Let us imagine an enterprising individual stumbled across a medium control tower, offline and anchored with 360mil worth of assets.
He'd be correct in thinking to make off with those Labs for much profit and glee in his heart, he'd have to take out the tower, yes?
Such an individual would be S.O.L if all he had was a Raven, as it'd take a full day of blasting to get those shields down and they'd go and reset after DT, right?
I'm figuring I know the answer to this, but just want to check EFT isn't wrong and there isn't some OMGPWN bonus to DPS when attacking a POS.

AFAIK shields shouldn't reset at DT... but I'm afraid they do.

This may have changed, but I was under the impression that an offline tower has no shields?
My experience of attacking POSes is sadly limited to ones that are online, however a medium POS at 100% shield can be taken down by a couple of battleships given a fair number of hours of pounding. The shields regenerate during downtime but are not reset, except when effected by certain bugs.
I can put you in touch with some people that can supply additional firepower should you need it, but they would want a cut.

Offlining only means there's no bubble, the tower itself is still shielded, sadly.
Depends how much of a cut we're talking.

If you're interested in negotiating on price, I can ask a small merc outfit I know to get in touch with you... although they tend to prefer targets that shoot back.

Why do you even bother asking? Tons of offline towers everywhere. Just warp around and you will find them. War dec then go kill them. Its easy.
I'd use amarr ships since they don't run out of ammo. Just leave the lasers on at optimal then leave for work and when you get back you should have made a good dent Click here for my High Security POS Service

A tower with an online gun is easy, just shoot it in an Ibis and your death mail tells you who the tower belongs to. Is there a show info button somewhere which identifies a towers owner? |

It's the labs that are worth the money. Explode the tower, scoop labs, ????? (sell), profit.

You can do a show info on the tower to find the owner.

What I would do is simply shoot the labs. As you said, the tower is offline so no forcefield. This allows you to target the guns, labs, silo's, ...
When you pop a lab/silo, there is a chance some stuff survives and you can scoop it.
If you manage to pop the tower somehow, all silo's and labs can be unanchored BUT... anything that is in them will be destroyed.
If you're alone and the tower is offline (no forcefield), shoot the stuff around it and see if it drops good stuff. Can earn ya a good amount of money and goes fast.

Shields don't reset overnight they just recharge. Anyways we did end up taking it down with my abbaddon providing a large portion of the afk dps and two ravens a drake and a brutix providing extra dps (brutix and a raven when ever I alt tabbed and reloaded them.) Took far less time than most people would think (was told would take 10-15 hours) and probably 8 hours of semi afk play.

Be careful that the guns don't shoot you even though the tower is offline, we just popped a POS (this one was online) and the guns kept shooting after the control tower blew up. Then we unanchored the guns, they kept shooting whilst unanchoring, then once they were unanchored they still shot. Only when they were scooped (obviously) did they stop. --

Ya, go AFK in space while at war, after providing the other corp with an Evemail specifying your location: sounds like a great idea to me.
Just make sure that the only corp member is on an inactive account before you do it.

If the corp that owns the tower has an office in a station in the system, they'll almost certainly be keeping all their BPOs there rather than leaving them in a lab. If so, you're better off stealing the labs. My research services Spreadsheets: Top speed calculation - Halo Implant stats |

True Kazuo, but shooting a tower by yourself is not the most interesting thing to do.
If you're with a group that can dish a lot of damage, of course, go for the tower and collect the labs.

Or you could try and find a tower with labs in a system with no stations. Then it might be worth just popping the labs, but the owners may well have moved the BPO's when the tower went offline.

Edited by: Interscene on 18/06/2008 10:20:04 I'd like to confirm, they do recharge, but they don't reset to full - that'd be tedious for sieges.
Half the point is to go over to your POS and carrier rep the shields up again when no-one is looking to make it a little harder.
As for solo'ing offline towers. Just do it, the only danger is people stopping you since it takes ages.
http://www.iron-alliance.com/kb/kill.php?k_id=71068 This is a guy who killed an ONLINE tower. Took him 26 hours or so and a couple of million rounds of ammo. And yes, there is a DPS advantage to using the correct ammo type to it's racial resitances. Just remember that if it's not a fail corp, they'll want to do something about receiving "Tower under attack" messages for two days.

How could he possibly have got his guns to keep firing after reloading for so long unless he was using a macro, and how on earth did he have space for so much ammo?

Hauler Alts for the win, he had an industrial full of ammo logged off in the system with him and he reloaded. When he used up all the ammo in the hauler, it went back to the station system to get more.
He just had a lot of patience, a good book - and most importantly, a desire for so many killboard points he jumped two levels of promotion~

So let me get this straight. I'll need to wardec the corp to shoot the tower without concord stepping in?
What if im in a NPC corp, is attacking a highsec offline tower not an option?
I'd like to get the labs for free

You can't wardec when in a npc corp so no, you can't shoot the tower without concord saying hello.
If you want the labs for free, maybe you could ask the pos owner to give them to you for free?

So wardecing the corp is the only way to make this happen.

LOL, well im fairly confident that thats not going to happen.
Maybe I can find someone that needs a mack pilot to help keep their lab operational that would allow me to use thier ME, PE and coping slots, without stealing my BPOs. What are the chances of that. |
