Star Fraction Presents
The First Freespace Summit
My fellow capsuleers. It has been a long year for us all. The terriotiral alliances of nullsec are quietening thier Drums of War but the inner territorial factions as picking up the tempo. War is again to engulf the inner regions and still we are forced to listen to thier rhetoric about peace and stability forged under a flag. In the shadow of this there are those of us who have thrown off the shackles of the past. We see no borders only dreams becomming reality out amoung the stars. To those who Dream I send this invitation.
On the 1st of June at 1900 NEST (New Eden Standard Time) Star Fraction will be hosting the first Freespace Summit. The summit will be held in the New Eden system and will consist of two distinct events.
1.) Freespace Symposium.
In the symposium some of the leading figures in the freespace movement will shares thier ideas and dreams with all who attend and will answer questions on thier topics. All are welcome to attend in person or if that is not possible we can provide a Holo-Similcrum for your use for the event and allow you to attend from a distance. Anyone who wishes to speak at the Symposium will be welcome to as long as thier topic fits with the event. Opposing views are more than welcome. If you wish to attend or for more information please reply to this message or send a communication to Heartstone who is organising this event. Please note Star Fraction does not accept any responsibility for your welbeing so please provide ample security for yourself if you do attend.
2.) Freespace Race.
In the spirit of Freespace the Freespace Race will consist of long course spanning the known universe visiting some of the hotspots of territorial enslavement. There will be a prize at the end for the winner in the shape of a Black Ops Battleship of the winning pilots choice. Please note due to the aggresive nature of most 0.0 alliances this course is deemed most hazarous and a high degree of risk should be expected. To take part in this event or for more information please contact Heartstone.

The Star Fraction is a group that has always impressed me with its focus. I'd like to attend, barring any events that require my presence... nearer to my soon-victim Heth.

Celestial Imperative would be most honored to have delegates attend the symposium. While it is a bit close to the end of second shift for most of us, we will do our best to attend on time.

Originally by: Che Biko What is the Freespace movement?
Well, there are a few responses to that really, depending on how complex one wants to make the definition, but in the spirit of the invitation here the Freespace movement is "those who actively seek their to defend their freedom and the freedoms of all who would want it".
There are several lines of thought on how to achieve this, one of which is implementation and propagation of the NRDS (Not Red Don't Shoot) RoE, often paired with a personal philosophy of not "respecting" borders. The latter to mean that if someone tells the freespacer that they have no right to be in a given area of space, the freespacer will not obey.
There is a saying that illustrates this: "The question is not who is going to let me, it is who is going to stop me."
When looking at the movement in the form of currently active organizations throughout our civilization, there are a few obvious examples such as the Star Fraction and Stimulus. There are however more examples that in justice have to be included even if they differ with us - for example the good fighters of the Ushra'Khan should be considered part of the broader movement, in that their concern is not to make property of space, nor economic dominance. Their struggle is one of achieving freedom for the enslaved. They have at times held space, they have at times operated in ways other than the NRDS Rules of Engagement, but these have always been means towards the end of defending freedom and destroying those that would restrict the freedom of others.
In another approach to the subject, even some piratical organizations can be considered part of the movement in that they reject the will of imperialist forces and instead opt to lead their lives independently and on their solely own ability. Obviously though, they operate under different rules in that they are, well, pirates, and not all of them could be considered part of this. It is not their piracy that includes them, it is their motivations for this lifestyle.
In the end though, possibly the simplest and clearest definition might be: The Freespace Movement is those that will not accept exclusion from a given area of space nor try to achieve the exclusion of others from a given area of space, except in attempt to destroy or remove those that would attempt exclusion.

Edited by: Nicholas Tarantine on 25/05/2008 00:01:36 What a fascinating topic for a seminar!
As a student of current political theories I would be delighted to take up your open invitation. I fear I shall abuse my recently granted indestructiability by attempting to reach the New Eden system and..... Pirate Gate Camps willing, I shall certainly attend.

A quick update for those of you interested in this event.
Timeline - Summit
1845: People attending in person meet in Imya and the communications band for the event is opened. Holo-simulacrums will go active at this point and will be accepting links. (The communications band will be announced 24 hours before the event) 1900: The convoy will move to New Eden. Please remember that Star Fraction will not be providing security so please bring your own or bring a suitable ship for Low Security space travel. Star Fraction will however have the route scouted so we will inform people any any potential dangers on the route of travel. 1915: The Summit is opened by the Cosmopolite who will give the opening address. The good doctor will answer questions at the end of his speech. At the end of The Cosmopolite's speech he officially starts the Freespace Race. 1930: Various talkers give their views on Freespace and each session is followed by a questions and answers session. 2045: Jade Constantine closes with a short (for her) closing address and announces the winner of the Freespace Race.
Due to the nature of the event the timings may be a bit off of the advertised.
The aim of the summit is to foster closer relationships between Freespace entities and increase understanding of the movement.
All are welcome to attend Freespace or not.
Freespace Race - Details
All competitors in the race are to be in New Eden at 19:15. The Freespace Race will start with the Cosmopolites say so after his opening address is finished. The competitors will travel between specified systems in an order of their choosing. Any ship type is allowed apart from jump capable ships Travel must be via. Stargates. The specific details of the system will be revealed 24 hours before the event publicly. Combat between competitors is allowed except in the New Eden system itself. Each participant will be required to go to each checkpoint system and make a comment in the local communications network to allow our observers to easily identify that they have been there. The grand prize for this event will be a Black Ops Battleship of the winners choice. The runner up will receive a Polycarboned Interceptor of their choice.
Any Question about either the Summit or the Race please contact Heartstone.

I will be a pleasure to see you racing Ms. Nihil. I would however point out that a corporation isn't limited to one entry so if any of the other members of your corp wish to take part there is nothing to stop them.

NEW EDEN // GENESIS. THE SUMMIT PROCEEDS UNDER THE WATCHFUL EYE OF THE FREECAPTAINS SHOWN: FREECAPTAIN KAREAS IN THE UNMISTAKABLE THORAX HULL.
A success by any measure.
Many thanks to Heartstone for all his work in organising such an interesting summit. Thanks also to each of the guest speakers; I didn't expect to hear from such a broad range of people. The tales of your experiences and the explanations of your ideas made for some fascinating listening. I've come away from today's event with much to think about and reflect on.
Daring to dream for five long yearsąthatĘs proof enough for me.
Kai grins.
Congratulations on the victory.

Aye, it was a good day. And thankfully the summit were not disturbed by thugs. For once a peaceful and stimulating meeting without the need to defend our right to be present in space. Thanks to all the speakers for their enlightening words. And I must say, the sight of the Summit were well-chosen. I had never been to New Eden myself but what a beautiful place. Even when bend over my navigation and scanning equipment it was hard not to notice the spectacular light of New Eden.

Out of curiosity, will there be recurring freespace summits? I have seen a noticeable increase in pilots dropping their yokes and joining the movement. It would be beneficial to all, I belive, if these discussions were to continue. |

Mr. Airaken I dearly hope that the growing numbers of Freespace organisations can learn to work together closer or at least share thier ideas in future and to that end I am hopeful that there will be more Summits as well as a host of other less formal meetings between all of us. I was thinking of having another summit in a couple of months personally but this does not preclude anyone else from organising another meeting of minds in the meantime. If you did decide to organise something and needed any assistance in any way just let me know.
