Well iv been playing EVE for about two mouths going on 3, And what I find quite discouraging about EVE is the amount of time it takes to learn Combat skills or (survival skills).
This is not a problem when there is proper entertainment available to amuse as In Empire. But there's not. Currently there missions mining ratting trading so on. all get very repetitive and boring with in time. These and other things make Empire a boring place with nothing really exciting and exhilarating to do.
So what else is there PVP, But there is a barrier to it for noobs/ the skill barrier preventing them from participating. Upon discovery of this barrier that requires at least 6 months of paying and skill training to over come, decide it not worth the wait the grief or the coin and leave.
So i come to this conclusion. some thing needs to be done to keep retention rates up. providing more mini games entertainment in Empire will certainly solve that problem.
And providing a noob bashing game for veteran players (Abolition) will not help.
Perhaps a different direction from PVP is needed maybe a focus on Empire and entertainment there is what is needed.

frost, making a efficient PvP cruiser after 2 months of playing is more than just possible providing you know what are you doing that is,means reading the guides, asking people, join a corp that will help you understand the game but... i do agree that some sort of additional entertainment would help like... dunno.... arenas where you could kill and get killed without losing anything? dont know |

Thats to much like wow, and ultimately I think unsatisfying.
We should reassess this after factional warfare to see how that changes the entry level, new player experience for pvp. And like was said, if done right it doesn't take vastly long to be somewhat efficient at small ship pvp. |

Also, you can serve a valuable role as a tackler/scout. I think you should be able to get into covops in under 2 months, which are quite nice. Then you can move up to stealth bombers and be fairly pvp effective. From then on pick whatever direction you like.
If you're thinking of leaving evemail me maybe I can help out/give you some tips.
They could bump up the starting skill amount to 3mil SP for your first character, but your second and third characters (on the account) would only have 1mil SPs. |

Edited by: Frost 1232 on 22/05/2008 10:36:05 I have a little over two million skill points, im trying to get blasters medium up to maximum and then theres 5 others that need doing.
But what im suggesting is a different direction from number bashing PVP, more things to do, like station city's to walk around in with there own missions. Just more things for a care bears to do. Stuff to make the EVE universe more substantial and bring it too life if you know what i mean.
And most importantly keep people a bit more entertained. |

now there is an interesting idea. that would put quite the spin on the walking in stations gimmick. |

Frost, i had same problem when o wanted to take myself into pvp. I strongly recommend you finding a good corp, that will teach you some pvp basics and give opportunity to fly together.
Now im playing about 3months and have 4m sp, i got my first kills when i was about ~2m sp and was flying in a frig. When i skilled up for cruiser i had some kills (and losses) in low secs with it (solo and in gang with corp mates). Only problem is sec status - it drops really fast if you attack everything that moves .
Its truth, about this high sp. It ****es me off, when i see all those ppl in bad fancy ships that i have no chances to shoot. But... in gang with proper mates it changes. I've been often told that i need this group of skills to fly this or that effectively, i'm just ingoring it and slowly skilling up. I dont have skills to effectively fly cruiser, but i had my kills with it, so i think its matter of luck and desire to fight ;) Btw. as i see on portrait, you r gallente, thorax and vexor are really good pvp boats, skill as fast you can for t2 tank, blasters and drones and you'll be somehow useful in gang, and not defenceless.

on my research alt i started to get max invention job etc, it would take him 40 days to get into an interceptor and use T2 MWD and T2 warp disruptor. i don't think that is too long tbh. factor in a starting char made for PvP and you could probably get it down to 20days.

Eve is a Amazing place first game i think that ever created a ENTIRE galixy in a game that just Amazing still nocks me off my perch every time i think about it. But Why stop there why not add more bring it all the life.
The thing you are probably waiting for is Ambulation (a.k.a walking in stations).
It is true that the quite rich story behind EVE does not translate into ingame events that you can explore (no epic quests across an empire). That is one of the major drawbacks of EVE. However there are plenty of things you can busy yourself with while training skills. You can try NPC goods trading or try to map a reagion (visiting all the systems in it) etc. That there is not an NPC with a ! above his head indicating he wants to talk with you does not mean there's nothing to do.
There was a thread about EVE monuments. Search for it and try to visit them (at least those in empire). --- SIG --- CSM: your support is needed ! |
