Don't accept any contracts for courrier missions from a guy named "Baronsold"
He puts up courrier mission contracts with high collateral. They seem safe, with all high sec. However, the one 0.5 system you stop in, he has his buddies there waiting for u. they hunt u down and destroy u no matter the cost. this is profitable to them because then they get to keep the collateral you paid.
So dont fall for Baronsold's scam. Do no business with that guy. He is a scam.

Get a big group of friends, accept his mission and go there in an empty hauler (or make a quick courier conract to get a package, incase they scan u) then wtfpwn him and his friends when they attack u, go back to the package, bring it to target station and presto. _______________________________________________________ CCP, let us pay the online shop with Direct Debit!!!

Expect to get scammed doing player courier scams. I mean missions. Thats all most of them are. Its been like that dinse day one for me and I been playing for about 4 years. One of the things you can do to try and keep yourself from being scammed is to check both the starting system and the finishing system on the map to make sure they are there. Don't accept any freeform contracts. make sure the time limit being set (if any) is a realistic time. If you fail to meet the requirements set in the mission. You will lose. Also make sure that no one is setting you up by having plans to jump you anywhere along your route. Just because you are in empire dont mean squat. suicide gankers will get you if you are juciey enough. Also invest in a cloak2 they have saved my bacon several times. When you jump into a sys. Do not use you a/p. Instead. click anywhere on the screen so you can get your ship to move. Then immediatly activate your cloak. so that it activates as soon as you start to lose the one that the gate gives you Which only lasts for about 30 seconds. After that you can pretty much stay out of harms way. by immedatly changing directions after you are cloaked. If the item being transported is small enough use a force recon cruiser to move it. They can warp while cloaked plus (if you go to null sec (00) you can jump without a gate or the help of another ship by using the co op jumpdrive generator).

Yes, good to know.
I thought most player courier contracts were scams. I don't trust anyone in this game, except for maybe my alt and even he can be dodgy sometimes.

Edited by: Marlenus on 19/05/2008 21:10:44 Nah, I do a lot of region-wide market buy orders, and I set up a lot of courier contracts to get piles of random goods delivered from distant lowsec to my nice comfy high-sec hangar.
The amazing thing is that if you set the collateral to something reasonable and pay a decent amount for delivery, people actually snap these up. It's astonishing to me, but my stuff always gets delivered at very reasonable rates.
So, people are using these for their intended purpose, and people are (they must be!) accepting these contracts and carrying them out. ------------------ Ironfleet.com |

You sir, are a cynic.
Check my contract history to see that I have set lots of courier missions, and had most of them delivered sucessfully.
I may be a pirate, but courier missions are still a very useful tool to get stuff moved from one place to another, and nearly all of them get accepted and completed.

Also, to OP thats a really clever twist on suicide ganking, I'll keep that in mind if i ever get bored.

indeed they do. i use courier contracts all the time to get stuff in empire moved. reasonable collaterals and good payment ensures fast and reliable delivery. if the stuff is more expensive i jsut put it in a general freight can and ensure its transported in a more 'safe' way (hence freighter).
to OP: if the deal sounds too got - it might be a scam. also it might be not wise to transport a valuable carge (in terms of collateral) in a fragile ship.

Oh god, tinfoil-hat-time!
1. I killed you, it wasn't a scam you just happened to be in the right place at the right time. 2. Why carry more than 1bn of rigs in a T1 hauler? 3. As you clearly weren't afk, why were you auto-piloting? 4. The fact that they all died makes me sad

Edited by: Leora Nomen on 19/05/2008 21:41:53 When you pick up a courier contract note how long you're given to do it. If the contract is set just for one day more chances that it is a scam like you're describing where they gank you along the way. If the contract is set for several days less chances that they will be camping the route all this time. If contract is set to one day you can convo the person who set it up and explain to him how you're afraid of scams and ask this person to reset it to several days and put it in private to you. If they agree less chances of it being a scam. Checking the person's previous contract history also help. He will probably have a bunch of failed contracts if he sets them up not on an alt but on his main.

I set up courier contracts sometimes to move stuff from an agent to a new one or just to help me clean up my assets window every now and then and usually, they are accepted and completed withing 2-5 days.

It's not right because real stealing is not right. That isk I used as collateral was isk I paid for using the legal time-code selling market that CCP sponsers and supports. So either Baronsold stole real money from me or CCP did. Either way, if you have any morals, you would see it's not right. Flawed game mechanics cost me real money.
At this point it doesn't matter what any of you think though. I've taken this to a higher level than just a forum alert. I've already filed a formal complaint with IC3 and NW3C. As well as reporting it to my commanding officer in my chain of command. (i'm in the military).
Either way, I am not letting anyone steal real money from me. No different than if a thief breaks into my house and steals something.

Sorry for the newb questions but I'm a bit new here :
1.) How is placing the items in a general freight can more 'safe'? 2.) I thought when you put items in containers and made them into a courrier contract it stripped the items out of the container of something like that. I thought I read that somewhere, could be dated info I suppose.
Thank you for your replies

1. If its too good to be true it ussually is. 2. If the collateral is obsurdly high, its a scam. 3. If they are offering to pay you 10 million to move a 5 m3 item with a collateral of 50 million you can bet your ass they want to kill you.

Not when the situation is worded ever so carefully, by stating basic facts on the situation. They don't view it any different than if someone credit card scammed you on the internet. To put it in your language: "Sir, this company in Europe stole $200.00 from me." Either way, I gave him all of CCP's contact information and he told me he would take care of it personally, and also contact the legal branch here on base. Either way, CCP can expect some phone calls from several United States military officers; and perhaps even some people from IC3, if they accept my case as well.
