Now I can probably say that this has been suggested before, and probably many a whine about it too.
But I sit here looking for Hardwirings that can help over a wide ranging gallente ships that I fly. I'm thinking Armor HP/Repair, Cap Recharge/HP, Hull HP, etc.
Now every time I come to fit out a clone with Hardwirings, I hit problems of some slots being a total waste to certain races/ships.
Would CCP ever consider allowing you to pick 5 of any implant, and plug them in. In other words removing the slot idea.
Of course restrictions should still apply. No more than 1 of each type can be used (Armor HP once only). No using 5x ZET3000, and mixtures of ZET30/ZET300/ZET3000 are also forbidden.
Also maybe have an added bonus if you install a full set of the same type (Gnome, Gypsy,etc), just like snake/slave gets a bonus to a full set.
No doubt people see loop holes (problems) so please post them.
This will never likely ever be discussed by CCP though, so its more a theoretical discussion. |

slots are meant to prevent extreme things to happen (I.E. fitting +5% implants for everything related to a certain field), thus achieving abnormal bonuses.
still, no slots are totally useless to any race, you can still squeeze something useful from any slot.
Do not try and find the signature... that's impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth... There is no signature. |

Personally my problem with implants is that there are too many for too few slots, and that all the really cool manufacturing/researching ones (cause let's face it, what builder isn't also a researcher?) take the same two slots!
But I have to agree with the above poster in saying that there aren't completely useless slots for some races/setups, just slots that you have balance/be creative with.

You can always use jump clones, you know...
Just build and research on alternate days.

I do that actually....but it is still a major PITA to coordinate this item ending, then jumping to a new clone and have that item end etc.
Add to this the fact that certain implants really just make sense to go on the same clone, but they occupy the same slot and it is something I hope the devs look at soon (tm)
