You ransom ship, ship warps off. 5 minutes later... Different belt, same ship is caught, you ransom ship? What's your opinion, how long would you ignore the guy? |

If he stays in the system and keeps hunting npc's after you ransomed him, then it's his fault and you can destroy his ship.

Personally I'd say until the Agression Timer expires, 15 minutes is plenty long enough to repair, gather your belongings, and get out of harms way. The ransomee can check how much time he has left that way as well.
Its all down to ransomer preference though. |

Depends on your agreement.
If you have told him explicitly that he's safe for X amount of time, then that is the deal. Otherwise it is for him to be able to warp off, and then he's free game again. |

When I would ransom I'd give them a 24hr free pass. They never bothered to come back during that 24hr period, but I almost always got a ransom when I would ask for one so it seemed to work. |

Depends on the individual as this thread is telling you. Personaly i would give someone an agreed amount of time depending on the situation. for example, if i catch a freighter and they pay a large ransom, I would probably escort them out of low sec. I know other pilots that would wait for them to jump to the next system and then start a new ransom for that system. I cant say i really agree with that, but like I said, its really down to the individual and for the victim to ask how long they are safe for. |

The United Has a rule that a Ransom is a 1 time deal allowing you to get your ship/pod away.
If we catch you again we will kill or ransom you again
We always tell the victim to warp away and not to approach gate ect |

i normally give a 15mins grace, until aggression is out.
We ransomed a Dreadnaught this way, 15mins to get his cap out is quite fair imho. |

Yep. We've made deals before for the completion of the mission we caught them in or for the return of some mission loot, always for an extra bit of isk though. Any other time though he as soon as he warps off he's fair game again. |

Well, first things first, there are no "rules" regarding ransoms. Even if someone pays a ransom, the only thing that is protecting you is the pirate's greed (their desire for victims who are willing to pay a ransom) or his/her(/its?) "sense of honor".
That being said, here is my take on what a ransom is "good" for. IMO, a ransom is only for "getting away". Once paid, the pirates should let the victim go and not chase them. If you ransom a victim at a gate camp, this would mean you tell your gang mates to let them get away. However, if the victim makes no attempt at running away... well, that's THEIR problem now, isn't it? |

Its been said, I'll say it again. I would probably wait out the 15 minute timer but if the moron was still in system when it was up, I'd be back. If I was feeling generous or the person was an obvious noob, I'd inform the target-to-be that a ransom was a 1 time deal and was only good for the current engagement.
You can, of course, arrange a ransom for a longer period of time. If you wanted to, you could inform the target you caught in his mission that for an extra fee, you'd let him go back and finish it. If he was mining, you could sell him a week's mining pass for you space. Racketeering is a viable profession if you can swing it.
But yeah, it really depends on the ransomer. If you're the one caught, it's best to ask. If you're doing the catching, it doesn't hurt to make clear the terms. E-honour and such... |

Edited by: Cruthensis on 05/05/2008 11:23:50 This guy ^^^ ain't too clever. You could try looking at this from your victim's perspective.
I was ransomed in a 0.4 by Pay Now. They ransomed, I paid up, and they said "Yeah, finish your mission, no worries." They stuck to their word and - guess what - I was there again the day after, to be found and ransomed again (was a little more careful though! ).
As pirates you make your own rules, but if your objective is to cash-in by 'owning' a particular system or constellation, then those rules can have very real economic effects.
If you ransom someone and then either wreck whatever they came there to do (by forcing them to leave 'your' space), or worse, catch them again within minutes then the effect is obvious. The pilot will either not come to your system, or will fly cheap crap that's not worth ransoming.
The logic may go: "Those guys in [lo sec system x] will wreck this delivery/mission/exploration. I don't think I'll bother going there again." This is the kind of situation that leads to whining pirates complaining of a lack of targets in lo-sec. You're over-fishing the pond.
If the ransom they pay doesn't wreck their whole visit to the system, they'll be back, to be ransomed again. You might even be able to negotiate a weekly pass if your claim on the system is credible - and that's just ISK in the bank. |

Depends on the person and my mood.
If the guy was nice and I didn't lose a ship yet that day, I may just not engage him again for a week.
If he was a complete ****, I may purposefully follow him around until I can catch him again.
However the bare minimum a ransom will buy you is a warp out.

Usually 15min. But if he starts to mine/rat again I feel the invitation to ransom him again.
I hated going to weddings. All the grandmas would poke me saying "You're next". They stopped that when I started doing it to them at funerals. |
