Hello,
I am planining to buy a new computer, and am considering going 64 bit vista.
Eve is ofc one of the most important appliacations for me :) so is Eve ok with Vista 64 bit in general?I play often with 2 accounts at same time. It will be a rather powerful comp, 3ghz core2, 4 gig memory, 8800 class card.
I will be grateful for advises/expereiences ...

I use this with no problems.
As long as your hardware is all compatible - i.e. has 64bit drivers floating around, Eve will run. I can't say I really noticed any improvement over 32-bit XP really, but, it runs fine, which was your question ================

Edited by: martinand on 22/05/2008 17:38:56 ive had some trouble.. but i suppose there could be a million reasons for it... and it doesnt happen very often or bother me that much... anyway:
on rare occasion vista freezes up when eve is running... and almost always when i have windows media player running in the background (i never learn and still do it).. probably a graphics card/driver issue... Oh, and i mostly have two clients running.
other than that.. runs fine.. and like said above..

I run on Vista 64bit with 4 GB RAM, Wolfsdale 3.0 Core 2, dual 9600GTs. Absolutely no problem. I find that if I have more than three accounts running, I do run into lag in each client instance, but it's still playable. I am running each client at 1680x1050 windowed, across 2, 24" monitors.
If you are running Vista, you should be running 64bit if you have 4GB memory. It's quite a difference over 32bit Vista. Also get as many 64bit specific programs as you can...

It'll run fine. Altho mine is a Q6600, i also have x64 Vista and a 8800GT, there will be a bit of lag if you run two clients with the new graphics, however that'll happen to almost any computer out there :)

You must have a 64 bit OS to address any more than 3.2GB of memory anyway.

This seems to pop up a lot. Maybe we should have a sticky that states -

Almost.
32 bits is enough to address 4GB of memory. Windows reserves some of that for accelerating the PCI bus, however. My XP 32-bit Professional system reserves 768MB of address space for that purpose (leaving me with 3.25GB of addressable physical memory), whereas my friend's PC, which is running XP 32-bit Home, reserves 512MB of address space (leaving him with 3.5GB of addressable physical memory).
So yes, certainly get a 64-bit operating system if you're going to put 4GB of memory in there. I'm going to be upgrading to Vista 64 just as soon as UltraMon's supplementary taskbars correctly use the Aero Glass appearance.
