Quote: He would've warped if you had taken your point off him, be a sitting duck for 15 minutes (counted after the logoffski, not the warp) in the random 1AU distance spot (which should be plenty of time to probe him out), then disappear.
What is this point? I have seen this term used a number of times and I have no idea what this is. I did not want to derail the threads in which it occurred but if anyone could enlighten me it would be much appreciated

Edited by: Dirk Magnum on 30/04/2008 20:46:22 The simplest definition is to say that it means he's getting hit with a warp scrambler.
On the info for warp scramblers it will say "warp scramble strength" and have a number of "1" or "2" (and I believe there's an officer scrambler with "3"... at any rate T2 scrammers USED to have "3".) That number is the number of "points" of scram strength that the module can put on a target.

dirk has it down, used in more context...
"Get a point on that guy or he'll warp off!" "Point that pod so we can kill it" "I've been pointed! plx help!"
etc, etc...i think you get the idea.

Where these "points" become relevant is in over coming someone's resistance to being warp scrambled.
If you have a 1 point warp scrambler and your target has no warp stabilizers then you can scramble him.
If he has one warp stabilizer you must have two points to scramble him.
If he has two warp stabilizers then you must have three points of warp scrambling to scramble him and so on.
Some industrials have five or so Low slots and could put five warp stabilizers in there. To scramble them you would need to have six points worth of warp scrambling.
You could get those six points by either mounting three two point scramblers on your ship (and being in range to use them as the two point scramblers have less range) or have another ship that is also scrambling him at the same time.
Because Warp Stabilizers exact a fairly severe penalty on the locking range of the ship using them - they are counter productive to put on combat ships - unless you are just ferrying the ship from one place to another.
Thus it is mostly commercial ships that use Warp Stabilizers.
The combat ships solution to being warp scrambled is to blow up the guy scrambling them or fly out of his range.
For this reason it is common to also Webify the guy being scrambled.
For Commercial Ships - your protection is in being able to run away - so you'll see them using warp stabilizers more often. Here though, since they are putting them in their Low Slots, they are using up the same slots they would put Cargo Expanders in to increase the amount of load they could carry. Thus you have to make a decision about relative security vs. cargo capacity.
