Edited by: YoHoHoHo on 24/05/2008 08:16:20 I realise this is not a sale as such but it will get more "air time" in this forum than any other.
This is my first attempt at organising a treasure hunt. It will start 24th of may (TODAY) at 16:00 eve time. The prize will be a Brutix BPO (unresearched)
I can hear all the cynics and sceptics saying "this is a scam" or "there will be a gank squad waiting". Well that would be your loss as there is no hostile intentions at all. If you don't like the sound of it then just don't take part.
The point is to find out if this would be a viable scheme for players who want a bit more from the game than just mining, grinding or fighting. If it is successful then in future an entry fee will be charged and the prizes would become better and more worthwhile.
THE RULES All players who are interested in taking part should be in Cistuvaert solar system by 15:55 to avoid missing the initial clue which will be given in binary by myself (part of the puzzle for you all to work out) Everyone and anyone can take part as long as they are in the "Treasure Hunter" channel. Entry fee is FREE on this occasion. I will have an alt in a shuttle at the last can to verify the winner. I will be at the second to last can in a shuttle to make sure no-one steals all the bookmarks. (just incase you think I'm there to bump you to death). Have fun.
Let your corpmates know that this is happening and get involved.
If you have any suggestions on how to make it better please post. If you are a troll and only want to be a pain in the aºº then please go a play with the billy goats gruff!

Only a few hours until the hunt starts, so make sure you get to the start line in Cistuvaert. I'm hoping for a very good turn out as there has been a lot of interest shown in game and a lot of reads on this thread.
If you have any doubts as to the legitimacy of this hunt then please just use a noob ship to take part, that way you have absolutely nothing to lose. No entry fee, no outlay for a ship but the chance to find and own a Brutix BPO.
There are 2 very kryptic clues which can be broken by the use of the internet.
Good luck to everyone who takes part.

Edited by: JohnnyGoofy on 24/05/2008 16:53:31 I was in the treasure hunt :) it was great fun.
No one got popped and the reward was actually a brutix BPO (not that i got it :P)
I'm in next time.
*edit* Oh and the riddles where good...except that I failed miserably on the first one. When I figured it out it was too late:P

GREAT fun!! Been a long time since I enjoyed myself so much actually. Nifty little race to go through the stargates on the paths first :D And yes, to all you non-believers, there WAS a Brutix BPO in the last can! Thanks for a LOAD of fun YoHoHoHo!

Edited by: YoHoHoHo on 24/05/2008 17:39:29 Congratz to Daydreambeliever who won the Brutix Original Blueprint.
A HUGE thanks to all who took part, it was a great 45 minutes watching the frantic chat in channel and boy was I suprised when after only about 35 mins one of the participants turned up in the system where the last clue was located.
The first clue given was:-
01110101 01100101 01100100 01100001 01101101 01100001 00100000 01110000 01101100 01100001 01101110 01100101 01110100 00100000 00110110
Using a binary translator you can easily and quickly figure out that this says "Uedama planet 6"
The second clue was a message written on a can telling the players to join a chat channel where a simple riddle was posted in the motd, reading:-
A little riddle to get your mind working.
My first is in apple but not in tipple My second is in nipple but not in ripple My third is in manual but not in maul My fourth is in camber but not in cucumber My fifith is seventh but not as a number My sixth is E as simple as can be My last is the letter that comes before T
Put the letters together. The next clue is at a moon in this system.
system was Annages.
In Annages was another can telling players to join another channel
In this channel was another slightly cryptic clue:-
You are almost there just the last clue to go. So here it is.
The next can is at a moon in a "feline" system. Password to the can is treasure. Inside are bookmarks please just take one.
EXTRA CLUE! The prize can has a code set as the name. Decipher the "HEX" code to gain entry.
The system was Cat.
The last can was named :-
74 68 65 20 70 61 73 73 77 6f 72 64 20 69 73 20 22 73 74 72 61 69 67 68 74 20 66 6c 75 73 68 22
More code which translates to say "the password is "straight flush""
Daydreambeliever was the first one to work out the password to the can even though he wasn't the first one to the can. Infact I think he was the 3rd one at the can but was still able to gain access to the print before his counterparts.
It really was fun even tho I wasn't the one doing the hunting.
More treasure hunts will be happening very soon, but this was the only free hunt.
To all the cynics and sceptics I'm sorry I couldn't convince you that this might be worth your while but then we all make our choices and that choice was yours.
Hmmm What could the next prize be I wonder??

Great idea, I'm just sorry I was out all day and missed this.
Just a point for future, are you aware that the unscrupulous could use a locator agent to find your main (and the alt you used this time since their name will be known) and skip direct to the final can and steal the prize? I hope there's a way around this so you can keep this idea going.

I had thought of that and there was 2 possibilities.
1st would be to use brand new unknown alts to mind the cans on each hunt.
2nd would be to sit in a station well away from everything and not have any removable items such as bookmarks. I would wait for confirmtion by way of a correct answer to a question or riddle to verify the winner and then contract the item rather than leaving it out in space for the players to find, but then, that kind of defies the logic of a treasure hunt.
I think the first option would work best.
I'm thinking for the next hunt maybe using a Domination Web as the treasure but I would need to cover the costs associated with that hunt as my pockets are not bottomless and this free hunt kind of took a large chunk out of my own funds.
What price would you think would be a fair entry fee. Consider that this hunt only drew 20 hunters at no cost for a 243m print. That would be 12.5 million per entry, a bit steep I think. I'm thinking 2mil a pop but if the item to be hunted isn't covered by the entry fees then the hunt would be called off.
Anyway if you want to chat about this or are interested in getting involved join mailling channel "The Rat Race" and we can stop spamming the forums.

As long as I felt 80-90% of the total entry fee went towards the prize(s) i would mind paying 5-15 mill

I took part and yes it was fun, though I stuck at the second riddle, I thought its a moon in Uedama and not in another system... So checked all 30 moons there
Good idea with the channels, better than bookmarks.
