It's a short question, but one very tough to answer. And even harder to answer it as short and to the point as possible.
In as few words as you can manage (single, short phrase would be preferrable), describe what do YOU think sets YOU apart from all other candidates, please.

I'm not sure I get what you mean by that LaVista.
The OP is asking the right question - there's ~60 candidates and you get a single vote. Candidates - why should that vote go to you over all others? |

Why not me ? Thanks for asking Because I didn't apply
Now seriously, I know it's a really nasty question... but in the end, THIS is what will make people vote for any of you in particular instead of just going with the name they're most familiar with. Because that's where we'll end up unless each of you can find some "defining trait"... a pure and simple popularity contest vote (and I don't mean that in a good "respecting" way, but in the bad "hearsay" way).
If a candidate can't answer to this question himself... how can the voter be asked to do it ?

Well, "you" being the candidates.
But seriously, people should vote for me because i can represent them, I have the time to do it and I have the interest in doing so.

Well, that reads more like a "requirements" list rather than a campaign slogan/motto/platform, if you dont mind me saying that... what makes you think the other candidates can't represent the others, don't have the time to do it or don't care enough to do it properly ?
Seriously, I want to pick somebody in particular, out of the "usual suspects" which have both things I like and dislike (as it's normal with a person that's sincere enough to express his thoughts about issues he cares for)... but there's nothing to set you guys apart... I might as well roll the dice and pick one one of my "tied" favs. Yes, the election process would be significantly better if you could express 9 choices (or 3, or 14, whatever). Heck, I wish the voting system would be more lie the Eurovision "vote". But you can only express ONE.
So... again... why you and not any of the others I like (more or less) equally ? What sets you apart, in your opinion ?

I don't mean to disparage your candidacy personally LaVista, but nearly every single other candidate could say the exact same thing about themselves. Surely to be deserving of a vote you need to provide better reasoning than that. |

What makes it a particularly nasty question is because this isnÆt a presidential style election with only one ôwinnerö. WeÆre electing a council of nine people who will have to work together to make the CSM work.
IÆm going to say that itÆs not that IÆm ôbetterö than the other candidates so much as that I represent a particular view and perspective that should be represented on the CSM. I love the game of Eve; have a genuine passion for the universe and potential of the single server environment. I want to see Eve be all it can be and rise to embrace its visionary potential as a grand multiplayer space opera in a truly dynamic political maelstrom of conflict.
I want to be part of a council of nine committed, enthusiastic and positive players doing everything they can to advocate progressive change for the benefit of all. If we achieve this itÆll be something to be truly proud of.

I realized that. But I couldn't justify giving other reasons.
I have experience in most aspects of eve, but does that make me better than everybody else? Not really. It's all about perspective.
I could probably become an ego and list all these "awesome" things about me. But I have always been taught to be fairly humble. So it's really not my style.
People should vote for me because I know the many aspects of eve, i have visions, i can see perspectives and I have a history of doing what is in the interest of the community. I think my actions in the past, as well as my campaign, is the only thing I can justify pointing to. But that would be too obvious to post. |

First of all, I have talked to a person who signed up for CSM, just for the trip to Iceland. Needless to say, this person haven't made a campaign at all. Neither had this person intention of representing anybody than him and his friends.
But the thing is(And I'm probably being unreasonable and setting expectations too high) that people NEED time on their hand, to do the job of CSM. If we have 9 people who works from 7 to 7, it won't work out. And let's face it, some people DO have a real life, and can't dedicate all that much time, as it could take.
That is not saying they aren't good for the council. But if a person isn't ACTIVE on the community fairly consistently, I would rather vote for one who would. |

Far from it, those are great reasons and I'd encourage you to talk more about them. I think being an active community member and pointing to the things you've done are exactly what this should be about. |

I definitely agree.
Problem is, the CSM is a team. I consider the other candidates, to be almost friends of mine. I have talked to many of the candidates, for a considerable amount of time, troughout the campaign period. And I enjoyed it. So I can't justify that I'm better than them. I can say why I think i will do a great job, and how i have already done that.
But I sure have spent a lot of time writing campaign material. Look up the two PDF's i wrote about the economy of eve(Worth about 16 pages overall), I think that speaks volumes which can't be expressed in a few sentences.
You can't express enthusiasm in a few sentences. It's a lifetime of bringing YOUR persona and your skills, to the community. This is what CSM is all about.

