backing as well, this idea is not only brilliant but it sounds interesting and I would like to see where it leads to and especially if CCP would second it.
4) That is an interesting idea but I would leave it as it is, I have a feeling that some of the major alliances/corps would abuse it to their advantage to land grab and find holes.
5) EVE in my opinion it about having fun and a bit of time to have fun and socialise. I find that people are getting to ISK hungry and so all events should be open to all players albeit if they are only a few days old or 4 year vets, wealth should not be a limiting factor.
((Expect revisions as I have waffled a fair amount))
