With respect to the drone-specialized nature of most Gallente ships, does it make sense to fill ALL high slots with guns?
I assume you'd want to leave as much room and power available to field the best tank possible. Nos is one thing, but I'm thinking in terms of PvE.

Its worth considering a Drone Control Unit if you've good stills and room - Range is always good :)

Depends on the ship. The thing is that while most gallente ships have a strong drone-bay they're also have a strong bonus to guns.
For example neither the Thorax, Brutix, Taranis or Megathron should ever sacrifice a gun slot for anything else (downgrading your guns to the appropriate Electron blasters is as far as you can go).
Other ships like the Ishtar, Dominix, Vexor, Myrmidon can easily sacrifice a few turret slots for utility items. Same thing goes for specialty ships like the Arazu, Celestis, Helios etc. ______________________________________________ -You can never earn my respect, only lose it. I usually fit as many guns as I can, unless it is a specialized drone ship. For example, on my Navy Megathron, I fit 7x 350mm rails and 1x Drone Link Augmentor. On my Dominix, I use 4x 350mm rails and 2x Drone Link Augmentors. ------------

Megathron...drone link augmentor?
I hope you're not using that for PvP, because sending heavy drones further than 10km away from your ship is just asking for someone to pop them, and 70km is sheer madness. With the Dominix I can understand it, it can effectively use Sentries. But not a megathron (a DPS battleship perfectly designed for highly mobile and close range battleship slugfests). ______________________________________________ -You can never earn my respect, only lose it. Edited by: Vymorna Grom on 11/05/2008 01:22:29 Guess I should have been more specific re the *type* of Gallente ship - i.e., gunboat vs. droneboat.
So I mean Vexor, Ishtar, Dominix, Myrm, etc.
Thanks for the replies, btw.

If you've got the grid/cpu and your cap won't die then grab a few guns. They help push the mission over faster and generally the Myrm and Domi can tank fine without nos or such.

Edited by: z0de on 11/05/2008 02:53:47 I think your asking the wrong question.
Do you find yourself being limited by how far your drones go? If yes you need drone link or speed mod.
Are your drones missing alot? Consider an omnidirectional tracker.
Are your drones to slow for you? Add a drone navigation unit or use faster drones.
Back when I did missions(only got to level3's) I found that all the above was unnecessary as you could warp right in the middle of everything with a massive tank (vexor, myrm, domi) and just sit there while your drones cleaned up.

You have some good points, but most of the mods you listed above are not highslot items.
When I first started running level 4 missions I had only one gun on my Dominix, and that was just a little light railgun to get aggro. As I got a better tank and better cap skills (and better gunnery skills too) I started to put some guns on it. I'm currently only able to fit three large rails because of powergrid issues, but once I train AWU up a few levels I can do 4 easily.
Does it add a lot of DPS? Not really, but it does help. Depending on how good your gunnery skills are you can have your drones take out one target while you work on another.

Drone Control Units don't add range and can only be fitted to carriers and motherships.

If you put drones and guns on the same target it goes even faster as the target npc gets less rep cycles in.

The reason I fit the Drone Link Augmentor on my gunboat is so that my Hammerhead IIs can work on the same target as my railguns. For the Caldari Navy Temuras, and some of the other NPC battleships that orbit at 50km+, the extra DPS from the drones really speeds up the mission. ------------

That's why I trained ewar drone interfacing. Level 3 is +9 km range, and 54 km reaches every mission/belt rat there is.
On the guns thing, there's 5 350mm rails on my Domi. But then, my cap and tank skills are maxed, and I've got AWU 4, so ymmv on that fit. Combine with sentries, and it's a serious pile of insta-hit dps.
