I apologize for the redundancy for you avid forum Q&A people, but I've read the scan guides and couldn't find a definitive mention of whether or not you can switch ships into a pvp ship after scanning a ship out or you'd have to use the scan ship to warp a gang there because you can't change ships.
Thanks.

Once you reach the proper location, make a bookmark. Then switch ships and go back to your bookmark.

I realize that's an option, but is that the only option?
If I were scanning a hostile ship would they really stick around for me to return?

Edited by: Tzar''rim on 12/05/2008 09:03:09 there's no 100% guarantee in EVE, ever (apart from the losing ships part :P) It's the price you pay for soloing, if you'd have people in your fleet it'd be easier.
You can always put a probe launcher on your normal ship if you want.

Edited by: Too Bright on 12/05/2008 09:08:29 Thanks for the responses, but let me rephrase:
When I have a solid location for a SS with a ship, will I lose that location by docking and switching ships without warping there to create a bookmark?
This thread is entirely in the hopes of scanning and pwning solo.

yes you will probably loose the point - but do your scanning in a so-ops ship - you can cloak and they'll never see you .. -- BIG Lottery, BIG Deal, InEve 5th Anniversary Lottery

No idea, never had that problem. If you want to be sure test it (and post the results :P)
drop a probe, run it, see if you get targets, dock up, switch ships and undock. Check the result list.

Edited by: Strak Yogorn on 12/05/2008 12:02:42 just do your scanning in a cloaker, warp, make a bm, switch ship, profit ..
you prob lose your link to the probes, when you make a session change, and the scan results too i would think.

yes, you loose your results after docking, not sure how changing ships in space works with the results though as i've never tested that. -sig-

You will lose the scan result and also lose the probe. Train to fly a covert ops, is my advice.

Or a Force Recon.

Depending on what you're doing and whether you're using recon probes or scan probes, taking an extra 30 seconds or so to scan can be an acceptable tradeoff for the advantages you get from the Force Recon, which can recce the area cloaked, but will also be able to take on and destroy most targets from cruisers down (and usually any young players in BCs or even battleships).
But as I say, it depends; if you're scanning out a bunch of mission runners, or you know that the chances of your scan succeeding are slim, the scanning is the most important bit so it makes sense to use a ship with bonuses for it. If a wartarget in a cruiser warps out to a safespot that you can get within an AU of, you're highly likely to get it on the first hit, so reserving the ability to pounce immediately by scanning with a Force Recon is probably the better option.

I've read most of the responses, and believe everybody has provided the right answer, but I found them to be a little confusing.
1.) Make sure that you have a bookmarked safespot, and place your probing ship and your PvP ship there. (No brainer - by ejecting and pod-warping to pick the new one up.) 2.) Get in your probing ship, warp to your (already bookmarked) safespot, and drop a probe. Your probe should give you hits, viewable on the Solar System Map. 3.) Select your target, one not close to a gate or celestial object, and warp to it. 4.) Select some object in space, usually a jetcan or a wreck, and make a bookmark of it. 5.) Warp back to your original safespot, eject from the prober, and hop into your PvP ship. 6.) Warp to your new bookmark, and attack your target.
Here's one very important thing to note: You have two ships in space, which are now susceptible to the same scanning you're doing, except by someone else. There is a chance (slim, of course) that someone else scanning in the system will see your ship on their scanner and warp to it.
If they have the appropriate skills, an alt available, or a buddy with the skills, they will likely steal your ship if it's better than theirs. Or, they'll board it, and then self-destruct it.
I've heard of both methods - the latter of which was very, very funny.

Yup, I've used that on several occasions. One to quickly switch ships (mostly after the target agressed) or to lure them into safety.. "I see his rifter on scan so my Rokh is safe", sadly for him I had parked the rifter in his scanning range and was warping in with my Cane