Then you should probably focus on two things.
On one side, you should try to push for a revamp of the election system : instead of a single vote, voters should be able to either express 9 separate identical-value votes, or 9 separate votes valued 9 to 1 points. On the other side, if such a revamp proves impossible to acheive on such a short notice, you should probably bite the bullet and just drop out of the race instructing "your followers" to vote for the "other guy" in your team that has better chances.
Either way, several of you should bind together and focus on running as a team, each of you promoting yourself AND the others in your team too.

I will work together with whoever gets elected. I have no problems with any of the candidates. Yet I do personally have people I would PERSONALLY vote for.
That one person is Jade. Sadly, Jade doesn't really represent the industry. Even if he did, I would still be running. I still think i can do an excellent job.
But as for voting, I think you should have 3 votes. |

Edited by: TornSoul on 03/05/2008 19:30:37 I'll simply copy/paste from my campaign website (EDIT : Whoops... Forgot about the "be brief" bit... Oh well..)
Why vote for TornSoul?
A vote for TornSoul is a vote for "The BIG Picture". I've been around EVE for so long, that I've seen both the Good, the Bad and the Ugly sides of EVE. The stuff that works, and the stuff that doesnt.
I've seen the things that CCP ignores, and the (sometimes) unnecessary things that they don't. Make no mistake, CCP has also done alot of wonderfull things for EVE, but sometimes I think they loose sight of "The BIG Picture". "The BIG Picture" to me is more carefully listening to the player base, to more carefully tune and prioritize the development and expansion of EVE towards the wishes of the player base.
CCP in their first year or two did a great job at this in my opinion, but the last few years they've "withdrawn" somewhat from the player base, and as such no longer have the "feel" they used to have, with regards to the wishes of the greater player base. It's my sincere hope that the CSM, if nothing else, will be a first step on the path to rectify this.
It's my hope that I can help in this process, and I believe that I possess both the necessary experience with EVE and the necessary drive to make it happen. I will not work for the interest of special groups in EVE (alliances or otherwise), my focus is solely on "The BIG Picture". However if making some change to EVE, or expanding on EVE, to further EVE in general, happens to coincide with special group interests, then great!
The things, brought up by the player base, that I will be most on the outlook for to bring to CCP, will be
- Ways to either remove tedious repetitive tasks, or somehow enhance them to become non tedious and perhaps even interesting (I believe this is one of the greatest challenges, for any game)
- Ways to expand the existing game, and by that I mean add new functionality to the existing gameplay, and not necessarily endlessly adding new stuff, for the sake of adding new stuff. The EVE API would be a good example, as would factional warfare (to give a couple of examples of this)
- Getting more exact descriptions/definitions of procedures within CCP (related to the game). This can be anything really. But some things are, perhaps deliberatly or by negligence, unclear to the general populace. A few examples could be
- What is the process of introducing a new feature to EVE
- What is the process of petition escalation
- What is the process of prioritizing which things get fixed and which don't, and how can we influence that
I hope the above items gives you an idea what I mean by this.
- Last but not least : The stuff that really really needs to be fixed, because it's outright broken.
The above list is of course not exhaustive, but hopefully gives you an idea where my main focus lies. Please keep in mind that CCP is not required to actually do any of the things above, but also that they are required to give a damn good reason for why not, if that should be the case.
I for one won't accept a willy-nilly answer. It better be a good and well argumented reason.

I think my movie sums it up quite well and only takes three minutes of your time. I think that alone sets me apart from a lot of other candidates
Besides that, I'm a game designer and actually got some hands-on experience with running an MMO as I've been admin of an Ultima Online freeserver and programmed my own ruleset for it. I know how drasticly changes in the ruleset can impact the player experience, for better and for worse. I plan on using my experience to help making Eve a better game for all types of players, and to encourage those that often remain silent, the solo player and small corporations in this case, to speak up for their interests. |

Second i did all that can be done in EVE and as i love this game and want to to evolve in the way ppl like it to play also in the future! Not getting killed by stupid patches etc as many other MMo's!
I won't let EVE down! That i stand for! |

I am a fair minded and strong willed person with the desire to listen and take player issues forward to discussion with the team. Even though this stage of the game is very competitive, I have clearly stated my objectives, answered questions openly and remained true to my ethos. If that is what you want from a candidate, then that is why you should vote for me.
