Edited by: Klaitu BenJohhn on 08/05/2008 08:57:42 Well, an Exit poll is called an exit poll because the voters are polled as they exit the voting facility.
Some poor joey gets to sit there and ask random people who they voted for. Exit polls are statistically accurate, but have been traditionally inaccurate in reality.
I don't think there is any harm in asking people privately who they voted for and then posting an aggregated result, though that usually happens after the polls have closed.
Personally, I believe that announcing the data beforehadn would have little impact on the actual results. If we're talking voter influence, then just the post count on each candidate's thread is enough to determine who has the most influence.

I believe these unwholesome vote-influence conglomerates are known as 'political parties'.
there are no parties. We are not voting a goverment but a council.
but there are lobbies, and theyre the evil in democracies - because lobbies do NOT represent the citizen usually.
lobbies got that monkey into the us-senate, and killed the gi's in iraq weapons need to be sold to someone, right?
lobbies also killed alaska, now there is oil industry where once nature was left alone
your lobby will vote a goon into CSM, not the average player. I can assure you that.

Originally by: zoolkhan I Admit, _my_ experiences come from a country in europe. And i would not dare to suggest the world does it like we do. I would not even know how my european neigbour country is doing it.
Maybe you should move a little more to the south then. Because in my particular European country, a small one by the name of the Netherlands, polls are held even if there aren't any elections coming up. They just intensify in an election period. Of course, these polls aren't -exit- polls. The idea of an -exit- poll is to ask people what they voted after they have cast their vote, which is what the OP seems to want to do.
Polling and publicizing polls are an important part of many (if not most) modern day democracies, as they allow more of an insight into the current mood of the general populace. Even if you consider that people could be lying, polls could be wrong, etc. the polls still reflect an important part of political reality. Trying to outlaw them is pointless and pointing out that they're probably wrong is just as much a political statement as publishing them in the first place...
For your information: Germany, France, Belgium and the UK all have plenty of polls going on from time to time, so I'm guessing it's your country in particular that tries to keep it's people quiet or that it just has crappy media...
Anyway, I think your suggestion that steejans nix was making a US-centric comment might be off the mark, even if nix -is- actually a US citizen.
Greetings, Grismar.

That's a lot of stuff there Grismar, but as you can see the guy who you're flaming was talking of exit polls specifically, not opinion polls in general.
May I suggest the following article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exit_poll
especially the problems / criticism associated with certain situations when results of exit polls were published before the vote closed. Valid points, all in all.
I think this is the point that was made, no one here is against opinion polls in general, they are a nice statistical(ish) tool; although in my opinion it's hard to implement in Eve (as in, selecting a representative population sample). That would imply selecting the groups of people to interview, weight them depending on their percentage of the actual voting population, or something of that sort; than conduct the interviews. A poll on the forum is distorted already because it is restricted to the part of the population that actually reads these forums occasionally, while I know people that just checked on the candidates and casted their vote but aren't regular forum readers. Having this in mind, without an actual sampling process the margin of error will be probably high and undefinable. Still, the results can be interesting, so I wish best of luck to the poll starter.

Edited by: Forkrul on 11/05/2008 05:51:21 Edited by: Forkrul on 11/05/2008 05:50:59 I voted Jade Constantine for a number of reasons. The primary one is that she is a role-player and well known. She is therefore more likely than the other role-play candidates to do as she writes. Now why a role-player, some may ask? Well, while many things could be included to make role-players more complacent with an MMO, Jade will possibly urge the introduction of attributes to the game that may make it feel more immersive overall. She seems on the right pillar of what is truly needed in order to improve EVE Online.
I myself have technically quit playing EVE Online even though I keep my account active to train skills with the notion that I may come back. As a 0.0 solo-ist, the number one thing I am looking for is survivability, which would be perfectly okay if she somehow got the developers to remove all of this maximum speed upon undock crap.
But back to the Immersive aspect. Immersion is what keeps new players in, old players going and everyone intrigued. I recognize that Jade Constantine will keep attention to issues such as 0.0 warfare, low-sec quality gameplay and balance for both Pirates and Carebears as well as the wellfare of true high-sec carebears. Then there is me. All I want to do is just fkn play in 0.0 with the locals who I made friends with and not have to undock at full speed. Jade, please listen to this. I am voting for you because of your role-play background, but I hope you can push on issues that keep soloists balanced with corporations/groups.
Aside from all of this, if you actually read what she typed, it's quite impressive. She knows she can't promise everything, but simply do her best to get the developers to realize what needs to be done to keep EVE going. She seems to knows that the current state of Cynojammers and Capital warefare is heavily unbalanced. I don't know much about this, but I reckon that it is unbalanced toward the defender, but that she recognizes that defenders still 'ought to have the upper hand in almost any situation. Defenders should only lose out of a combination of superior attributes, not just one spearheading the enemy into their space.
Anyways, that is why I voted for Jade. As a role player, and a well known one, she seems to want to press issues which I think need pressing and will be held to it with her reputation.

Inconclusive, not enough responses to give an acurate prediction.
People just don't care about an eve election exit poll.
