I heard this was broken and effectively does nothing - is that the case?

Doesn't it affect sentry drones? ------------

I don't recall, to be honest - but the story was pretty much that drones orbit their target at a set range, which has nothing to do with their own range, and hence increasing their range does very little, if anything.
I guess I am not really sure if the skill would be useful even if the drones orbitted at the weapons optimal range.

As far as I know it works as intended.
The sharpshooting offsets the higher speed, then they orbit from a farther distance.
Looking at "Show Info" on the drones is what's broken. It doesn't update. ---------------------------------------------------

It is needed for and allows training of sentry drones. So at least the skill pre-req thins is working correctly. Don't know if the in game affects are applied.

It works, and does marvels with Sentry Drones. Pretty pointless on Lights/Mediums/Heavies though, as their optimal is a paltry 1000m (yeah, the same as Frigate Autocannons).
Get it to IV though, as its needed to train Sentries, and 200m extra optimal on the other Drones certainly won't hurt you. |

Edited by: Excalibolg on 06/05/2008 10:36:47 Actually, what I think you're talking about is Drone Navigation not Sharpshooting. I remember hearing that it was broken and if you get too high (5 maybe) light drones go too fast for their targeting speed or something along those lines. |

That was fixed some time ago.

To clarify, Drone Sharpshooting is not broke, it does exactly what it says it does.
Drone optimal range has nothing to do with drone orbit range.
Drones do in fact have an "orbit radius" stat if you look in one of the online item databases, but in reality they orbit slightly outside of that range due to agility.

OK, but does it do anything a player would actually desire it to do?
And if so, what? |

Training it to level IV is required for the use of Sentry Drones. Training it to V gets you the max range you can get out of your Sentry Drones.
Technically it will help with other drones as well if they're chasing a target or orbiting very fast, but since the optimal range on non-Sentry Drones is so small, it's not a huge benefit. |

No m8, it's Drone Navigation IV for Drone Nav. Computer :) Drone Sharpshooting allows Omnidirectionnal Tracking link ____________________________________ Fulbert Peon |
