I've jst started mininig with a retreiver. Ive kitted it out with 2 strip miners & 2 t/2 expanded cargo holds. Ive got a capacity of 3250 m3
Can i expand further for a bigger capacity?
As i'm mining solo im not too sure about the sbject of leaving cans in space ( heard alot about jet canning)
Also for canning do i need a ship like an "iteron" to collect the cans to take back to dock?
And finally what exactly is can flipping?
thanks

Unfortunately the only way you'll get it's hold bigger is with cargo rigs, but at 50+mil a pop, not worth it.
If you're going to jetcan you'll want a hauler, like an iteron (1-5, 1 having the smallest cargo capacity and 5 having the largest). If I may suggest, if you are planning on jetcanning, drop one of your expanders and put in a mining laser upgrade to increase your yield-per-cycle.
Can flipping is when a pilot jets his own can next to yours and empties the contents of your can into his. This is to bait the miner to flip it back by retaking his ore. This results in a criminal flag and the flipper will shoot you.
Hope that helps.

To clarify that a bit : He steals from you and he is a criminal (but Concord won't come) You tak your stuff back, now you are "stealing" from him (Concord still won't come) and he can shoot you at will as now you are a criminal.
Summary : Unless you are flying a heavily gunned thief-bait mining ship, if someone steals from you let them take have it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Legion of Shadow is looking for recruits. |

Jetcan mining is this: mine a cycle, jettison it. This creates a 27000m3 "can" in space (which lasts 1-2 hours, so don't leave it out too long). Continue dragging ore from your cargo into this jetcan until you have a hauler-load. Then dock up, switch ships, and fly back to your can.
Obviously there is potential for thieves to take your ore. An effective counter for this is to mine in an out-of-the-way system that hardly anybody passes through, i.e. don't do this in the major hub systems or anywhere near Caldari space. A better counter is to mine in a fleet with some defensive ships, some haulers to snatch up the ore as quick as you can jettison it, and dedicated miners who don't have to waste time docking and switching ships.
The best hauler is the Iteron Mk V, which only takes a month to train (Gallente Industrial V) and a few dozen million ISK worth of cargo rigs to make it carry insane amounts of cargo. If you're lazy like me, just train Amarr Industrial I and get a Bestower. It takes less than an hour to train, and can carry 17000m3 of ore unrigged.

Most of your other questions are answered above ...

This is just a time efficiency since an industrial ship holds more cargo, it requires less trips to take the ore to a refinery(station), so you spend more time sucking ore out of the roid.
Usually people team-up with someone to do this. Be careful not to get scammed by someone who takes the ore, and doesn't give it to you in station.
